Have rearranged Dp's now that I've moved in, words have been said, so what's the verdict?

OP posts:

Left to right - scissors, tea spoons, dessert spoons, forks, knives, sharp knives and the first little horizontal one at the top has toddler cutlery and the one above that has table spoons, bottle openers and nutcrackers.

I have two drawers set aside for cutlery Grin

Standard is
L:R
Big serving spoons / Cake Slice / Small Ladle/Slotted spoon, /olive spoon . Knives , Forks, Dessert spoons , Soup spoons , Teaspoons at the bottom

Random is
L:R
Sharp knives/graters , Latte spoons , Sporks/Cake Forks . Jam spoons/Egg spoons/Yoghurt spoons , Butter snives , Random Teaspoons

I like cutlery Grin

PrettyBluebells · 05/02/2022 00:55

The way they would be set in a table serving. L-R forks, knives, spoons

johnd2 · 05/02/2022 00:58

Best thread on the site! The simple answer is left spoons, middle forks and right knives, to match your hands when setting the table.
The full story is ours is random tin openers and corkscrews in the big left section, then big spoons, forks, knives, chopsticks. Then the top middle section is tea spoons and the top section on the right i forgot, i think it's still got all the plastic baby cutlery that we never use!
When i was growing up it was a cutlery box thing with a lid and that was soup spoons and tea spoons and random stuff on the left, then small cutlery (for kids), then spoons then forks then knives.

PurplePansy05 · 05/02/2022 00:59

Bigger stuff (like tin openers, cheese cutters etc)
Table spoons
Soup spoons
Forks
Knives
More of the bigger stuff (miscellaneous)
Then the bottom of it are:
Teaspoons
Cake forks.

We need a diagram for this Grin

SenecaFallsRedux · 05/02/2022 01:03

Teaspoons, dinner forks, salad/dessert forks, soup spoons, knives

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2022 01:06

The simple answer is left spoons, middle forks and right knives, to match your hands when setting the table.

That implies you have 3 hands, and/or you use the spoon in your left hand.Grin

PurplePansy05 · 05/02/2022 01:09

OP, starting with knives is pure insanity. So is rearranging someone's cutlery drawer, how annoying. HTH

loveyouradvice · 05/02/2022 01:25

heavens.... why does almost no one do it like the table setting?

From left... forks, spoons, knife.... just seems so obvious....

though clearly not!!!! (smile)

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 05/02/2022 01:29

Hurrah!

I thought I was the only one loveyouradvice 😉

Anystarinthesky · 05/02/2022 01:38

Spoons, forks, knives, teaspoons at the bottom.

CharlotteFlax · 05/02/2022 01:41

To the people doing it forks, knives, spoons (my way, the right way!) have you worked in catering or had parents that taught you the right way worked in catering?

Iwannabewherethepeopleare · 05/02/2022 01:46

I lay the table, fork, knife, then spoon at top so my drawer is forks, knives, spoons

notangelinajolie · 05/02/2022 01:48

Knives forks spoons.

Missey85 · 05/02/2022 02:18

I lost the cutlery tray so its just randomly thrown in the drawer Smile I do keep my fancy chef knives separate though

frenchfancy81 · 05/02/2022 02:19

Forks
Spoons
Knives

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 05/02/2022 02:26

Spoons, forks, knives & teaspoons horizontal.

Chichimcgee · 05/02/2022 02:29

@frenchfancy81

Savage.

DdraigGoch · 05/02/2022 02:34

I just throw it all in together. I like living dangerously.

Redglitter · 05/02/2022 02:35

Forks knives spoons. The only way that makes sense

sashh · 05/02/2022 03:09

Forks have to be in the middle because they are used mainly with knives but can also be used with spoons.

poons and forks to the sides of the knives

Far right slot has kitchen knives, sharpening steel etc.

I have 2 bottom slots, one has teaspoons the other fish knives and forks and steak knives and chopsticks.

WaitingInForAParcel · 05/02/2022 03:16

Spoons knives forks from front to back. Teaspoons in a completely different drawer (with cooking utensils) near kettle.
My brother says I'm the only person he's ever known who doesn't go knives forks spoons.

DoYouSeaWhatISea · 05/02/2022 03:30

@TiredSloth

Ok I’m completely different- Spoons, forks, knives. I can’t do it any other way! We eat with forks in our left hands and knives in our right so to put them the other way round in the cutlery drawer makes me feel irrationally angry and muddled. It’s back to front.
This is the way!
FleeceNavidadFromTheSheep · 05/02/2022 03:41

spoons forks knives
Teaspoons at the bottom.

Obviously Hmm

FranklySonImTheGaffer · 05/02/2022 03:43

I love random threads like this 😂

In our house, from left to write we have forks, knives, big spoons then little spoons, and the horizontal bit at the front houses metal straws.logic (if you can call it that) is that forks go on the left when you lay the table so they're on the left in the drawer.
