Virginia Guiffre and Andrew settle out of court

Suzanne999 · 15/02/2022 16:15

From Metro
Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre have reached a ‘settlement in principle’ in the civil sex claim filed in the US, court documents show

Does this show his guilt? Water down in some way his actions? I’m sure some will say this proves she was only in it for the money. I think she and a lot of underage girls were abused but because of the wealth involved those guilty will never face justice. Can’t understand why I feel sad about this outcome.

The whole hereditary principle is absurd in this day and age. Charles is unpopular, yet imagine if this individual had been the first born? Unelected, unaccountable, not there on any merit. Depressing to see this still exists in 2022

Oh absolutely this.

But what this disgusting little episode tells us is that you could put any old dickwad up there and if you put enough fancy uniforms on him and pin enough medals on his chest, certain people will always fall for it.

SpilltheTea · 15/02/2022 22:39

Why do people have such strong opinions about cases they know absolutely nothing about? You lot weren't there and have no idea what's gone on legally behind the scenes. How can you make an informed decision based on the daily mail?

MuffinStrops · 15/02/2022 22:40

Yes, the commentary on the radio stated that 95% of US cases are settled out of court. Astonishing.

CyberNan · 15/02/2022 22:40

@TerraNovaTwo

I'm not saying he's not guilty, but Giuffre has 'lost' primary damning evidence against Andrew - the photo in which he has his arm wrapped around her 17 year old self. That's the likely reason she has been forced to settle out of court.
what does this mean?
BreadInCaptivity · 15/02/2022 22:40
@BreadInCaptivity You can’t be that naive surely?
You haven't answered my question.

Why would the FBI withhold the photo?

If you are going to accuse me of naïvety I'd appreciate the benefit of your apparently superior intellect.

powershowerforanhour · 15/02/2022 22:42

"no abuse took place. She would have been made available for him"

I don't think I've read such a cracking contradiction in terms for a while

"Charles is unpopular, yet imagine if this individual had been the first born?"
True dat. If Charles hadn't existed or been female, this article would have been next in line. Um...thank goodness for Chaz? There's a sentence I never thought I'd write.

cherrysthename · 15/02/2022 22:43

'No crime was committed and no abuse took place' Then the next sentence describes the crime that took place lol: 'she would have been made available for him. '
Seriously. Wise up, @Molly499 . Challenge that misogyny.

cherrysthename · 15/02/2022 22:44

Cross posted!

Ikeptgoing · 15/02/2022 22:44

It doesn't answer anything now does it ?

U.K. law is age 16 for consent to sex - US law varies in ages depending on the state.

What I really don't like is this shenanigans of what is ever enough money to settle as it either was rape or coerced sex through trafficking or it wasn't, and the evidence and determination is there, - and when is it ever enough money to ignore that?

I just don't get how this settlement answers anything

declutteringmymind · 15/02/2022 22:45

I don't judge her for it. I think she was a victim of something, the extent of which we don't know, and maybe she's just done with the whole thing. However the way she was so adamant about not settling is most likely to have been a negotiating tactic, and the consequences for Prince Andrew have been pretty dire - he's been stripped of his royal duties, his patronages, and his mum has put a massive distance between them. he's lucky she's alive to pay the bill. Imagine if Charles was on the throne. Whether he committed any crimes is unknown, but this has left me in no doubt that he is a seedy bastard. Poor Sarah. I'd love to read her memoirs.

Neither come off well but I bet there are some pervs from those parties who are bricking it.

Roussette · 15/02/2022 22:45

Molly499. You really need to read more about sex trafficking victims.
The "she knew what she was doing" line is bad. Very bad

TonTonMacoute · 15/02/2022 22:46

I'm reading the diaries of Sasha Swire, wife of a Tory MP and minister from 2010-19 (yes, I know).

What is quite interesting is reading her views 10+ years ago of what's happening now, and Andrew is one of those things.

Back in 2011ish there were already major concerns in top government circles about Andrew's 'friendship' with Epstein, he was constantly touting about for freeloading work abroad on behalf of the country, and the government just wanted him to fuck off as he was even then a complete liability and an embarrassment. This was the coalition government, and he had probably been doing it with the tail end of the Labour government too.

All of them knew about it, all the political parties and all the civil servants in the top departments - everyone hushed it up!

Ikeptgoing · 15/02/2022 22:47

It's not clear and no one comes out of this with unimpeachable motives

We could have had an answer

TatianaBis · 15/02/2022 22:48

@BreadInCaptivity It’s too stupid question to be worth engaging with.

Frankola · 15/02/2022 22:49

It's pointless speculating why VG would settle out of court.

All I can say is I sincerely hope the settlement money is coming from personal royal wealth and not taxpayers.

RishiRich · 15/02/2022 22:49

I'm surprised but only because they both said they didn't want to settle, not because it wasn't the most obvious outcome. I believe her. It took me 10 years to go to the police about a man who sexually assaulted me as a teenager and it was very far down the scale from being trafficked for sex. Some things are more possible with maturity and distance in time.

TatianaBis · 15/02/2022 22:50

DT say 12 million, they’re more likely to know.

Ikeptgoing · 15/02/2022 22:50

I'm not sure I would have trusted a civil suit as that's such a low threshold, but I would have trusted criminal offences and convictions that arose out of it on either side.

Ikeptgoing · 15/02/2022 22:51

*US civil suit

Molly499 · 15/02/2022 22:51
 • no abuse took place. She would have been made available for him"

I don't think I've read such a cracking contradiction in terms for a while*

What contradiction? The evening would have included lots of young girls who could have paired up with older men, this has been going on for decades. Both parties had a choice, no laws were broken. She could have walked away, from him, from the party. Instead she stayed and opted for a trophy photo…look I got a prince. It was different then, no just whipping your phone out for a quick picture, getting the phot took effort. If this had been an aristocrat or politician this would have been a non story. She must have known that the royal family could not have had this dragged out in court, this was always about money.

I think they are both despicable.

Perime · 15/02/2022 22:51

@EmpressCixi

Can I please point out that Andrew was still friends and hanging out with Epstein after Epstein was convicted and guilty of grooming and sexual abuse ..went to prison no less ? !!!!

There’s no evidence that Prince Andrew had been friends and “hanging out” with Epstein as you say after the 2005 earlier conviction for molesting two underage girls. They met only once between 2005 and Epstein’s deaths in 2019, which was in 2010 in which Prince Andrew cut all formal ties with Epstein.

Oh please. He met with him to tell him he was breaking up with him. I don't think so!
Roussette · 15/02/2022 22:52

Poor Sarah. I'd love to read her memoirs

Poor Sarah my arse.

WE the public are paying for her to Ponce about in a 40 roomed 90 acre Royal Estate writing Mills and Boon novels whilst dressing up in Victorian costumes with velvet and riding hats to flog said books.
All while calling her ex "an honourable man" and "a giant if a man"
She is saying all this because she'd be broke otherwise.

Sorry for her.....no no no.

TheKeatingFive · 15/02/2022 22:52

All I can say is I sincerely hope the settlement money is coming from personal royal wealth and not taxpayers.

State money rather than specifically tax payer. But how would we even know? They keep that distinction as grey as they can.

millytint44 · 15/02/2022 22:52

Newsnight is saying 12 million quid??!

TheKeatingFive · 15/02/2022 22:53

Oh please. He met with him to tell him he was breaking up with him. I don't think so!

Didn't he stay for like 4 days? In his house?
