How many takeaways?!

I'm wondering if my husband and I are over indulging and it would be good to know if we are normal or not Grin

How many takeaways do you and your DP (not DC) have per week / month? 🤫

I also find takeaways a bit disappointing and sometimes a bit gross too (cold and stodgy!)

TinySaltLick · 11/02/2022 09:41

Twice a week, but I live in a city so have hundreds of great, tasty and if required healthy options

WondrousAcorn · 11/02/2022 09:42

The standard of takeaways has really gone up in this area, which makes them far more appetising. Ten+ years ago I wasn’t fussed and rarely wanted them. Now they are a real temptation. However, price is commensurate with quality and some meals aren’t much cheaper than eating out. So it was fine to splurge in lockdown when we weren’t able to spend money on other leisure stuff (dp was having 3 takeaways a week then - at least), but we’ve had to cut down since. Maybe three a month max.

WensleydaleCrumbs · 11/02/2022 09:42

On average once a week, and then sometimes a lunchtime Deliveroo with the work guys a week too.

SquigglePigs · 11/02/2022 09:42

Usually once a week-ish. Last year due to illness/stress etc it had crept up so getting it back under control now. Would like to get it down to 2-3 times a month rather than current 4-5 though.

I agree with others about being disappointed sometimes though. We've been trying for a while to find a great Chinese takeaway and there's always something not quite right. On the other hand we have a wonderful Nepalese restaurant that delivers so that tends to be where most of our takeaways come from. Fish and chips once a month or so two although DH is less keen.

JaceLancs · 11/02/2022 09:42

None
We are always out for coffee somewhere though
Eat out 1-2 times a month

BigGreen · 11/02/2022 09:43

Once every 3 weeks or so.

CocoPancakes · 11/02/2022 09:43

None on a frequent basis. They all just taste like greasy crap, which happens to be my signature dish so I'd rather just not pay for it.

EileenGC · 11/02/2022 09:45

I don’t have a DP at the moment, but it varies between 1 and 3 dinners a week. I work insanely long hours and simply don’t have time to go to the supermarket or cook sometimes (and I’m never at home to receive a delivery).

Unless you also count the freshly-cooked-by-someone-else meals that I pick up from the local food trucks as takeaways? In which case I have one 6 days a week for lunch! My company is at fault here for closing the canteen when Omicron started Hmm

1 a week when off work, up to 10 a week if we count lunches, when doing the full 70-80 hours per week schedule.

Jojibear · 11/02/2022 09:46

About twice a month but used to be once a week when we both worked full time. We have 2 great local Chinese takeaways plus a good selection on Deliveroo so quite lucky!

GingerGloucester · 11/02/2022 09:46

2 or 3 a year maybe

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 11/02/2022 09:46

1 or 2 a month. We lived opposite a Chinese takeaway and also a kebab shop so no delivery charge and only get one dish each so costs about £12-£15.

RosesAndHellebores · 11/02/2022 09:47

Once or twice a year. Don't see the appeal in the context of cost, still having to decant to plates and wash-up, notwithstanding the smell and packaging. It takes minutes to throw together a good meal with fresh ingredients.

Plumpciousness · 11/02/2022 09:47

None. But use supermarket ready meals 1-2 times a week and the occasional supermarket pizza (and add toppings).

I've never understood the popularity of takeaways (apart from going to a fish and chip shop) - but maybe I'm just tight with money!

LBOCS2 · 11/02/2022 09:47

Twice a week? If it's not takeaway, chances are we'll have been out to eat instead.

whoruntheworldgirls · 11/02/2022 09:48

We eat out at the pub once or twice a month and have a takeaway maybe once month

Lyricallie · 11/02/2022 09:48

We seem to go through phases where we have some once a fortnight and then don't have one for ages. I also live in the arse end of nowhere so the options aren't great. A new place opened up and I was so excited and it was so bland. I was so sad.

MorningStarling · 11/02/2022 09:48

Pre-Covid maybe every three months or so. Since Covid I've not had one, it's an unnecessary risk.

Weekendssuck · 11/02/2022 09:48

Generally twice a week

Cryingbutstilltrying · 11/02/2022 09:49

No takeaways, live in the middle of nowhere so no delivery and it’s just quicker to get on and cook. I can see the appeal if it’s just along the road for you.
We eat out maybe once a month? The dc eat adult portions now and it costs about £50 to £75 for 4 mains and a soft drink each, no alcohol or puddings. I don’t mind paying as I appreciate the hospitality industry has had a dire time of it but £75 is basically a weeks worth of main meals at home.

Ginger1982 · 11/02/2022 09:49

Depends on what you define as takeaway! For me, it means big Chinese, pizza or Indian and for that I would say once every 2/3 weeks. We get a Greggs most Saturdays though.

Planetzero · 11/02/2022 09:49

Once every three or four months. Only because I’m nagged by the teenage dc. I wouldn’t bother otherwise.

girlmom21 · 11/02/2022 09:49

Once a week. Sometimes more if we can't be arsed to cook.

morechocolateneededtoday · 11/02/2022 09:50

Maximum 5 times a year, usually with others. Don't particularly enjoy them when it is just us, would prefer to eat out or make the meal myself

mamatro · 11/02/2022 09:51

Twice a week minimum.. we're suckers for takeaway food.. it's our mum and dad treat.. we don't go out out for date nights really so it's our treat.
