What is expensive but worth every penny?

Following on from the previous thread about expensive purchases that weren't worth it, what is expensive but actually is worth it? What do you own or have done that is very expensive but you don't regret it at all?

@Mumdiva99

Expensive shower gel. It makes me feel special in the morning and quite indulgent.

(I just went into the ensuite which I am sharing with the kids due to a leak in their bathroom. It smelled gorgeous. So my brain spun and tried to work out why. Then I realised they are using my Xmas bottle of shower gel that was a treat to myself. The first one in ages as I've been using bars of soap to make better environmental choices. Needless to say it's half a bottle lighter after 3 kids have had showers. Good job I love them!! But I have hidden it now....)

Ooh which shower gel are you using? I've been trying to find one that has a decent strong scent

Independent midwives for DCs 2 & 3. Floris perfume.

How do you stipulate what perfume they wear? Couldn’t you have just lit one of those fancy candles?

?? There’s a full stop between the two different things!

My veneers. Had my front 4 teeth done 5 years ago now and cost me a fortune. Funny story, I went on a first date as a newly divorced 40 year old and as soon as I sat down he said "You have perfect teeth hope they are your own" I nearly spat my drink out! The date is now DH so he found out my secret...

OhWhyNot · 13/02/2022 12:04

My veneers too

Forgot about them ….

Even dentists have not been aware until they have examined me

Timeshare! It made holidaying so inexpensive we went away 6 weeks a year. I can still book into Disney resorts through it too! Amazing.

@SpikeySmooth

I spent a few days in Edinburgh last year and got the taste for lorne (square) sausage. You can't get it anywhere in my area. Donald Russell the online butcher does it but they charge £2 per pack...and £10 p&p. (Free p&p kicks in at £50). So I pay way over the odds for lorne sausage. I order other bits like bacon and sausages but I rarely make that £50 minimum, damn them. I am a mug.
If you need to top up your Donald Russell order, buy the confit duck legs - they heat up/cook in 20 minutes and you can have them with mash or use them to make chinese duck pancakes or in bao buns with finely chopped chillies and coriander leaves....they are the best!!!!

Ladurée macarons - I just wouldn’t bother buying cheaper ones now even though they are an exceedingly rare treat.

Cashmere sweater - light enough to move freely but still warm in a breeze. Also silk vests.

Leather gloves with silk lining - they don’t make my fingers itch, and they are thin enough to tie shoe laces and buckles without removing.

Ds’ school fees - never thought I’d be saying this but he has autism and the school are incredibly accommodating and even more importantly very kind to him.

All the lovely things on this thread and my first though? Brabantia bin liners Blush

WeAreTheHeroes · 13/02/2022 12:25

Not something you'll do often and really, in the scheme of things not that expensive, but paying the removals firm to do all the packing when you move is money well spent. You live normally until a couple of days before you move. No packing boxes around work and living with them all over the house. Use weekends for decluttering and doing other things.

bananabuddy3 · 13/02/2022 12:29

My home.

Ugg boots - my last pair lasted 9 years. The cheaper pair I bought a month ago to get through the last of this winter have already collapsed.

Holidays. Several have cost me an amount that has made me very nervous, particularly as up until two years ago my income was not good and thought is it worth it? It always has been. We get one life and there’s a world to see and if I can go and do and see what I want when the opportunity comes up without crippling me over, I do it.

University. Worth the debt, if I hadn’t gone I wouldn’t have my best friend and it gave me the confidence to live that I so badly needed and gave me confidence in being me.

Tana433 · 13/02/2022 12:30

Not massively pricey but can definitely add up over the months. I go on World Of Books every month and treat myself to a few hardback editions of favourite books. Im trying to replace all the favourite books and authors i have read over the years. Think Rosamund Pilcher, Barbara Taylor Bradford, Agatha Christie (God, really showing my age here!) My bookcase is becoming a source of great joy!

Badbaddog · 13/02/2022 12:30

And my cleaner. She’s been with me for decades and has made my life perfect
