What the title says.

This will be the one where he resigns, so if please keep the whatabout to a minimum.

Boris was obviously stupid to use a smear commonly used by Corbyn supporters.

That doesn't change the fact that neither Boris, nor the Corbynistas who first used the smear against Keir, are responsible for the choices and actions of others.

ClaudineClare · 07/02/2022 23:02

The only time I'd ever heard that smear before was from Corbyn supporting momentum

Tealightsandd are you saying Jeremy Corbyn made the same smear against Starmer? If so, when?

GreenLunchBox · 07/02/2022 23:02

@Tealightsandd

How did Hitler end up convincing people that the Jews should be treated as they were?

It's actually really very offensive to compare a childish insult from either Angela Rayner or Boris Johnson to the Holocaust.

But to answer your question, he didn't. (And also, like I said quite rightly 'I was just following orders' was not an accepted defence for the Nuremberg trials).

Antisemitic racism against Jewish people has a long and disgraceful history. Hitler, in fact, tapped into and used it to further his quest for power.

And also separately, people who did want to speak out were too scared. Justifiably - because dissent was silenced and mob rule was the thing.

Mob attacks against Sir Keir Starmer are not ok. Nor are verbal mob attacks on Angela Rayner or Boris Johnson.

I thought you were 'leaving us to it'? Hmm
ClaudineClare · 07/02/2022 23:04

Oh sorry, you mean supporters of Corbyn not JC himself? Do you have some examples of Corbynistas using the slur @Tealightsandd?

Tealightsandd · 07/02/2022 23:07

@ClaudineClare

I suppose Corbyn is one of his own supporters? You can vote for yourself can't you?

But no, like I said, it's a smear that has been used before by supporters of Corbyn. And to be clear, I don't mean every one of his supporters. I have no idea what Corbyn himself thinks on the matter.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 07/02/2022 23:07

Oh give over @Tealightsandd
Johnson was advised not to use the slur but went ahead and did it. He knows what he’s about.

I don't think it's a binary choice.

I think that although people have free will, it's very easy to manipulate it.

That is why people with large platforms have to be very careful about the language they use.

People who belong to minority groups who are often the target of hate and prejudice are more than aware of the impact of the words and actions of those with large platforms on them.

Not in front of me, no. It's been a thing online for some time (again, not all or even most of his supporters). If you genuinely haven't seen it before, then either believe me or don't. I'm not going to dig around hunting for old links now. It's bedtime.

I've made my point.

I'm off to bed to dream of a (perhaps never possible) less intolerant and partisan better future society.

Goodnight.

Tealightsandd · 07/02/2022 23:17

People who belong to minority groups who are often the target of hate and prejudice are more than aware of the impact of the words and actions of those with large platforms on them.

Indeed. Which is why it's not ok to incite hate. Against Angela Rayner, against Keir Starmer, nor against Boris Johnson.

Tealightsandd · 07/02/2022 23:17

Constructive criticism, now that's fine.

DuncinToffee · 07/02/2022 23:18

Boris was obviously stupid to use a smear

This was a calculated move, nothing stupid about it. He was warned not to use it, he did anyway.

cakeorwine · 07/02/2022 23:19

That doesn't change the fact that neither Boris, nor the Corbynistas who first used the smear against Keir, are responsible for the choices and actions of others

Make your mind up - either we're responsible for our own actions and the words of others have no consequences.

Or it's more complicated

This

And hardly any Cabinet Ministers have mentioned that this was a planned attack before PMQs.

It was not the 'cut and thrust of debate'

It was a calculated dead cat on the table.

Johnson is going to have to think about the political consequences of his behaviour now.

And he is the one responsible.

LakieLady · 07/02/2022 23:29

@merrymouse

Piers Corbyn is supposed to be a liability for Jeremy Corbyn, but I don’t think Jeremy Corbyn ever publicly fed him and his ilk conspiracy theories.
And none of us can choose our siblings, and are not responsible for their behaviour as adults.
Peregrina · 07/02/2022 23:31

I'm off to bed to dream of a (perhaps never possible) less intolerant and partisan better future society.

You (and the rest of us) will have to start actively working towards that end. Doing nothing won't achieve it.

WanJames · 08/02/2022 00:19

I'm up for constructive work on that Smile

I'm too idealistic, I know that, but hope is important to cling on to. Because you never know.

merrymouse · 08/02/2022 06:54

It’s not just a smear. It’s a PM giving weight to a specific conspiracy theory, knowing that people who aren’t able to act responsibly will view this as an endorsement.

jgw1 · 08/02/2022 07:01

@merrymouse

The point I saw online referred to when Angela Rayner was blamed for the murder of Sir David Amess, because she talked of 'Tory scum'.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-59081482

Angela Rayner 'unreservedly' apologises for Conservative 'scum' comments

After Rayner apologised has she been more careful in her use of language? If she has then it would suggest that she is capable of learning from what she has done, which sadly appears to not be the case with Big Baby.
OP posts:
cakeorwine · 08/02/2022 07:31

Johnson doesn't care about his use of 'colourful' language as he has said in the past. He doesn't care about the consequences for people because I don't think he gets it.

Notonthestairs · 08/02/2022 07:32

Chris Mason reporting that Johnson is too busy ("has other stuff to get on with") to retract his statement. What a leader.

Zonder · 08/02/2022 07:34

How long does a 10 second statement take to make?

PMQs will be interesting tomorrow. Again
AdamRyan · 08/02/2022 07:45

So Corbyn is to blame for what Boris said? And disproving of what Boris said on here is going to lead to threats to the prime minister? Is that what you mean tea? ConfusedConfused
