What is expensive but worth every penny?

Following on from the previous thread about expensive purchases that weren't worth it, what is expensive but actually is worth it? What do you own or have done that is very expensive but you don't regret it at all?

Music lessons after 30 year hiatus. It is fantastic being able to play in an orchestra again

FourChimneys · 13/02/2022 07:33

Woodland. I love owning a small wood, which our neighbours children played in all through lockdown.

Musical instruments. My cello cost an eye-watering amount but looks and sounds gorgeous.

Clockers41 what do you play?

Isonthecase · 13/02/2022 07:37

Really nice quality vanilla essence and chocolate for baking, everything tastes better and at £6 a bottle barely more expensive than the cheap stuff you have to use loads more of.

Great pillows. Ahhhhhhhhhhh.

Real leather bags and shoes (fake leather doesn't last or look great)
Estee Lauder Night serum
Nyetimber sparkling wine (as good if not better than good champagne)

Beautiful gold and diamond jewellery, I can't stop twizzling and gazing when I am wearing it.

Our absolutely adorable and very funny animals. They each are such full on characters, they literally name my heart sing just spending time with them, just being with them and looking at them! We have ponies, horses, dogs, puppies and other gorgeous critters and their antics give our family lots of laughs every single day.

Children! But they give the best bear hugs as they are all much taller than me now! Grin

Family holidays: we love skiing and spending time with family and friends in all corners of the world. It's lovely to be able to visit and stay with old school friends in what other people might consider honeymoon destinations. Because there are so many of us, the flights alone are prohibitive.

I agree with everything cashmere and merino and Egyptian cotton and Avoca!.

Beautiful scents you treasure.

Our home. Just beautiful, tranquil and spacious. We had it be valued a few years ago and the estate agent said she often could tell from the atmosphere in the home whether there had been a death or a divorce. She said as soon as she walked in she could tell it was a very happy house with great vibes and a light, comfortable atmosphere.

It was all so true as when we went house hunting at that time it seemed it didn't matter how expensive or large a house was, sometimes the atmosphere was just grim. We ended up staying instead and now the children say they never want us to sell it...!

Our bed. Just a dream and we have very good night sleeps as it is so comfortable and cosy.

Beautiful, original and commissioned artwork that tells a story. It doesn't matter how big or small. If you have chatted to the artist and it's made locally even better.

My horse arena - basically a big sandpit for me to ride my horse in cost more than a high priced family car but I love it and think how lucky I am everyday I ride in it.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 13/02/2022 07:53

House Of Colour colour day. Rigby and Peller bra fitting.
Both saved me an absolute fortune long term with no more wrong purchases.

Good quality sewing thread. The cheap stuff catches and snarls in my machine, the good stuff runs through like a dream and is a joy to sew with.

My Duo suede knee boots, because I need a wide calf size. These have lasted years and are so comfy and stylish.

My hairdresser. It’s a family run salon, quite pricey but lovely and I don’t trust anyone else with my extremely disobedient hair. Now I’ve stopped colouring it I don’t go so often but they cut very, very well.

Snag tights - fun colours and patterns and they last and last.

My Gmundner dinner service - expensive (even second hand) but incredibly good quality and I love using it.
