How many takeaways?!

I'm wondering if my husband and I are over indulging and it would be good to know if we are normal or not Grin

How many takeaways do you and your DP (not DC) have per week / month? 🤫

'I'd rather pay £3-5 for a Crosta mollica frozen pizza, or supermarket curry and heat it up myself rather than 2-3 times that for a takeaway I don't enjoy.'

See I thought to myself the other day, I'll save some money and get a Chinese ready meal from M&S instead of a takeaway tonight. When I looked at them though the portions were stingy and they were like £4.50 each for just a main which is not much cheaper than my local Chinese which is about £6.50 for a main + side. So I decided just to get a Chinese. I do love a Chinese though.

Having said that I'm sure ready meals are cheaper everywhere else... I nearly fainted at the cost of M&S food the other day. Haven't been in a while, didn't buy much. Back to Lidl, Home Bargains and Tesco for me Blush

AlmostAJillSandwich · 11/02/2022 22:30

At the moment i'm not having them at all, trying to avoid unneccessary spending due to a years worth of underestimated electricity bills meaning my previous £200 a quater bill is now £200 a month, and will rise in april, plus my 0% interest period credit card ends in June, and i need to find £1k to pay it off by then!
On the plus side, not buying treats in my shopping either just essentials has meant i've lost a stone in a month, but i need to realistically lose another 5, silver linings and all that.

ApricotPeony · 11/02/2022 22:33

In the lockdowns once a week as needed a treat. Normally once or twice a month

RoseMartha · 11/02/2022 22:54

I have none

When I was married we had none on an average month. But perhaps three over the whole year.

Mybumlooksbig · 11/02/2022 23:04

Every Saturday.

Occasionally mid week if I can't be arsed to cook too...

Once every six to eight weeks.

longcoffeebreak · 11/02/2022 23:24

Once a year perhaps, although I do spend a lot of money in the supermarket on good ingredients and produce.

I do hope you went to bed feeling superior to us MSG addicts Hmm
PyongyangKipperbang · 11/02/2022 23:33

Although you should know that any decent cook would source local ethical produce from a farm shop, not from a Shock supermarket, especially when their "fresh" produce has been sat in a warehouse for best part of a month.

HeyRememberThatTime · 11/02/2022 23:52

Every 2 or 3 weeks

flashy44 · 12/02/2022 00:00

Every Sat to have a break from cooking.

silentpool · 12/02/2022 00:04

Never, I make all my own food. I eat out occasionally or might get an icecream etc but no takeaways.

WeasilyPleased · 12/02/2022 00:13

My dbil has learning difficulties and loves his Takeaway Tuesdays so at least once a week 😳

cherish123 · 12/02/2022 00:21

Once or twice per year.

PyongyangKipperbang · 12/02/2022 01:52

Oh Holier Than Thou

TheCatterall · 12/02/2022 02:51

One or two a month? But I will often go through a month with no takeaways.

FluffyBooBoo · 12/02/2022 08:39

@MrsJBaptiste

It makes me laugh when people say why bother as ypu can make something nicer at home 😂 The point of a takeaway is that all you need to do is answer the door and wash the plates afterwards. No cooking required!!!

Which is just as well as I'm not great and bloody hate cooking... 😣

I rarely bother with takeaways, because they are generally not that good, and yes, I can do better, cheaper at home. Why pay a lot of money for mediocre food?

I eat out way more often than getting takeaway, because I get food that costs about the same, but it's much nicer.

Erictheavocado · 12/02/2022 08:56

We have great takeaways within walking distance but only order rarely - dh is diabetic so has to be really careful about carbs as he really doesn't want to go on medication if possible. Last had a takeaway almost 3 years ago. We are planning to have one soon as we have several 'big' family birthdays in the first half of this year and a takeaway is a rare treat for us all.

Lovelydovey · 12/02/2022 08:58

Less than once a month. We eat less than once a month too.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 12/02/2022 08:59

Less than once a month. We had fish and chips last night, first time we've had takeaway in three months.

We would rather go out.

zingally · 12/02/2022 09:49

Maybe 3 times a year? And it's just fish and chips, nothing fancy or expensive. Can't justify spending half my weekly food shop on a pretty-average pizza.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 12/02/2022 09:57

Depends on how busy/lazy we are. Could be a couple of times a week or less than once a month.
I'm much more likely to suggest one than my DP though. We can't get anything delivered so my DP has to collect and he finds it a pain as parking isn't easy to find.

We don't spend a lot though as we share meals usually rather than have something each. On the rare occasions we splash out it's still less than £20.

Flatandhappy · 12/02/2022 10:25

We usually eat out 1-2 times a week so rarely get takeaway but when in lockdown we had takeaway 1-2 times a week instead. The fact that so many restaurants here (Aus) are byo wine/beer makes the cost difference between eating out and takeaway much less than in the UK.

RupertOscar1999 · 12/02/2022 10:48

At least once a week.
