What is expensive but worth every penny?

Following on from the previous thread about expensive purchases that weren't worth it, what is expensive but actually is worth it? What do you own or have done that is very expensive but you don't regret it at all?

I am trying to remember/find the brand and colour of some red lipstick someone mentioned on this thread. It did sound very tempting. Please can anyone help?

KatharinaRosalie · 16/02/2022 20:39

Completely ruins all other chocolates, though, just nowhere near as good.

Try Swiss Läderach

BLISS2004 · 16/02/2022 20:41

@ScrollingLeaves
Some one mentioned Chanel Rouge Noir Lippy

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 16/02/2022 20:46

My little boy!!! He was an IVF baby. Worth every bloody penny. (And needle!)

You’re welcome. Glad it’s the one you’re looking for.

My babies (both human and canine!)

Perfume, good quality perfume, currently saving up for a bottle of my favourite, can't find in-store nowadays and it's like £2 per 1ml.

Good shoes, but can't justify full price for them, luckily I have found brand new ones in charity shops.

My mattress, god I love my mattress, even 12 years on its perfect for me, memory foam..etc etc

And my children I'm sure they have cost us more than we earn over the years

HelloBunny · 16/02/2022 22:05

Agree re. perfume. I passed by a rich man outside a posh hotel last week. He smelled absolutely gorgeous!

RosesAndHellebores · 16/02/2022 22:20

@HelloBunny how do you know he was rich?

I do want to know the brand of the mattresses several people have mentioned. I’ve just got a new one and am close to the date where I have to return it if I want an exchange. I find it too hard but feel bewildered and exhausted about trying to find a replacement.
HelloBunny · 16/02/2022 22:34

RAndH, he was stepping from a chauffeur driven car, into the top hotel in town, avec hot young lover. Both dressed head to toe in designer gear. That’s rich in my book!

A good quality haircut. Money was tight recently so I went to a cheaper hairdresser and she ruined my hair. Went to another cheaper one to fix the previous bodgejob and came out looking like a sheared poodle- not a good look. Never again.

My ugg boots- wear them every day in winter and never have cold feet. I have terrible circulation and Uggs are the only things that keep my feet/legs toasty.

My cashmere collection of jumpers, hats, scarves and gloves- couldn't live without these in winter.

Good quality perfume.

Le creuset crepe pan- used everyday for the last 5 years. Still as brilliant as the first day I used it.

Good quality pots and pans, generally.

Our sofa. I baulked at the price initially but 7 years on and it still looks and feels like it did in the shop.

Montezuma chocolate.

M&S chocolate twists- delicious!

toddybell · 17/02/2022 00:50

@ultrablue- I'm on the lookout for a good mattress. Please share which one you have. Ours is only 3 years old but I just can't on with it.

Back21970 · 17/02/2022 03:05

Working 3 days a week instead of 5 now is probably my biggest extravagance and well worth it. Agree with nice bedding and silk pillowcases. Bought a Streampod on Black Friday after seeing recommendations on here and as yet not taken it out the box as usually disappointed by any new hair tools I buy (Dyson and GHD Rise to name a few) but will give it a go this weekend as been mentioned a few times on this thread. Also may revisit Revitalash as used it originally and switched to cheaper alternatives which on reflection are probably not as good.

Nice restaurants.
Diamonds.

Ren

I tried them all. Emma, simba etc
And this one hands down the best
I have a referral code for £50 if you want it
But even if you don’t - highly highly recommend you try

Benjispruce5 · 17/02/2022 08:42

@toddybell John Ryan mattress.

spagbog5 · 17/02/2022 08:49

Our awesome dd - 16 now and very into clothes etc but the light of our lives after a very long and difficult wait for her to arrive.

Cp hart bathroom fittings after having cheap plastic stuff for years.

New boiler and hot water system that's changed our life after nursing a 20 year old system for too long.

Renovated sash windows and double glazing them , the change is amazing- no more drafts wafting the curtains etc.

Can you tell we have an old house Grin

White company duck and down duvets .
Like sleeping under a cloud .

Musmerian · 17/02/2022 11:26

@notwavingbutdrowning5 - I do absolutely agree with you in terms of social justice. However the fact is that state schools have more pressure on results than independents. We really don’t spoon feed and when I go on training conferences and exam marking meetings I’m always depresses by the lack of flexibility in text choice and the number of booklets, scaffolded essay plans etc .

notwavingbutdrowning5 · 17/02/2022 11:35

Musmerian, yes, I do take your point about the pressure on state schools to get results. However, those schools need to achieve a certain proportion of A-C grades (or whatever it is in the new GCSE system). At private schools, there is direct pressure from some parents for children to achieve A/A* because they believe that is what they are paying for.

Incidentally, I see this reflected in the university I teach at; some privately educated students demand top grades (one got quite threatening with a colleague of mine).

I stayed at a very fancy hotel last year and got given a free pair of Johnstons of Elgin cashmere socks. They are the most amazing socks I’ve ever owned. But they are £40ish a pair 😩

This might not be helpful as they aren’t on sale in this country, but if you have anyone in Australia who would be willing to buy and post for you, I swear by Humphrey Law socks. They are so comfy and last years.
