Virginia Guiffre and Andrew settle out of court

Suzanne999 · 15/02/2022 16:15

From Metro
Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre have reached a ‘settlement in principle’ in the civil sex claim filed in the US, court documents show

Does this show his guilt? Water down in some way his actions? I’m sure some will say this proves she was only in it for the money. I think she and a lot of underage girls were abused but because of the wealth involved those guilty will never face justice. Can’t understand why I feel sad about this outcome.

Also, she doesn’t have to be perfectly behaved herself to be the victim of a crime.

SockFluffInTheBath · 15/02/2022 17:06

Bloody hell some of you need to look at yourselves Sad young woman groomed and abused by the rich and powerful grows up and takes the bastards down, gets payday for her charity supporting trafficking victims- and she’s the baddie? FFS Sad

TheKeatingFive · 15/02/2022 17:07

So that Twitter thread clarifies that Andrew settled, correct?

mummykel16 · 15/02/2022 17:08

Maybe she couldn't afford to take it further, how much do these things cost?

Blossomtoes · 15/02/2022 17:08

He couldn’t settle unless she agreed. It’s a reciprocal arrangement.
Angelswithflirtyfaces · 15/02/2022 17:09

Sexual assault cases are hard to prove in court with a jury. I did jury service for one, the man was clearly guilty but we had to go on evidence, it was too little in the end and he walked.
Good to know tax payers will be footing bill for his white, priviledged and vile abuse of less fortunate women, its sickening really.

HelloFrostyMorning · 15/02/2022 17:09

@Benjispruce5

Just shows his guilt. Very surprised he’s done that. There’s no way back now.
It doesn't necessarily show HIS guilt.

It’s always the woman’s fault though isn’t it?
mydogisthebest · 15/02/2022 17:09

I don't see that him settling means he is guilty.

How strange that she has lost the photo. You would bloody guard that photo with your life.

I was never sure I believe her and, even if she had been telling the truth, she was not underage. Now I think she almost definitely was lying

HelloFrostyMorning · 15/02/2022 17:10

Why on earth has SHE settled out of court?

I think I know. But won't say on here, for obvious reasons.

Blinkingbatshit · 15/02/2022 17:10

She doesn’t have the proof required (that photo really has a high possibility of being fake) & PA just wants it to go away at this point. Don’t get me wrong, PA is an odious, arrogant creep (he wasn’t nicknamed Randy Andy for nothing) but I’m not sure in this instance he can be accused of more than that and keeping very dodgy company (and having really bad judgement….ok, there are a few more things…). If she gives all the money to charity then that’s a great move pr wise for her.

Thank you @sockfluffinthebath - 100 per cent this.

CleansUpButWouldPreferNotTo · 15/02/2022 17:10

I think this is the best thing for both of them. He has always denied the allegations and just because he is odious, he should not have been found guilty just by weight of public opinion. She, while undeniably a victim, is not 100% squeaky clean either and the 'lost photo' is very telling.

This way both can move forward thinking they've come off ok. He's publicly stated his regrets, and money goes to her very worthwhile charity, while HM can attempt to enjoy her jubilee celebrations. Win-win.

I heard that the Queen is footing the bill and that Charles and William are said to be fuming about it. I hope that is true.
TatianaBis · 15/02/2022 17:11

I’d assume the photo has been nicked. It’s a very old photo and the case does not hinge on it so it’s by the by.

Classica · 15/02/2022 17:11

I was never sure I believe her and, even if she had been telling the truth, she was not underage.

So what you're saying is you didn't believe her and even if she was telling the truth who gives a fuck anyway?

ok

I think this is a surprisingly good, or at least not totally awful, result for the Dook.

knittingaddict · 15/02/2022 17:11

@AndAsIfByMagic

It was always going to happen.

They pushed and pushed until it threatened to ruin the Queen's jubilee to get maximum payout.

Evidence that the photo was fake has been around for a while.

He was a lecherous old goat but, even if he did have sex with her, she wasn't underage.

She's still being used and abused by men but now they are lawyers.

Let's hope that's an end to it.

You mean rumours and misogyny or actual evidence and facts? I doubt it's the latter.

He wouldn’t be shelling out loads of money if he was innocent. This is like Michael Jackson all over again.
Butterismylife · 15/02/2022 17:13

Oh look! Another rich white man buys his way out of trouble.

Ylvamoon · 15/02/2022 17:14

I'm sad she settled, but I think she had no choice. He had more money to throw at a legal team and being Royalty on top with a family firm to protect. So he bought the best team money could buy and all condemning evidence was twisted into obscurity.
It's just so frustrating and sickening!

knittingaddict · 15/02/2022 17:14

I'm delighted for her and hope she can now get on with her life. It's terrible that VG didn't get real justice, but at least Andrew is suffering to some degree.

ClariceQuiff · 15/02/2022 17:14

He's bought his way out of a trial. One rule for the rich ...

Newnamefor2022 · 15/02/2022 17:14

I don't think either of them emerge from this looking good. She seems to have been all about the money and he sounds horrible and rather pathetic.
