What the title says.

This will be the one where he resigns, so if please keep the whatabout to a minimum.

"Thry twist themselves into excruciating knots to defend the Prime Minister . . . " Yes, well said, Matthew Parris, always succinct and to the point.

jgw1 · 09/02/2022 14:17

Beware people are going to get bored stiff of this. Right now people are (rightly) more outraged by a cat being kicked across a room

You are quite right, I am completely bored by Johnson's inability to stick to some simple rules that he introduced.

It appears that Johnson gets bored without alcohol and quizzes.
All of which I am sure you agree suggests he is completely unsuitable to be Prime Minister.

People are perfectly capable of being outraged about more than one thing at a time.
And that photo will outrage many. As will the following ones, no doubt.

Many will be more outraged at the PM breaking rules he made and imposed on the population, fining those who didn't follow them, than they will be at a footballer kicking a cat - because they have no expectations regarding how footballers behave, since they're recruited to play football, not for their brains, ethics or morals, whereas they expect a country's leader to set an example, especially in a time of crisis.

Both are outrageous, don't get me wrong. But they are not comparable.

What does Matthew Parris know? Didn't he used to be an MP and now he is pretending to be a journalist? I shouldn't listen to a word he writes in that left wing rag if I were you.

While we are on the subject of footballers, how is that a footballer knew more about what children needed in a pandemic than the Prime Minister?

@derxa

what would have happened to you & a few of your friends if you'd had drinks and snacks together and then the Police had come round?

This shouldn't be a party political matter, its about what is right n wrong, though there is also the matter of BJ lying to Parliament as he said no parties occurred, no rules were broken & he was extremely angry to hear gatherings may have taken place... without his knowledge.

The laws of the land have to apply to all or none at all, if the powerful can pick n choose which ones they obey, then we may as well have anarchy.

longwayoff · 09/02/2022 14:21

Sorry jgw1 I'll try to mend my ways.

Are you feeling OK @jgw1?

HarrietPierce · 09/02/2022 14:25

Are you feeling OK @jgw1?

I am sure @jgw1is feeling quite OK and quite ironic.

DuncinToffee · 09/02/2022 14:26

jgw1 is channeling her inner squirrel 🐿

Blossomtoes · 09/02/2022 14:27

Sorry, my irony detector malfunctioned for a moment there 🥱

I don't know, jgw1.
You have broken my logicometer there and introduced a degree of subtlety that's beyond the scope of mere mortals.
Apparently.

@HarrietPierce

Are you feeling OK *@jgw1*?

Yes, yes I'm fine.

In the absence of some of the regular nonsense posters, I thought I would try some of my own. I'm sure they will be back on shift soon.

what would have happened to you & a few of your friends if you'd had drinks and snacks together and then the Police had come round? I don't have any friends but if I did it's very unlikely that they'd be interested in some sixty year olds swigging sherry in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere.

So even though it was against the law, its ok because the police aren't that interested in it?

Does that apply to other crimes as well?
Its ok to beat them up, because the police did not step in and stop me at the time?

They were interested in a couple of women having a walk with coffee. And people having Easter eggs in their shopping. I thought the police in Scotland were very avid enforcers.

Does that apply to other crimes as well? Its ok to beat them up, because the police did not step in and stop me at the time? And that's the nub of it. A good deal of the rules were nonsensical. In what world is beating someone up equal to having a drink and doing a zoom quiz. Anyway I want rid of Johnson but not because he socialised with work colleagues.

Blossomtoes · 09/02/2022 14:51

The world in which they’re both crimes.

derxa · 09/02/2022 14:55

We never see hunt nor hare of them here in deepest rural Lanarkshire. This isn't Nicola country

Notonthestairs · 09/02/2022 15:04

It's not simply about him socialising in contravention of his government's emergency public health legislation - he lied through his back teeth about it to Parliament! And all the time there are cases going on (local to my area) of people being prosecuted for similar.

If the rules were nonsensical that is a separate matter - we (and certainly the PM) don't get to pick and choose which we adhere to without consequence.

derxa · 09/02/2022 15:07

Just to be clear, are you agreeing @derxa that other crimes are fine as long as the police don't catch you as well?
