What is expensive but worth every penny?

Following on from the previous thread about expensive purchases that weren't worth it, what is expensive but actually is worth it? What do you own or have done that is very expensive but you don't regret it at all?

I don't use the pool or gym at mine and it's still worth every penny! Cost per class for me is £1.58

I was hugely short sighted. My prescriptions were over -12 on both eyes. For decades I spent huge amounts on contacts for day wear and glasses for nights. The CL cost about £30 a month and the glasses were silly money. Even with free frames a basic pair cost about £450 a time.

Once I reached mid 40s and developed age related long sightedness the costs went off the chart. I needed varifocal glasses and contacts as well as varifocal sunnies, prescription swimming goggles and ski goggles etc etc.

When I turned 50 I paid out for bilateral varifocal lens implants. It's basically cataract surgery where my very short sighted natural eye lenses were removed and replaced with custom made varifocal permanent contacts. I now have perfect distance and close up vision adjusted for my astigmatisms.

It cost £6000 which was a huge amount to me 8 years ago but I have saved that much already in no longer paying for glasses and and CLs. And every year then goes by I save another £700/£800. And I've moved from diabolical vision to perfect vision.

£6000 seemed like such a lot of money 8 years ago but it was genuinely the best money I've ever spent and it has saved me thousands already.

@Everydaydayisaschoolday that’s a similar prescription to me and I’m considering that surgery!

Silk thermal underwear. No weight or bulk, they even make your clothes hang better, and you’re blissfully insulated from the cold. Best clothing I’ve ever bought.

nannyoggswhiskystash I recovered quickly, with virtually no pain. Just a bit of discomfort. I could walk and stand upright the next day. I wore a compression garment for 6 weeks and then wore support knickers for a couple of weeks after that.

My scar is amazing, it just looks like it's been drawn on with a light purple felt tip. Apparently, my surgeon is famous for his 'beautiful scars' Grin

My bed and the mattress.
Bed shipped from Macy's NY. It's mahogany, on a plinth 7-3 x 7.0 and mattress of 2000 springs with cotton silk and wool, plus a topper of wool with silk. Frette linen and white vintage French bed cover with fancy cutwork. I spend lots of time sleeping, reading and lounging on it.

Not very materialistic, car is old and a state. As long as it’s reliable I’d rather spend money making memories than on material possessions.

I was scared too but I was desperate. I was running out of options. As my prescription got worse with age there were fewer and fewer glasses and products available to me. And wearing contacts day on and day our was not good for my eye health. So I bit the bullet (after a lot of research) and had the surgery. It was amazing. 24 hours of flashes and difficulty focussing, then I was driving again 48 hours later

My night vision isn't great , I get a lot of flaring so I don't like driving at night. but it was bad before the surgery so I haven't lost anything there. What I do have is perfect close up and distance vision in normal and dim light. That's not something I have ever experienced in my life before. I can wake up in the middle of the night and dine my way to the loo on a strange place. And as for swimming and being able to open my eyes under water ! It is honestly like a miracle. And it will last a lifetime.

PM me if you'd like my surgeons name.
