To ask what you’re doing awake post-midnight? Part 2: Insomnia Strikes Back

5YearsLeft · 05/02/2022 11:24

Bit awkward to start this in the middle of the day, but I wanted to be able to link it on the old thread before it completely fills. Meanwhile, even though right now it’s not post-midnight, if you’re having a day-after hangover from insomnia, feel free to post. Whether it’s from poorly children or babies or pets or OHs, whether it’s grief or fear or anxiety or other losses, whether it’s work stress or home stress or just LIFE stress, we get it. You’re not yelling into the void; you’re sharing with people who have been stuck wide awake, too.

Prolapsed mum had triplets. Very bad birth (as expected) only one survivor but that's more than we hoped for. The baby had a king hot birth to bring her temp up and then a stint in the aga.

Photo 2 is our 3 at old who is charming. Mum still totally wild. They went out today for the first time.

Photo 3 - 5 mums and their lambs.

Wallywobbles · 20/02/2022 21:27

Long hot bath even. Three day old.

Tallisimo · 21/02/2022 00:34

@Wallywobbles sorry about the problematic birth, glad one lamb made it. By the way, I’ve checked and there are rams in my bedding as well as sheep!

@5YearsLeft your comments about my sciatica made me laugh 😂

Have just come to bed … we shall see if sleep is to be had …

MrsGlum · 21/02/2022 00:54

Had a terrible day today after literally no sleep last night. Lots of howling regret about going onto the Mirtazapine and panic about whether I will ever get through this withdrawal and be me again. My family need and miss me.
I actually managed to fall asleep naturally at 10:30pm but this bastard drug woke me up at 12:30am with my heart pounding.
I’ve hard to give in and take a sleeping tablet. You’ll know within around 30mins if it’s worked…🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻😴

Quirkyme · 21/02/2022 01:16

Thinking how nice it would be to have a lover to give me a head massage regularly instead of having to book appointments at the spa to receive a head massage.

Lol. Watching asmr head massage vids that make my scalp tingle but also help me sleep.

Head massages are just bliss.

5YearsLeft · 21/02/2022 01:26

Hello all and welcome to a slightly late opening of the After midnight thread because I was… asleep! Ha! SURPRISE! Of course, now I’m not. Dammit. Up and making some tea for a massive sore throat.

The weekend is over which means tomorrow, or rather now, Monday is upon us again. Whatever it is that keeps you awake, you’re welcome to share here. Everything seems worse when you’re alone and sleepless at night and we aim make it all feel a little less awful.

That’s a lovely post OP 😊

My little girl has been sick and I’m an emetophobe with my husband working away so feel quite proud of myself for dealing calmly with it!
When will you drop off do you think?

5YearsLeft · 21/02/2022 01:50

@wallywobbles So sorry about the bad birth and the triplets! But the lamb is adorable, and I assume the aga is the warming oven?

@Tallisimo Ah, I do hope maybe sleep finds you tonight!

@MrsGlum I’m so sorry you’re having such a terrible night/day of it. I’m sure you hate to take the sleeping tablet, I understand, but I do hope that it worked, because all of it plus no sleep or any kind is even harder.

@Quirkyme I mean, obviously you’re not alone in feeling that way or the videos wouldn’t exist and have so many people watching them Grin I’m glad they help you some with sleep!

I am here and not sleeping because I am feeling terribly stressed about.... throwing my daughter's 5th birthday party. I've never held a kids party before and the idea of occupying 15 5 year olds in my house for 2 hours is literally making me sick with worry. I know I'm being ridiculous about it and it's just a party but I can't stop. Argh. Stupid brain.

SpringTime2020 · 21/02/2022 02:01

My body likes to revert to staying up all night if I don't follow a very strict routine. I'm off for half term so of course my body does this to me. The worst thing is it happens to my DC too! They're not back at school til Tuesday but been desperately trying to get them to sleep earlier last night and tonight!

I think our sleep problems are to do with being autistic! It happens every holiday!! Hmm

LightfoldEngines · 21/02/2022 02:01

Under a huge amount of stress right now. I take some heavy duty meds prescribed by my Psych but they’re not working as well as they usually do.

So I’m MN-ing and playing Sims 4 Smile

This always stresses me out too. But I assume you've not had any experience because of Covid. Honestly, it will be fine! Let them play with balloons, musical bumps and jelly and ice cream and the time will fly! They'll have so much fun! Then pass out the party bags and they'll happily go home. You'll be running round like a loony but it makes the time pass quickly!

Love Sims 😀 I'm out of routine and taking my meds later (not even taken them yet) and they don't seem to work so quickly either! Although they knocked me out on Sat morning eventually, so well I slept through my alarm!

@1AngelicFruitCake That’s very brave of you! Emetophobia is no joke at all, and can be quite debilitating. I’ve always been scared of being sick, but then I got seriously ill, and… yes. I’m still terrible at it, but at least now I don’t have a panic attack every time I’m sick. And I can undersransbd that sometimes it’s a matter of bigger fears, like the fear of not being there to support someone you love, versus your own phobia. BUT I do hope your daughter is better so you don’t have to deal with it anymore, or at least she isn’t sick anymore until DH gets home, and you and she both get some sleep. I managed to sleep for a few hours but now up with a sore throat and making some tea. Can’t win them all!

@DyingForACuppa That’s not ridiculous at all! Of course you’re worried. It’s something you’ve never done before, that’s a lot of kids, and all the planning may feel overwhelming if you‘be never done it before. But you’ll probably discover in the day, that as long as the wee beasties all have each other and they can throw cake at each other, they don’t much care about adults. You can do this!!!!

@SpringTime2020 How annoying, to have your body just change things on you! But I do understand; I think my DH does it to himself every single weekend, though maybe much less than the extent you’re going through. I do hope maybe you and all the DCs can find some rest!

@LightfoldEngines I’m so sorry the meds aren’t working the way they normally do! It’s annoying when we’re already dealing with enough. Especially when you need them to alleviate the stress of all that you’re going through. I do hope maybe you can call the doctor tomorrow and tell him or her they’re not working, so you can get some help and some rest.

It's my own fault but I just want a break from the strict routine sometimes! I do it to a lesser extent at the weekend. Monday's are always a bit difficult!

1AngelicFruitCake · 21/02/2022 02:39

Thank you 5yearsleft I think I wrote on a late night thread a month or so ago and you were very reassuring. I’m struggling to remain calm 🙄 she keeps saying she feels sick again but she’s not been sick for 3 hours so I’m hoping that’s it. I won’t be seeing my husband until he’s back from working away on Wednesday (unless I need him to come back before then which I won’t) he always says I can phone him in the night but if I’m panicking but I’d rather not as he’ll worry about us.
Everything seems worse at night! I hope you get some sleep soon x

Amigoingmad29weeks · 21/02/2022 02:44

I'm awake cos I'm nearly 39 weeks pregnant and paranoid about my baby's movements. Can feel him squirming about a bit but can't shake the feeling that they've changed in the last day or so. Somehow less strong and possibly happening less. Or I'm just noticing them less. Overthinking probably cos my previous birth was preterm and I didn't expect to get this far....

SpringTime2020 · 21/02/2022 02:44

@1AngelicFruitCake Everything really does seem worse at night! I have been through periods of time where I would literally feel sick every afternoon at the thought of night approaching.l hope your little girl is better Flowers

If you’re worried contact the labour ward. Hope you’re ok x
5YearsLeft · 21/02/2022 02:47

@SpringTime2020 That makes perfect sense! But then Mondays roll around… I think we should just blame the Mondays.

@1AngelicFruitCake Oh gosh, that really is tough. I’m glad you came back to the thread, though, if you need support! Yes, worries are definitely bigger at night. It’s as if there’s more room in your head for them to take up. And I can absolutely understand not wanting to wake your DH up even though he said it’s always fine. I’ll keep my fingers as crossed as possible that your DD will now just stay asleep for the night.

Thank you 😄 I’ve got a tight feeling in my chest and just feel so panicked. Working through all the bedding im washing and counting down hours until daytime. How come you’re awake? X

Thank you so much 😊 your words are really helping. She’s still awake, watching Netflix and saying she can’t sleep😄

I hope you get to sleep soon OP. What do you do when you can’t sleep?

MrsGlum · 21/02/2022 02:54

@5YearsLeft well here I am again! I took 1/2 the sleeping tablet in the hopes of getting a few good hours but I’ve been woken up by my heart ponding out of my chest. I will have to take a beta blocker to slow it down and then take the other half tablet.
The AD medication is causing all of this even though it’s out of my system over a month ago. It’s ruining my life - I wish I had never started on it Sad

DrMadelineMaxwell · 21/02/2022 02:54

I'm up because I am so full of cold I cannot sleep. Streaming nose and sneezes. Really sore and red face from much nose blowing. I have rescheduled tomorrows half term plans and plan to catch up on some sleep later in the morning. Thank god I'm on half term and 17yo dd is happy to chill with the cat.
