Just received a section 13 notice on my home. 23% increase in rent and given one months notice.
AIBU to think this is nothing more than pure utter greed!

In regards to you saying people shouldn't be allowed to own more than one property this is very short sighted. I'd say a high majority of private let's are owned by people with more than one property. Let's say in 1 village the landlords of 9 out of 10 rentals own other properties. So a law is brought in banning ownership of more than one property. Straight away those 9 tenants are given eviction notices and those properties are put on the market. Where are those 9 tenants going? They're fighting over the 1 property that isn't having to be sold. Which will cause the rents to go up even more. Yes it would mean house prices would reduce but realistically only slightly so it wouldn't help those 9 families that are now homeless, the main reason people can't get onto the housing ladder is the deposit - if you can't afford to save paying current rents you won't be able to when rents have increased even more due to there being no rentals available.
A few years ago a friend of mine entered a scheme that was sort of a let to buy, she rented a new housing association property which after she had lived there a certain number of years it then meant she had a stake in the property so it turned into shared ownership. I had never come across the scheme before and haven't since so I can only presume it didn't take off but it's these sort of schemes you should be campaigning for imo rather than blaming private landlords!

Dobby I am so sorry to hear that. You have had one shit time of it. Listen though....you have got to get yourself to a homeless organisation like Shelter or Refuge (I'm not in England so unsure of the right one) and avail of every help they can give you!! There IS support out there so go get it!! Don't give up love.
