Have rearranged Dp's now that I've moved in, words have been said, so what's the verdict?

I must be a right weirdo...

Sharp small knives on the slot on the right, Teaspoons in the small slot to the inside of that.
Then HORIZONTALLY from front to back - dessert spoons and latte spoons, then forks, then knives.
The longer slot at the back has the bread knife, tin opener and a few other bits.

Cutlery drawer has four vertical compartments and one horizontal. Order is: Knives, forks, spoons, big serving spoons, teaspoons underneath in the horizontal compartment. Any other way is just wrong and when I stayed with a friend who does spoons, forks, knives, I found it ridiculously unsettling.

DeathMetalMum · 05/02/2022 17:04

L-R Spoons, knives forks.
Teaspoons in the bottom bit nearest the front of the drawer.

Hankunamatata · 05/02/2022 17:06

Knife, fork, big spoons, tea spoons

Pinkginlover · 05/02/2022 17:10

L-R wooden spoons,soup spoons,desert spoons,knives then forks.
Teaspoons go in the horizontal part at the bottom.
Doesn't bother me how the cutlery tray is laid out as long as each compartment contains all of the same item ie,all forks together and so on.

@Kite22

To the people doing it forks, knives, spoons (my way, the right way!) have you worked in catering or had parents that taught you the right way worked in catering?

No, it's just common sense, or logic if you like to naturally want to pick up the piece of cutlery you are laying to the left of the place setting / mat / plate, in your left hand.
The other way makes no sense at all.

Well yes, I assumed it was logical too, but as the daughter of restaurateurs and then working in the industry myself its all I've ever known, so to come here and see people pretending its fully normal to do it a different way blows my mind!
TabithaTiger · 05/02/2022 18:08

Left - right spoons, forks, knives

LethargeMarg · 05/02/2022 18:18

From left to right:
Spoons, forks, knives
Teaspoons in horizontal bit at the front
Knives forks spoons seems totally wrong to me

Fifthtimelucky · 05/02/2022 18:40

It's much easier if forks are left of the knives because when you are laying the table you can grab a handful of forks with your left hand and a handful of knives in your right hand and put them in their right places on the table at the same time.

I think it's more logical for spoons to be on the right too because if you lay them the usual way, with the handle on the right, they are easier to lay with your right hand.

So I agree with the forks, knives, spoons order (assuming L-R).

Those who eat left-handed might prefer to have things the other way round of course.

AAAAAGHH · 05/02/2022 18:41

From the left - knives, forks, spoons, teaspoons

ChoiceMummy · 05/02/2022 18:55

@Saisong

Not this again.

It goes Knives, Forks, Spoons.

End of.

How bizarre!

Surely it should go how the table would be laid? Fork, knife, spoon.

In what order do you have your cutlery drawer?
Looubylou · 05/02/2022 21:08

Spoons, forks, knives, big knives, teaspoons at the bottom. Serving spoons etc are in a caddy on the bench.

SweetPotatoDumpling · 05/02/2022 21:16

It's knives, forks, spoons!

Isn't that the 'unspoken rule'?? 🤣

(Anything is is JUST WRONG 😆😆)

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 05/02/2022 21:21

In the first drawer I have a cutlery tray with knives forks spoons, right to left. There is a horizontal tray with only two spaces in and the small knives and forks go in there
In the bigger space at the side of the tray there's the measuring spoons, the metal measuring cups and the spare heart shaped set. Sugar thermometer and pokey temperature probe thing
There is a pile of crap at the back that I never look at.

In the second drawer it's another cutlery doodah that matches the first with the sundae spoons, the soup spoons, the serving spoons and the shitty teaspoons that never get used. Plus numerous wine things, cork screws, stoppers, wine charms, piping bags, nozzles
Again, more crap at the back . The good teaspoons live in an old treacle tin in the cupboard over the kettle.

In the third drawer it's everything else, no tray but I have used a lot of old ferrero rocher boxes to keep it all corralled ...spare wine things, plastic clips, cocktail straws, picnic things, wooden skewers....basically all the crap that would not fit behind the cutlery trays in the other two drawers. :o
