Didn’t Trump use the same excuse about his tax returns?

cakeorwine · 09/02/2022 22:19

I wonder if sheep theft counts as crime nowadays. I guess if it's going up, it doesn't count but if it's going down , then it does count and can be heralded as a success.

I can't understand a mind like yours. Some people who steal sheep kill them, behead them and skin them on the field. No doubt that's hilarious to you. All because I dared to question people on this thread.
derxa · 09/02/2022 22:29

@Scrowy There's people on this thread who think sheep stealing and sheep worrying are hilarious.

Or maybe you can see the point I was making about crime at the moment and Johnson's loose approach to the truth.

If you are referring to me, I think you might find there's no truth in that.
You seem to have the same attitude to facts as Johnson.

Johnson's a liar and you are nasty and making light of animal suffering.

I asked if sheep crime was up.

Can you explain how that is making light of animal suffering?

Scrowy · 09/02/2022 22:56

Sheep Crime - not funny
Cat Crime - not funny
Johnson being prime minister - not funny

being tagged in a political thread just because sheep are mentioned - reasonably funny.

Perhaps I've had a glass of wine too many (I'm doing dry lambing time this year so doing drunk February to make up for it) but I read it that cakeorwine was trying to make a point that people only talk about rural crime when they don't actually have to do something about it.

The point either way is that Derxa pissed up on sherry wasn't at any point during lock down rules making the law, partying on tax payers money (although that is a grey area what with subs etc I suppose) or posing with tinsel. She's also not a naughty naughty liar and has totally fessed up to her imaginary sherry crimes with her imaginary crim friends.

She probably has better hair too.

Anyway, in terms of light entertainment for the thread, seems like the PM is struggling to get junior lackeys

I was just trying to make a point about Johnson's loose approach to the truth. Crime is up. But he said it was down. Because fraud and computer misuse crime doesn't count.

Sheep crime is not funny. Fraud is not funny.

I could have mentioned ANY crime in my post and that would not mean that because I mentioned it, I found it hilarious.

It's not hilarious that we have a Prime Minister who lies repeatedly and whose Ministers have to defend these lies on the media everyday.

ClaudineClare · 09/02/2022 23:08

I did not read cakeorwine's post as laughing at sheep crime. Cake was using it as an example of what a bunch of liars are currently in charge.

Grin Thanks for responding. And what the hell's dry lambing???? We start late Feb/ early March and yes I've had a few wines. Cheers!!!!!
ClaudineClare · 09/02/2022 23:17

Also curious about dry lambing...

countrygirl99 · 10/02/2022 04:42

I think dry lambing is just a different time frame to dry January

Have you never tried it? You really should.

I understand it is sometimes part of the Bullingdon Club initiation ceremony, does one have to burn a 50 pound note first though I wonder.

Seems to be infectious, its almost as if there is a pandemic of lies going on at the moment.

I thought the point of the sheep reference was crime matters and that individuals often don’t make good decisions about when laws are important.

I don’t think anyone was making light of sheep being harmed.

All crimes matter.

Not just some crimes.

BoodyDedalus · 10/02/2022 07:56

Fascinating though sheep and Partygate may be, I am much more concerned that Boris has still not done anything about Putin's dirty money being laundered through London, and the fact that a number of virologists have said in the last 24 hours that ending all restrictions this month would be too soon and too drastic, and that the government are clearly no longer following the science. (I note that Sirs Willey and Valance are being kept stum)..

It received little publicity, but those who imagine Covid is all over now should note yesterday's publication of data by the ONS that 44,000 2- to 11-year-olds in the country are believed to have long COVID, as are 73,000 12- to 16-year-olds - with symptoms such as brain fog and extreme lethargy that can often last for months.

Furthermore, there was nothing from Johnson yesterday about plans for tackling the next variant of Coronavirus, which the WHO has warned could be worse than any variant that we have yet seen.

Notonthestairs · 10/02/2022 08:09

You see to think the Tory factions, party gate and Covid restrictions are separate issues.

They aren't.

Johnson needs to shore up his position and to do this he will assuage the CRG mob. The CRG have wanted to dump restrictions for months and now they have him over a barrel. Look at the people he's brought in to the fold this week.

Plus Johnson breaking over his own public health legislation means he's got zero means to enforce or reintroduce new restrictions or even maintain current light touch ones.

If Downing Street had managed to weather covid without a few parties he wouldn't be in the position he is now.

If a new variant pops up then he'll have to let it run through the population because he won't get anything through the media or Parliament until people are dying in huge numbers.

That's why partygate is important. It's not a bottle of fizz around a zoom call - he's put public health messaging at risk.

I agree on both points.

Distinct lack of scientific advisors explaining the change in policy on Covid.

Very difficult to believe that the U.K. is standing in solidarity against Putin while being a world centre for Russian money laundering.

Notonthestairs:

I must have given the wrong impression if you think that. I agree that they are all manifestations of weak government, but I regard some as more serious than others. Failure to deal with dirty Russian money is removing one of the few levers that the west has over Putin's aggression. Another, worse Covid variant is not a certainty, but it is a possibility that needs a plan. As discussed on R4 a few minutes ago, research has shown that the public health message is principally weakened by replacing law with advice - and by confusing law and advice in the eyes of the public. Parties are good for outrage and for keeping the column inches filled each day.
