Mine is a famous quote;

People don’t remember what you say
People don’t remember what you do
But people always remember the way you made them feel

I really don't like the 'don't ask permission ask for forgiveness later' one

It's basically saying, do whatever the fuck you like to anyone but it will be ok if you say sorry!

FrangipaniBlue · 11/02/2022 22:38

Those who matter don't mind,
Those who mind don't matter

You don't know what you don't know

"If you wrestle with a pig, you'll both end up covered in shit"
Passed down from my mother, translated from her first language

LittleRedFoxy · 11/02/2022 22:48

Also, again from my mother, never tell your husband (or SO) how much money you have exactly - always keep a stash of Get Out funds. Just in case.

-Don’t absorb criticism from someone you would accept advice from.
-if you’re unsure, make an informed decision (I use this all the time, it reminds me to actually find out some answers to help guide me… not just guess when faced with a complex decision).
-if you’re damned if you dont, and damned if you do… do the ‘do’ that suits you.

MrsDoraDumble · 11/02/2022 22:51

-Don’t absorb criticism from someone you wouldn’t accept advice from! (Sorry typo before spoiled the meaning)

GeodesicDome · 11/02/2022 22:56

We're all going the same way.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 11/02/2022 22:56

You catch more bees with honey than vinegar.

My ex of 12 years still hasn't worked out that we'd get on so much better if he was nice or respectful to me.

Also (from my mum) 'if it can't happen then it won't happen. I say this and use this a lot.

Wannabegreenfingers · 11/02/2022 22:58

Never have more children than you have hands

I agree. I had a conversation with DD1 (13) about this in the last 2 weeks. If you by-pass my ability to say 'no' and explain why, expect me to lose my fucking shit.

Life’s too short grab happiness.

Principles can be very expensive.
Don’t be a slave to your house.

elfycat · 11/02/2022 23:06

Everyone fed, no one dead.

Some days the minimum is enough with parenting/cat ownership etc.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 11/02/2022 23:07

My Mum had a daily calendar on her kitchen counter with sayings on it. One day it said "Those who say it can't be done should not stand in the way of those who are doing it." It struck a chord with me because of what was going on in my life and helped me push back against those who had had their opportunity to put their view forward and now needed to shut up.

I was so impressed with the advice that I check the calendar every time I visited my Mum, but the entire rest of the year was just bland nothings.

Feel the fear and do it anyway.

First applied to my terrifying early junior doctor days, but equally applicable to any new challenge. I used to tell myself it and I think basically it means, it's fine to feel scared but you still have to do the thing anyway so stop worrying and just get on with it.

AKASammyScrounge · 11/02/2022 23:09

Forgive everybody.

The safest thing about betrayal is it never comes from your enemies.
Pick your fights.
Be a first rate version of yourself and not a second rate version of someone else.
Only dead fish go with the flow.

Highfivemum · 11/02/2022 23:15

Sadest not safest.
