Have rearranged Dp's now that I've moved in, words have been said, so what's the verdict?

Drawer in the dining table goes Forks, knives, dessert spoons, fancy teaspoons.
Kitchen draw gets forks and spoons for cooking, butter knives and crap(are well used) teaspoons all in one little section of the tray.

JaceLancs · 05/02/2022 10:33

Starting at bottom
Knives
Forks
Spoons
Big section at back for things like serving spoons
Teaspoons have their own small section at the side
Then there’s a sliding top layer which has oddments like grapefruit spoons and potato peelers

Chloemol · 05/02/2022 11:12

Left to right, so pens forks, knives with teaspoons in the small holder

Chloemol · 05/02/2022 11:12

Spoons not pens

SatinHeart · 05/02/2022 11:50

@SheldonesqueTheBstard

Fork. Spoon. Knife.

It is the future.

Me too!

The same as how you lay a table setting. It's obvious really Grin

Snugglepumpkin · 05/02/2022 11:59

Dinner fork, dessert fork, fish fork, cake fork, dinner knife, dessert knife, fish knife, steak knife, soup spoon, dessert spoon across the drawer with tea, coffee & other little spoons at the bottom & serving spoons, tongs, cake slice etc.. in a longer section beside them.
Random box at the back for weird cutlery we basically never use.

hibeat · 05/02/2022 12:30

@AutumnLeavesEverywhere

Knives, forks, spoons, with teaspoons in the horizontal slot above them
this
CrunchyCarrot · 05/02/2022 12:31

spoons, knives and forks together, sharp knives, then in the horizontal slot, small spoons. On the side, assorted wooden spoons, tin opener, etc. Very crowded drawer but it works!

Isseywith3witchycats · 05/02/2022 12:34

Bog standard Knives Forks Spoons tea spoons at the front in the smaller slot, veg and small chefs knives in the full length slot on the end

johnd2 · 05/02/2022 12:52

@ErrolTheDragon

The simple answer is left spoons, middle forks and right knives, to match your hands when setting the table.

That implies you have 3 hands, and/or you use the spoon in your left hand.Grin

3 hands would be nice although difficult to get clothes to fit! I can claim your second point though as I'm left handed Grin
ISmellBurnings · 05/02/2022 12:53

Forks, knives, spoons. Tea spoons live behind as that’s where there is room.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 05/02/2022 12:56

The very first thread I ever posted on back in 2009 was

Knives Forks Spoons

Have I come full circle?

johnd2 · 05/02/2022 13:00

I've also just realised that we have 7 different types of spoons. Which is clearly unreasonable as we use all of them somehow.
Baby spoons
Toddler teaspoons and normal spoons
Adult teaspoons and normal spoons
Those long handle spoons for some kind of I've cream
Some cheap teaspoons we bought for the builders and we still use them for tea.

That's not even getting into the cupping spoon and a weird one that has auro gellar style kink in it. Clearly we need a thread for how many types of spoons.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/02/2022 13:21

MoreThanJustANumber that cutlery drawer is a thing of beauty , I have some of the jam spoons like yours ( the flute-y spaped bowl )
But your teaspoons aren't all facing the same way and you should sit down and have a hard think about your standards here !
Wink

steff13 · 05/02/2022 13:35

Knives, forks, spoons. But there's an organizer in the drawer, and that's the order they're in in the organizer.

thesnailandthewhale · 05/02/2022 13:39

Mine is all chucked in together Blush. In my defence it is a narrow drawer and I can't fit a tray thing in there.

GTAlogic · 05/02/2022 14:05

Ours is big spoons and steak knives, then butter or table knives, then forks. Teaspoons at the bottom. Absolutely everything else is around the outside edge of the organiser.

ihaveonecat · 05/02/2022 14:48

@CharlotteFlax

To the people doing it forks, knives, spoons (my way, the right way!) have you worked in catering or had parents that taught you the right way worked in catering?
Ah. I grew up in pubs and restaurants and worked in them too.... maybe that's why I do that order then!

Oh no! You're right. I'm so sorry! I'll have to go and rearrange. Smile
Doggydreaming · 05/02/2022 14:55

The correct way: Left to right - Forks, knives, big spoons, with little spoons horizontally.

ihaveonecat · 05/02/2022 15:02

@CharlotteFlax having questioned my (bemused) dad via text (45 years in the pub trade) he has replied

Forks in left knives to the right of forks as you would eat usually
a small space for tea spoons and sharp knives to one side so you don’t catch yourself when picking up everyday items spoons wherever

Derrymum123 · 05/02/2022 15:28

Spoons , forks, knives(L-R) then teaspoons at front. Mostly left handed in our house but any other way is just wrong for my brain to adjust to.

Kite22 · 05/02/2022 16:40

No, it's just common sense, or logic if you like to naturally want to pick up the piece of cutlery you are laying to the left of the place setting / mat / plate, in your left hand.
The other way makes no sense at all.
