What is expensive but worth every penny?

Following on from the previous thread about expensive purchases that weren't worth it, what is expensive but actually is worth it? What do you own or have done that is very expensive but you don't regret it at all?

Don't know about in the past but....

Central heating & the money to pay the bill.

Agree with Purlux hairdryer
Disagree with Dyson airwrap. The technology is great but I think the build and materials are not worth the money. I still need to use straighteners.
Agree with Elmis
Also Clarins products
Stone kitchen counters
Period pants

Olaplex, salon and home treatments. My hair was breaking and falling out. 8 months later looks so much better and new growth coming through

Gel manicure every 3 weeks - really helps me feel ‘put together’

Nutribullet - use it every day

Kitchen aid stand mixer - so beautiful and makes baking so quick

BaggingTheWainwrights · 14/02/2022 18:35

Our campervan - wonderful freedom to have lots of breaks and enjoy the outdoor lifestyle.

My Rolex watch - worn every day for twenty years and recently valued at four times the original cost.

My piano.

Branded (Tommy Tippee or Lansinoh) breast pads. They're expensive but worth every penny. The cheap ones tended to stock to my sore nipples and ended up soaking through quite quickly.

stuckinashed · 14/02/2022 18:40

Having my teeth cleaned by the dentist every 3 months. Costs me £90 a time but worth every penny! 😬

pcl09 · 14/02/2022 18:42

My pride…. 🤣🤣 expensive life choices made at the expense of my pride.

Pricier eyeshadow palettes for sure. I can mix up my foundation, concealer with “drugstore” and be happy enough but my pricier eyeshadow palettes are worth every penny. That being said, Nars do the best foundation and concealer I’ve ever tried and I always go back to it.

Nearly new/not heavily used cars. No issues, comfortable, reliable etc. Current only had 12k miles on it when I got it but it has been the best car for having kids/as a family car. Huge boot, spacious back seats, decent HP, panoramic sunroof, Bose sound system, reversing sensors and cameras etc. It actually has an automatic self parking mode but I haven’t used it yet 😅. It makes travelling anywhere a breeze and due to the type of car it is, it’s decent in snow, too. A great all rounder that has kept its value very well and will sell easily when I change it in a few years.

Branded fizzy drinks. Especially colas, Diet Coke, CC etc. The cheaper version tastes like garbage in comparison.

Twillow · 14/02/2022 18:45

Vitamix.
Still can't quite believe I have a £500 blender, but it absolutely does things no other blender does and has been faultless for five years now.

Tooth implant after I shattered one by grinding teeth in my sleep
Best 3K I ever spent

Husband. Met him by using an old fashioned dating agency. 15+ years and 2 kids later still adore him Grin
Best 1.5K I ever spent!

Little white company bedding , Emma bridgewater collection and my kitchen aid .

Quality bars of soap. Different brands but usually with essential oils and natural ingredients. Lasts far longer than shower gel, feels much nicer on my skin and better for the environment. I couldn’t tolerate the chemical smell of shower gels when I was pregnant so swapped to decent bars of soap. Never gone back (apart from occasionally using small bottles when travelling).

My black military style woollen Karen Millen coat bought 12 years ago!!! I still love it, but wear it less now, so as to preserve it Smile

@BlondeWidow

🤣🤣🤣🤣 Private school is an absolute abomination! Most of them aren't even qualified! It's a business and will ALWAYS put profits before education.

This is very much not the case at the School I work at, or the School my daughter attends. I'm intrigued as to where you gained your expert knowledge?

Pigsears · 14/02/2022 19:05

My accountant. I hate doing my tax return. I can do any other type of admin- but not my tax. I have a total mental block with it.

And no, Im not super wealthy, and no its not tricky or complicated.

AwkwardAnnie · 14/02/2022 19:06

My log burner, I absolutely love it and the way things are going it may pay for itself in the next few years.

Getting 2 chesterfield settees, so comfy, will last for years (previous one was 30 years old) and means I don't have to fight with the kids about who gets to stretch out.

Kenwood Patissier mixer it's about 10 years old, used at least twice a week and if it ever breaks I'll buy another in a heart beat.

Fly London and Dr Marten boots. I'd be happy to wear them 12 months a year.... As it is I'm in Manchester so it's only boot weather about 10 months of the year. 😂😂

CauliflowerBalti · 14/02/2022 19:08

Rituals oil stick diffuser things.

Sage coffee machine.

DillDanding · 14/02/2022 19:08

The 8.5k I spaffed at the dentist. Have gone from having several dodgy teeth, plus a vaguely yellow set, to having perfect, white teeth that I’m proud of.

TicTac80 · 14/02/2022 19:09

-Thermomix - I can cook very well, but this makes my life so much easier (and makes meal planning/cooking much quicker*). I use my Thermomix and my Instant Pot more than my hob/cooker!
-Cordless Dyson. I've had it nearly 6yrs and it's still going strong.
-robovac (treated myself to this last year). Really good for keeping the place clean/dustfree in between big cleans (I have 3 cats...and 2 DC).
-epilator.
-tumble drier (costly to run but bloody handy).
-ultrasonic toothbrush - feels like I've been to the hygienist.
-wool quilts/duvets, and decent cotton bedlinen.

*Important as I'm a lone parent, working FT. And I bloody hate meal planning!
