It was the exercise bit that I remember

^to take exercise either alone or with other members of their household*

Didn't say how far you could go or how long you could exercise for. Looking at you, Derbyshire Police

itsgettingweird · 12/02/2022 21:46

Was Carrie mixing in No 10 garden - which they claim was essential for work purposes - essential to her work?

It would help to have it made public her role within the government so we can see why it was allowed for her to mix and also to organise 'work' gatherings within the space.

The hour thing was actually the fault of journalists iirc and imo. .

When a minister was asked what's reasonable they said about an hour. This was based on distance to walk - decent run/cycle etc and a reasonable but not too far distance from home.

ITV (GMB) kept saying "your hours daily exercise" but that was never a law. Just verbal guidance.

That's why ds and I started walking to supermarket for milk etc - because round trip was longer than an hour including the shopping Grin

Hang on, what has what Keir Starmer says got to do with it?
Is he posting on this thread?

Well, I didn't post this;
Whereas a combination of Starmer and Thornberry would be pretty formidable.

This is March 2020

I think the earliest gathering being investigated is May 2020;

Fun fact about falls and barrels, might come in handy for quizzes

I have something fun to share before I sign off tonight - it's very relatable to our discussion!! Quite an amusing coincidence really -

I was just looking at Keir Starmer's old school (it became a private school whilst he was still there, although apparently his parents didn't pay fees - direct grant).

I am not sure exactly what the regulations were in May 2020. They kept changing.

Yes, the beaches were lovely

This is something I just Googled. Just like you

May 19th

Revellers enjoying a 24th birthday party in Manchester have sparked outrage after they were filmed drinking, dancing and inhaling balloons in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

At least 20 people are thought to have attended a party in the back garden of a home on Saturday night, despite the public being told not to visit other people's homes.

In a series of tweets, officers explained they were 'shocked that people would care so little' about the restrictions on social gathering, which have been in place for weeks due to the pandemic.

Elsewhere a crate of ice filled with drinks stood in the corner as members of the group continued to socialise.

The continuing defiance among some Britons to abide by the lockdown measures comes as the government announced on Monday that people should now self-isolate if they lose their sense of smell or taste as it could be a symptom of coronavirus.

AdamRyan · 12/02/2022 22:19

Actually I think Keir Starmer is from a working class background and was fortunate to go to a grammar school then get a scholarship when it was made private

Although how on earth that is relevant to the PM being a liar who thinks he's above the law is beyond me Confused

Thank you for keeping these threads going. I especially love the contributions from those who claim our government is honest, trustworthy, intelligent, selfless...
Everytime they post it reminds me of the anger I've had about being treated like a fool.
Please keep these threads going.

Or is this the like the donkey sanctuary again

cakeorwine · 12/02/2022 22:23

Despite someone's attempts to derail, this thread is really about Johnson and his downfall.

DePfeffoff · 12/02/2022 22:57

Carrie and Boris are in the same household and she is socially distanced from the other two men

Once you're in an illegal gathering, being socially distanced at the point when a photograph is taken isn't a defence

DePfeffoff · 12/02/2022 23:01

@Clavinova

I thought No 10 said they were raising money for charity as well as boosting staff morale. I don't think quizzes are that unusual.
Another excuse that didn't constitute a defence to holding an unlawful gathering. Likewise drinking water.
DePfeffoff · 12/02/2022 23:02

Private schools (day and boarding schools) often provide accommodation for the head and their family - rather like Boris and his family.

And private school headteachers still couldn't host illegal gatherings in their living quarters, or indeed in the schools themselves.

AdamRyan · 12/02/2022 23:04

Ah....so maybe his defence is going to be he lived with carrie so they were in the garden as a household but it was also his place of work so he was simultaneously at a work meeting but Carrie wasn't at that despite being present ConfusedConfused

AdamRyan · 12/02/2022 23:06

Wasn't there a lot of stuff from Boris at the time about the spirit of the Law? Confused
Honestly, I don't get how anyone thinks this is OK.

What on earth does a comment on Starmer's potential abilities when negotiating with foreign powers have to do with you dragging in his views on social gatherings in the UK?

I love them too. The longer they and their like support Johnson staying in power, the more nails are being driven into the Conservative party's coffin.
Words · 13/02/2022 06:13

Thanks again for these threads.

I wonder if Johnson has put that call into Mr Loophole yet? Seems like a perfect fit to me, especially with his expertise in parking violations and everything.

Re earlier conversation on Cummings. He is Mandelson on steroids.

Downing Street is exactly like a school.

In a way - yes.
Private schools (day and boarding schools) often provide accommodation for the head and their family - rather like Boris and his family.

Will there be extra Geography lessons?

I think the reason is quite clear. Boris refuses to do any work without cake, booze or wifey present.

I understand it is relevant because Keir is a regular poster on this thread. In fact I think it is sufficiently important that every poster should post links to a school they attended 30+ years ago.

Many headteachers of private and state schools held large regular gatherings throughout the pandemic, including some during the holidays. I have no idea what they were thinking.

borntobequiet · 13/02/2022 08:46

It must be true about schools because I remember lots of Mumsnet threads accusing teachers of wantonly spreading Covid by having buffets and sitting on chairs in staff rooms, which came as a surprise to teachers as in their experience staff rooms were closed or limited to two or three people at a time, and chairs had been removed in order to prevent people sitting on them.
Perhaps it was common in the private sector though.

ClaudineClare · 13/02/2022 08:58

@Clavinova

Was the work meeting with Carrie Johnson, the wife of the Prime Minister there?

Yes - although not married at the time. Boris and Carrie are only talking to each other when the photograph was taken - the two men at their table are turned away, having their own conversation. Carrie doesn't have a drink on the table - unlike the others - she was probably there for a shorter length of time.

This is hilarious. Scrapety-scrape.
CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 13/02/2022 09:02

Worrying that Priti Patel is trying to exclude London mayor from process of replacing the met chief. ( According to Sunday Times). Not sure if this is due to pique at her lack of leadership being shown up, or something more sinister.

I’ve just caught up with the video of old Pork Markets talking over the interpreter… don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone more out of their depth! It is funny though.

Johnson cannot scrap the Fixed Term Parliament Act - it can only be scrapped by parliament.

Notonthestairs:
Well that's the point of a majority - you pass the legislation you want. Unless the Lords "interfere" I suppose or your Whips can't keep MP's in line.

The government has been defeated three times since June 2020.
