I've no idea what's going on , despite googling.
but they sound like fishwives dressed in haute couture.
They're both footballers' wives.
Someone was leaking stories about Rooney to the press. To discover who it was, she set up a sting on her private Instagram, posting false stories and restricting which accounts could view them, and monitoring which ones appeared in the Sun. Eventually, she found that the ones being leaked had been viewed by only Rebekah Vardy’s account.
She announced her sting and the results publicly in October 2019: twitter.com/ColeenRoo/status/1181864136155828224?s=20&t=mSK_wcgYeo61NI5b20LO2A
It seemed obvious that Vardy must have done it.
Presumably she made reference to Vardy’s account, rather than Vardy herself, to escape a libel claim. That didn't work; Vardy at first claimed her account was hacked and then that any leaks would have come from an aide who had access, not Vardy herself. Then she launched a libel case against Rooney.
A hearing was held about a year or so ago to determine whether Rooney had accused Vardy personally. The judge ruled that she had, because of the wording of the tweet (she refers to "someone" and "an individual") and the fact that anyone reading it would take it as an accusation against Vardy personally, because it so clearly is.
That meant that to defend herself, Rooney was going to have to find a way to prove that Vardy herself personally leaked the stories and not any aides who had access to the account, or just anyone to whom she might have mentioned the posts.
So then it started looking as though Rooney was going to have to get out her cheque book.
But now we have this glorious fiasco in which Vardy and her agent have coincidentally lost all the data they were ordered to surrender to the court, so that even an IT expert couldn't retrieve it and described the loss as "surprising" and "unusual". God knows what's going to happen now.
I'm loving it.
