What expensive purchase do you regret spending money on?

Or purchases, whatever it was you spent money on and was so expensive, why do you regret it? Impulse purchase in the heat of the moment? I think the most expensive things I regret spending money on are expensive beauty products which I didn't need. I enjoy using them, but regret spending precious money on them. What expensive things do you regret spending money on?

A black marble wash basin.
It's beautiful but incredibly porous and we have chalky water.
It's obviously not been sealed.
It will end uk being an expensive plant pot.

Pembertonrd · 12/02/2022 21:12

up not uk

ZenNudist · 12/02/2022 21:13

Why not seal it? You can buy stuff to seal stone. We seal our stone floor after professional cleaning

Bought a house once, only had it 6 months. Only lived in it for 3 of those. That was rather expensive and lost a fair bit on it as well, which left me in debt for a few years. My regret was buying it in the first place.

Usererror1999 · 12/02/2022 21:16

Not as expensive as all of these. An instapot !

LadyCleathStuart · 12/02/2022 21:16

My youngest dog! He is such an arsehole. Love him but still an arsehole.

Honeymoon in costly location in a 5 star hotel. A very expensive way to discover that one beach is very much like another.

bobsholi · 12/02/2022 21:26

Breadmaker. It just sits gathering dust in the kitchen.
Trampoline which I bought in lockdown so it was about 4 times the price they usually are. The DCs have only used it a handful of times.
Retro games console I bought for DH. He's never played on it.

SunflowerSmith · 12/02/2022 21:28

Wooden floor, harder to keep clean than a carpet and showed every mark plus cold and clunky.

Memory foam mattress, no idea why I thought it was a good idea for a mattress to remember me, I want one where it instantly springs back to shape when I turn over and not have to crawl out of a person shaped dent.

Fittleswade · 12/02/2022 21:29

The flat I bought 3 months ago. I loathe it. I'm definitely going to lose money on it.

MartinMartinMarti · 12/02/2022 21:29

Wedding.

It was a great day, but just a day. Not worth the £££.

FindmeuptheFarawaytree · 12/02/2022 21:30

A no!no! - I was suckered in and it is an absolutely useless piece of junk. Annoying as I'm usually not so easily swayed.

Fiftysixthnamechange · 12/02/2022 21:30

Dyson hairdryer, I don't get it, am I missing something?! It's crap, leaves my hair Crispy too.

NutellaEllaElla · 12/02/2022 21:31

Pretty much all kitchen gadgets. Air fryer, slow cooker, rice cooker. They're all a faff to use, clean and take up to much space.

ANameChangeAgain · 12/02/2022 21:31

My youngest dog! He is such an arsehole. Love him but still an arsehole. beat me to it. My lump is squishing her face up against mine, blocking me from my phone, wine and TV.

NutellaEllaElla · 12/02/2022 21:32

Oh and the Phillips Lumea. I don't have time for that.

LadyPropane · 12/02/2022 21:32

Over paid for a second hand car.

We paid it all off years ago and we still have and use the vehicle, but it still pissed me off that I spent as much as I did.

NutellaEllaElla · 12/02/2022 21:33

Oh god and the Babyliss big hair. Fucking gadgets, I need to stop buying them!!

NoneOfYour32Potatoes · 12/02/2022 21:34

Some jewellery a long time ago that now is just a burden because we have to insure the jewellery and I will never wear them again, the resale value is poor and I seriously doubt my DC will “treasure” them since I don’t.

VodselForDinner · 12/02/2022 21:35

My Mulberry Bayswater handbag. Lovely looking bag but so heavy it’s just impractical for my needs.

Think I’ve used it twice and now it’s sitting all forlornly in its dust bag in my wardrobe.

Fittleswade · 12/02/2022 21:35

Ooh I love mine! I'm curly haired, it's ace.
anticlock · 12/02/2022 21:35

A house that we put back on the market after 10 months. Awful neighbours.
Babyliss Big Hair.

ISeeTheLight · 12/02/2022 21:37

Our house. It's a new build and we've had a huge amount of problems - small and big like plumbing and internal walls bending because they went cheap and went for wood rather than steel joints. Half our estate have plumbing issues.
4 years on they're still trying to sort it. Never again.

On the upside it's gone up in value by 25% in that time so I don't think we'll miss out financially (we're looking to sell in the next few months) but it's been a nightmare.

FurbleSocks · 12/02/2022 21:37

I bought a beautiful Pure Evoke 3 DAB digital radio when it was brand new out. Cutting edge and state of the art with a SD card slot so I could jump in the shower and not miss anything on the radio.

Cost shitloads especially on the piss poor graduate salary I was on. Never really quite worked how I wanted it to and not great reception in the most convenient place I wanted to keep it.

Beautiful piece of kit but such a waste.

Fortunately sold it for a good price once it became a classic but still disappointed with my decision.

Itshothothot · 12/02/2022 21:38

Miele washing machine (had loads of issues with it)

Wool rugs (they never stopped shedding)

Trampoline (barely used)

Bosch cordless hoover

Loads of high end beauty products

Lazer hair removal
