What is expensive but worth every penny?

Following on from the previous thread about expensive purchases that weren't worth it, what is expensive but actually is worth it? What do you own or have done that is very expensive but you don't regret it at all?

Charlotte Mensah products for my hair

Dyson hair dryer with Afro attachment

Kitchen aid stand mixer- my first big purchase , I've had it well over 10 years and it still runs perfectly.

Navy strength gin. If it's not navy it's not worth it.

Avoca Irish throws
Ooh yes - I have three and love them! All were gifts!
Dumbitdown · 13/02/2022 01:55

I can't afford it, unfortunately, but fertility treatment would well be worth the cost whether it worked or not

StrongSunglasses · 13/02/2022 01:57

Sage bean to cup. Real fur throw for bed. Silk pjs. Cashmere socks. Good wine (or at least discovering what u genuinely like and buying that). A computer that is fast. High thread count bedding/bedding that feels amazing.

StrongSunglasses · 13/02/2022 02:07

Also finding the right skincare and makeup that works for you. Agree kitchen equipment- best knives possible (or a good sharpener), food processor/chopper and a garlic slicing mandolin. Similar vein - false economy buying gadgets that are not fit for purpose- buy good peeler, garlic crush, masher, graters. A good workman may never blame tools, but a good workman won’t need to because they already have this as part of the “good workman” status. Lol

Maybe drive tractor to town @Onairjunkie & save on expensive train fares

My Remarkable 2. Honestly it’s the best thing for work for me. I can hand write notes
On it and then convert it to text and email it. It can also have pdfs on, which is very helpful.

AiryFairyLights · 13/02/2022 02:17

Bedding! Don’t buy cheap, it’s not worth it!

Hairbrush123 · 13/02/2022 02:18

Flying business (sometimes First) class. I’ve come to a stage in my life where I value comfort over cost and I would rather not visit my destination even I can’t travel with a level of comfort - even if that means travelling less frequently.

Molton Brown body care, a good pair of walking shoes, tumble dryer, buying groceries from Waitrose and university education (for me - it was an investment!)

Hairbrush123 · 13/02/2022 02:21

Oh I forgot bedding and my mattress! Splurged £100s for Egyptian cotton sheets with a very high thread count, Hungarian goose pillows and duvet and now even staying in 5* hotels - I miss my bedding at home.

Again splurged on a mattress and I always look forward going into bed.

@SpikeySmooth

I spent a few days in Edinburgh last year and got the taste for lorne (square) sausage. You can't get it anywhere in my area. Donald Russell the online butcher does it but they charge £2 per pack...and £10 p&p. (Free p&p kicks in at £50). So I pay way over the odds for lorne sausage. I order other bits like bacon and sausages but I rarely make that £50 minimum, damn them. I am a mug.
Iceland sell it (few different brands) if you can get delivery Smile

CanIPleaseHaveOne · 13/02/2022 04:39

@Onairjunkie

Private births at Lindo Wing. DeLonghi La Specialista coffee machine. My car (won’t say what it is for fear of reprisals). Facial ‘rejuvenation’ injections Weekly hair treatment and blow out, four weekly colour, six weekly cut. Personal trainer. First class train travel to town. My tractor.

I work so bloody hard and I don’t deny myself anything. Within reason.

All right.....spill! What are the facial rejuvenation injections???
yoyo1234 · 13/02/2022 04:43

Good childcare/education.

Winecrispschocolatecats · 13/02/2022 04:46

I own new eyes! I've been extremely long-sighted since childhood and last year came close to losing my driving licence due to struggling with a visual fields test required by the DVLA. So I got assessed for laser eye surgery - not eligible as my prescription was too high. But the ophalmologist suggested I look into refractive lens replacement - this is where they remove the natural lens in your eye and replace it with an artificial one. Oh my goodness. I've now been entirely glasses-free since the operation in December and it's so amazing. Nearly £8,000 and a lot of discomfort in the first month or so, but now I couldn't be happier.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/02/2022 04:53

Patagonia outdoor sports kit. Looks nice, perform as well, lasts forever. I have stuff that is over 20 years old and going strong.

In a similar vein, Muck Boots.

Yorkshire Teabags - taste brilliant with our Yorkshire water (and Yorkshire milk). Anything else just doesvt taste right.
