What is expensive but worth every penny?

Following on from the previous thread about expensive purchases that weren't worth it, what is expensive but actually is worth it? What do you own or have done that is very expensive but you don't regret it at all?

Isabel Marant Dicker boots - re-soled, re-heeled and I’m their sixth year.
Chanel sunglasses - bought them in 1999 and still wearing them
Hermes Birkin - madly extravagant gift but I use it EVERY day
Egyptian cotton sheets - they’re as strong as old rope and they just get better and softer with age
Molton Brown Vitamin E Lipbalm
Illy Decaf fresh coffee - the best decaf by far

Bean to Cup Automatic milk frother coffee machine

Swingoutsistersledge2 · 14/02/2022 19:17

Lurpack . The price at the moment is ridiculous but I couldn't use anything else .

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 14/02/2022 19:21

A wool duvet. Keeps you as cool or warm as you need. It's magic.

Vanderpump · 14/02/2022 19:23

silverbubbles · 14/02/2022 19:27

decent bras

TicTac80 · 14/02/2022 19:30

For all those who has laser eye surgery....how did you go about booking it etc? I've tentatively looked at getting this done but wouldn't know the first place to start!

To add to my list:
my kids, my cats, decent camping gear (I've gradually bought this over the years, and it's great stuff), Magimix food processor, having someone clean the outside windows and I paid a company to cut the hedge in my garden.

ToMockAKillingBird · 14/02/2022 19:32

Flying business or first class.
Cashmere socks.
Decent silk pillowcases - Sheridan are great
Bras that fit well

I agree, @silverbubbles. Also Lurpak.
To be a bit indelicate, quality loo paper! If you get the good quilted stuff, it does spoil you for other types! (Although if anyone's found good stuff on a budget, let me know)

Is *@Tarne* real ?!!!
I wondered the same.

@janj2301

I live in a normal 3 bed terrace and if I could afford it I'd install air con, it's a nightmare sleeping in summer heat, I have a fan on most nights in my bedroom even in the winter
It's very uncomfortable, isn't it. I used to live in a 70s house with big windows that got incredibly hot in the summer, we really needed air con. That was really down to poor design though. Plus it was very cold in the winter. Rarely just ok. A perfect temperature control all round would be worth paying for.
Tinysnickers · 14/02/2022 19:39

Sheepskin mittens. They have made more difference to my Raynauds than anything else. And I can fit a rechargeable handwarmer inside too.

mylifestory · 14/02/2022 19:40

a good expensive haircut

Maireas · 14/02/2022 19:40

@Sunshinedreaming2022

Air conditioning. We had it installed last spring and it has been worth every penny (and it cost a fair few!). They heat as well as cool so we’ve barely put on the central heating this winter
Now that is a good idea.
Crystalgirl90 · 14/02/2022 19:41

Learning to drive!!

AledsiPad · 14/02/2022 19:41

Another who loves the David Lloyd subscription. Worth every Penny for DH, DD and I, particularly the swimming lessons for DD which are cheaper than the local pool her friends go to, but the lessons have half the children. She progresses so fast!

My house. We rent, but pay a lot to be where we are (good schools) and have enough space for us to not drive each other insane.

Bin bags, toilet roll, cling film, dishwasher tablets, fairy liquid are things I’ve tried to compromise on but the cheap ones don’t work as well, so it’s a false economy.

The gardener - I will never give him up! He’s worth his weight in gold.

My degree. It’s brought me so much: self confidence, a new world of understanding, opening a proper career path rather than just jobs.

Private health procedures at times. I recently had a suspicious lesion removed and paid handsomely, but the alternative was waiting an unknown number of months, worrying about what it could be, spreading etc.

Peace of mind is always worth the cost IMO.

@fadingfast

Quality bars of soap. Different brands but usually with essential oils and natural ingredients. Lasts far longer than shower gel, feels much nicer on my skin and better for the environment. I couldn’t tolerate the chemical smell of shower gels when I was pregnant so swapped to decent bars of soap. Never gone back (apart from occasionally using small bottles when travelling).
Which brands of soap do you use?
Freebus · 14/02/2022 19:55

Depends what you count as expensive or not but the standard Asda shades is pretty decent - remarkably better than other supermarket equivalents. 32p a roll off you buy in bulk Vs 60p for andrex I think. They do a quilted one too but I've never felt the need for that.
