How many takeaways?!

I'm wondering if my husband and I are over indulging and it would be good to know if we are normal or not Grin

How many takeaways do you and your DP (not DC) have per week / month? 🤫

OP posts:
Sunsetmom · 12/02/2022 19:38

Twice a week either takeaways or eating out maybe more depending on what we are doing!

1stTimeMama · 12/02/2022 19:40

None really. Maybe twice a year.

Blossom64265 · 12/02/2022 19:42

About once a day, occasionally more often.

Mine at least tend to be very healthy meals so it’s really just the expense. We are wfh and it’s really not that much different than someone who would go to an office and not bring a packed lunch. Sometimes I get so busy that it’s easy to look at my hourly billing rate and the time it would take me to step away from my desk to make something and just pick up my phone and have something delivered so I can keep working.

RockyReef · 12/02/2022 19:43

Once every 3-6 months. We had one in the late summer and just recently had another. We love a takeaway (including the children) but they are very unhealthy and living out in the countryside we have a good 20 minute drive to go and pick one up, making it a PITA frankly.

felulageller · 12/02/2022 19:51

If it was up to me I'd never have one again. I don't see the point. Unhealthy. You don't know how many calories/ fat is in it but it's probably huge. Usually greasy. Always leftovers which makes me feel guilty about food waste. Loads of packaging which again makes me feel guilty and fills the bin so is a hassle! Very expensive! Pressure to buy more through 'deals'. Quality is much lower than supermarkets. Unpredictable about when it will arrive. Making a phonecall/ using an app - I find both very stressful.

But to answer to op we get one every couple of months because the DC's make us feel like we're depriving them if we don't.

mumeeee · 12/02/2022 19:58

In lock down we had takeaway once a week.
About once a month again now

Londoncallingme · 12/02/2022 19:59

Always once a week, sometimes twice. I’d say 6 a month.

sanbeiji · 12/02/2022 20:02

Not even pretending to be an AIBU anymore are we Grin
Used to be twice a week at LEAST (one for dinner, one lunch from lovely cafe next door).
I'm getting underwhelmed, and going out more nw though so I'll probably cut them out. DP can still have his

Islandgirl68 · 12/02/2022 20:04

Very occasionally, it is a treat for us.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 12/02/2022 20:06

None.

Maybe once every two years.

tiredanddangerous · 12/02/2022 20:25

Generally once a week but sometimes we go on a health kick and stick to once a month for a bit. We've been having too many lately.

Merryweather80 · 12/02/2022 21:03

In the last 5 years none. I think we have had 2-3 Mac Donald’s a year and 2 meals out per year. We just can’t afford it plus usually someone complains. I’d rather cook and everyone eats it. But that’s us. Very unusual I guess.

CustardySergeant · 12/02/2022 21:09

We've only had a takeaway a handful of times since we've been together which is 44 years, so I suppose that's roughly one every 10 years! Grin

Chickychoccyegg · 12/02/2022 21:14

We have loads, not always unhealthy ones, although mostly, 2-3 times a week, occasionally more at the weekend, inbetween I cook everything fresh to compensate Smile

CustardySergeant · 12/02/2022 21:14

"About once a day, occasionally more often."

Shock Good grief! That's the other extreme compared to my total of about 5 in 44 years! Incidentally, the ones we've had have been Chinese takeaways with the single exception of one Indian. I've never had a McDonalds/Burger King/KFC in my life. It just doesn't appeal to me.

Sosigsandwich · 12/02/2022 21:14

Once a month... Pay day treat was our resolution. We used to get them much more frequently but really trying to make more health conscious decisions. Left to it we could easily get 3 a week... Love a take away!

CustardySergeant · 12/02/2022 21:16

Blossom64265 I'm curious. What are the "very healthy" takeaways you have? Do you live in London or another big city where you can order from restaurants for home delivery?

caringcarer · 12/02/2022 21:18

We have one family takeaway usually Chinese each week. DH and I'll go put to eat on once a week plus I eat out on a Sunday pub meal as o have to drop a child at cricket for 2 hours and collect and it is 40 mins from home so better to drop kid off, pop into get a pub meal then collect than sit in car park for 2 hours.

Rightsraptor · 12/02/2022 21:38

Once a year, only when visitors are here. They're expensive and bad for you. Make you fat.

ShallWeTalkAboutBruno · 12/02/2022 21:42

I have one a month and have a BMI of 20 🤷🏻‍♀️
ShallWeTalkAboutBruno · 12/02/2022 21:44

And no food ‘makes you fat’. Eating an excess of food makes you fat. You could have 5 takeaways a week and be a healthy weight, as long as your overall calorie intake is within your limits.

Icantremembermyusername · 12/02/2022 21:44

Single parent here. We have an extra large chicken kebab once a month and thoroughly enjoy every mouthful!
Drive through McDo if I'm really tired after work.
Occasionally have a curry if friends are over. Don't order Indian/Chinese unless we have company because there is always too much which can't be frozen for later - if I have takeaway I want to eat it all!

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 12/02/2022 21:48

Maybe one a month on average. Plus maybe once or twice a month coffee and cake or lunch in a coffee shop.

AnnieSnap · 12/02/2022 22:25

We don’t have any. My DH is an amazing cook and takeaways taste too processed/synthetic to us because we’re used to meals freshly made with fresh ingredients. That said, we’re retired and he has the time to indulge us. In my previous marriage, with two careers and young kids, we probably had takeaways twice a week 😳

tinkywinkyshandbag · 12/02/2022 22:26

Yes maybe 4 or 5 times a year for birthdays etc - too expensive! And usually greasy and unhealthy.
