What is expensive but worth every penny?

Following on from the previous thread about expensive purchases that weren't worth it, what is expensive but actually is worth it? What do you own or have done that is very expensive but you don't regret it at all?

Another discount here! If anyone wants a Ninja blender or multi cooker MSE have a discount code via their weekly newsletter. It’s limited stock only so probably best to be quick if you want one.

@Thelnebriati

My winter boots. They are warm and dry and like walking on two fluffy clouds, and best of all I can actually walk on snow and ice.
What boots are these, cos sounds like i need them in my life! ha.
Imissmoominmama · 15/02/2022 22:32

I too, need to know what the winter boots are!

NRRK28 · 15/02/2022 22:50

My house

My range rover (my dream car since i was young)

My chanel flap handbag (ridiculously expensive for bags. Only have one and not gonna buy another one anymore. Feel ridiculous but make me feel good)

100% cashmere jumpers (feel very soft and comfy)

me109f · 15/02/2022 23:13

65in Nano TV. I had a perfectly good and newish 55in LED but I wanted better apps and more cinematic quality picture. Wasn't really expensive but it never ceases to amaze how pleasurable it is to view.
Spacious old luxury cars. Safe, comfortable and pleasurable to drive with hardly any depreciation.

Fillet Steak.
Lumpfish caviar.
Really comfortable footwear.

Pinkandpink · 15/02/2022 23:14

My two million pound yacht
Swimming pool in the back garden

Beat that!! 😃😃😃😃

ScrollingLeaves · 15/02/2022 23:36

@me109f
“Really comfortable footwear“
Do you mean in general or have you found a specific brand or shoe?

And out of curiosity, what are the “spacious old luxury cars”? You made them sound tempting. I probably could never have one, but as you said ‘old’, is there a chance they aren’t necessarily expensive?

@AnnaK163

“Level 1 & 2 courses in Plumbing, joinery, tiling and bricklaying.
There were no places available at all in local colleges for years, so I did them at a crammer private building college in Bradford and stayed over doing intensive courses. All done in 3 months instead of 3 years.

It cost over £2500 but worth twice that. I have already saved that in being able to do repairs for myself and neighbours. Plumbers here charge £150 per hour, I found out today when my mother rang one (and forgot I could do it)“

That is wonderful.

What a fantastic idea!

To ScrollingLeaves
I do not normally mention brands, but I have had 4 Ford Granadas (mks 2 to 4) and 2 Mondeos. My current Mondeo is 14 years old and is brilliant, practical, spacious and with all the important toys. Always passes the MOT with few issues. It cost less than £2000 6 years ago.
I also have a Volvo C70 convertible, a dream 4-seat sports car that cost less than £700 about 6 years ago. It has a few detailed issues but runs very well and also passes the MOT. I use it as a spare car. and for fun and sunny days. I have owned all sorts of coupe rubbish before, VW, Audi, Renault etc but they were expensive in insurance, depreciation and maintenance.
I appreciate comfortable shoes, and am not brand conscious. I used to buy Clarks mostly but they used to not last. I now mainly buy trainers and buy any that fit well even if they are not really needed. When they have had their day I just replace them with something new from my cupboard.

Puffalicious · 16/02/2022 01:20
@Puffalicious no, not arguing and definitely not insinuating anyones parenting is inferior.

For complete honesty; our DS1 has a degenerative disease as well as several other disabilities. We obviously want to make his life, as short as it may be, as comfortable as possible.
He gets to swim daily in a hydro pool, he gets to play a wide variety of instruments and has use of a music studio (he loves music) he gets to do art in a huge art studio with more equipment than I’ve ever seen.
There is no way he would get these things in a state school and for us, it’s worth every penny.
We self fund his fees and his EHCP covers daily 1-1 with his TA who is also a SENDCO.

Our DD who is older is also at a private school and we also feel it’s worth it for her. The facilities and resources they have are outstanding.
I'm so sorry to hear about your DS, it must be incredibly tough on you all. FlowersIt's fabulous that he can do the things he loves every day. That must bring you great comfort.

Prince Andrew: Paying millions to someone I've never met
And you think it’s worth it?!
longwayoff · 16/02/2022 11:00

It's worth it to him. He may have just learned that just because you say something isn't true, it doesn't make it so. Even if you are a 'Prince of the Blood Royal'.

SavageTomato · 16/02/2022 12:51

Neuhaus chocolates. Got given a box as a work present, blew my mind how good they are! They are over a quid for each chocolate, but if you want to have a treat for 20 to 50 quid, do it and savour every single bit by letting them melt in your mouth. Completely ruins all other chocolates, though, just nowhere near as good.

coodawoodashooda · 16/02/2022 12:51

I never thought I would say this but pavers are awesome.

CovidCurious · 16/02/2022 13:38

@SavageTomato - I totally agree with you about Neuhaus chocolates. So does a Belgian friend of mine, who has tried all the other Belgian offerings.

Clarins body moisturiser

@LilyMumsnet

Hey folks, can we have a bit of peace and love please?
These threads always descend into this. Sometimes you'd think that's why they started in the first place.
prettybird · 16/02/2022 16:29

@Baublebonkers

Clarins body moisturiser

Absolutely. I just love the Clarins Moisture-Rich Body Lotion. It makes your skin silky smooth. Worth every penny - although I make sure either to buy it at Christmas as part of the gift set or whenever there is an offer on.

A friend gave it to me once for Christmas and spoilt me for all other body lotions. I now often give it to others as a present.

Mildmanneredmum · 16/02/2022 16:43

@PriamFarrl

Removals companies when moving house. Worth every single last penny.
Couldn't agree more.
notwavingbutdrowning5 · 16/02/2022 16:55

This is exactly how I feel about Paul A Young chocolates.

MuffinStrops · 16/02/2022 17:25

I’m another who loves Clarins body moisturiser. I’ve never found another one as good. Eye wateringly expensive but can’t be beaten. I have recently started mixing in a bit of their body oil with it. Lush.

Thank you for your replies about cars and shoes.Your answer about the old and cheap, - but good - cars you have is inspiring.
