What expensive purchase do you regret spending money on?

Or purchases, whatever it was you spent money on and was so expensive, why do you regret it? Impulse purchase in the heat of the moment? I think the most expensive things I regret spending money on are expensive beauty products which I didn't need. I enjoy using them, but regret spending precious money on them. What expensive things do you regret spending money on?

@Bogofftosomewherehot

Georgio Armani suit. Cordless Dyson. Peleton.

Have a Lumea - been sat in the box for 4 months, not even opened. Still have hairy legs. This has prompted me to open it tomorrow.

4 months. I have one that’s been sitting here unused for 5 years. Blush. I don’t even know if it still works. I read the instructions and it said not to use it on varicose veins so back in the box it went (my right leg is horrendous for varicose veins).

I’m wondering whether to have a go after reading this thread and see if it still works after all this time. But I’ve got visions of accidentally lasering through a vein and I would hate for my death certificate to have to read “hair-induced blood loss.” 😬😆

I think this sort of thing happens to every hot tub owner to be fair. I still want one though. Hot tub Madness

We got an inflatable one and the only regret I have is that it won’t deflate enough to get it back in its box. I’m looking forward to getting it going again come late spring.

BrassicaBabe · 13/02/2022 09:10

Oh god yes, an Instapot! I swear MN made me buy it too Grin

BrassicaBabe · 13/02/2022 09:12

Shark battery vacuum too. New born babies are less tender! Angry

Motherofgorgons · 13/02/2022 09:13

Def Instapot. I find it fiddly and cumbersome. prefer my ordinary pressure cooker.

@GeneLovesJezebel

Don’t waste your money on hair removal, once you hit menopause it disappears anyway !
Mine's migrating to my chin 😨

I'm another who got carried along with a big wedding. Really wish we'd done something different, smaller, half the number of people.
ILs were a nightmare for wanting to add people, really wish we'd said no. There were people at my wedding who I've never seen since.

@Procrastination4

A black Smeg kettle (actually bought two as I thought the problem with the first one was because I hadn’t descaled it or something). The second one was even more of a disaster. After six months of use it started to look like something used on a building site, with little scratches appearing on the paintwork. I can’t blame wrong cleaning etc as I’ve been the one cleaning it with warm water and soft cloth only. Now the paint is also starting to wear away from the button on the lid that you depress to open the lid to fill the kettle. So I’m never buying a Smeg kettle again! On the other hand, I bought a Dualit toaster about five years ago after seeing them recommended here. Looks great and works perfectly and I love it. Am now tossing up whether to buy a Dualit or Kitchen Aid kettle to replace the Smeg junk. (Though I know a cheaper brand will work just as well and last just as long if not longer.😂)
Don’t buy a Dualit, absolutely appalling quality now.
justasking111 · 13/02/2022 09:30

KitchenAid items, they're so expensive are they worth it??

TenoringBehind · 13/02/2022 09:30

@Procrastination4 don’t buy a Kitchenaid. We’ve had 2 (because dh knows best ) and both failed after about a year. I’ve literally just been without a kettle for a month waiting for Kitchenaid to replace the second one. Their customer service is shocking!

TenoringBehind · 13/02/2022 09:31

My Kitchenaid mixer, however, is fantastic. Have had it for 20 years and used it a lot!

PickledOnionSandwich · 13/02/2022 09:31

Another vote for Babyliss big hair. Also rollers. Had visions of gorgeous swishy hair every day but no, nothing. A holiday for myself and DS years ago that we couldn’t go on at the last minute and the fucking insurance company wouldn’t pay up. £1600 lost 😢

CrimbleCrumble1 · 13/02/2022 09:33

I agree about the Smeg kettles.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/02/2022 09:34

I bought a Duskit toaster abs kettle at the same time, about 5 years ago. Toaster is the traditional Dualit type with the lever and timer. Toaster is still going great guns. Kettle probably didn’t last a year. I know have a very cheap glass kettle that cost £20 from a local hardware store and is perfect, and made in UK! It makes me smile because it lights up blue when it boils.

PickAndChooseMe · 13/02/2022 09:36

Cheating here as it was bought from QVC so I did return it....but the postage was expensive!! 😂
A couple years ago the Dyson Airwrap. I used almost daily for a couple months (it was during their extended Christmas returns).

It was ok but not worth my £££.

Ulysses · 13/02/2022 09:36

I love my Kitchenaid Artisan mixer. I had a Siemens Porsche kettle and matching toaster. The toaster was the worst for only doing the bottom half. It was very much style over substance.
I think it’s worth paying for the thing the brand is renowned for but when it comes to diversifying their products they are less trustworthy.

I have the standing mixer and the juicer. Both are perfect.
DiscoStusMoonboots · 13/02/2022 09:39

My flat. Bought new 7 years ago, now stuck there due to the cladding crisis and no idea how long for.

User0458832 · 13/02/2022 09:40

Smeg kettles did very badly in Which reports, Kitchenaid variable temperature one was near the top, though I think that is use rather than longevity. We just bought a Kitchenaid one so hope it is OK, I did notice that the usual price for these had gone from £149 to £179 just this last week, luckily mine was one of the few left on offer. A £30 increase...

Dogmum40 · 13/02/2022 09:41

I don’t tend to buy gadgets, I have just two bags both of which I use, and our wedding was cheap but my god the amount of clothes and shoes (both designer and high street) I’ve bought and just given away breaks my heart! Buying online and not having a post office near to me to return is one of the main reasons it sits there and gets given to charity! (But not the online reason)

I’ve now banned myself from online shopping! I must have spent thousands over the years! I only wear basic clothes too so a lot of it was just not practical for my lifestyle Confused

Franticbutterfly · 13/02/2022 09:45

A Range Rover Sport. It broke down a lot and cost a fortune to fix.

Maneandfeathers · 13/02/2022 09:46

First thing was the shark hoover. Hated it so much it got thrown in the skip in a fit of rage. It had 2 motors in a year and clogged the second I moved it. Add to that there’s a million filter bits that all needed cleaning constantly otherwise it refused to suck up anything. My old trust henry came back out and does the job so much better!

Secondly I would say a car on PCP. Paid £360 per month for 3 years and still owed thousands at the end! Just wasn’t worth the amount I spent. All of the fancy features never got used and after a year it was filthy and full of sweet wrappers and little kid footprints. Every month the payment would come out and I would think what am I actually paying this for.
Gave it back snd bought an old car outright which does exactly the same job but does not have a ridiculous payment every month!

Lockdownbear · 13/02/2022 09:50

My other regret is a granite worktop. I hate it and it's impossible to clean it.

Roselilly36 · 13/02/2022 09:53

Absolutely, DH had one, very poor build quality, couldn’t wait to see the back of it.
RosesAndHellebores · 13/02/2022 09:55

Years and years ago. A Filofax. It just gave me a bulky, heavy thing to organise is rather than making me more organised.
