Really ‘I share your pain’! Who is kidding and he knows full well we know how rich they are. His wife is worth 174 million and he is worth a few million himself. This government is disgusting. Slow clap for voting for a bunch of criminals

@AnyFucker

He needs to tone down the smirk. It’s not a good look.
I think it's the "new Tory" look for Spring 2022. Started by the equally ghastly Priti Patel.

You are right Op He really annoyed me
Brainwave89 · 04/02/2022 10:28

Sunak is rich, so what?. He has a reasonably good plan to do what he can to address fuel poverty, but sadly he is right that there are limits on what he can achieve. Any cash he raises has to come from somewhere and UK tax rates are high enough in my opinion.

Lampzade · 04/02/2022 10:33

I will repeat what others have said. Posters are not upset with him because he is minted.
They are pissed off with him because he said that he felt our pain.

Peregrina · 04/02/2022 10:35

The money could come from that awarded fraudulently and written off by him.

The Govt could step in and peg fuel prices - you know, shake that money tree in the direction of the public, rather than their rich mates.

SNUG2022 · 04/02/2022 10:41

I was thinking that his shoes probably cost more than most people's fuel bills. I just can't take it seriously when a multi millionaire talks about paying bills.

(very slow, drawn out delivery)

"We won't be doing that."

Spookytooth · 04/02/2022 10:48

It is such a worrying time and I am sick of these ultra-privileged people pretending they give a shit.

They care about being in power and right now I would say Labour are gaining seats steadily.
I don't hate that theyre so rich - at least they won't need to take financial advantage of the position if he is PM.

the80sweregreat · 04/02/2022 10:52

I really do not envy the money he has and a future leader with an Indian heritage would be a first for the Uk and a positive thing , but just not Rishi Sunak
He doesn't relate to normal people and seems a bit out of touch with how we have to live , one house to live in ( if your lucky to be able to buy that is ) or have to pay rent and how hard it is making the ends meet. It's a struggle and many already work long hours and still can't manage.
How could he have any idea about this ?
I know that most of the Conservative leaders and Tony Blair had privilege, they all have , but they seemed a bit more down to earth too ( or at least pretended to know what it's like)
I can't put my finger on why I don't think he'd be a good leader and I can see through the smugness.
It was Jeremy Corbyn who pointed out that if the vaccines are so profitable why can't that money go back into the economy? Nobody listens to him though.
That was quickly shut down by the health secretary and the same about the energy profits too. Shell made oodles of cash, but they will still put my bills up. No wonder people are angry.
They do not work for us at all, they only value people with money and he is the poster boy for the rich not the ordinary people.

It's a shit plan because people will default on these loans/rebates. It doesn't address the problem for those who already have low incomes, those with higher incomes can redirect funds. Similar to bounce back bollox spouted by the government. No is bouncing back within 12 months. It's the wrong time to be fiscally cautious when a global pandemic has caused basic resources for business and the private consumer to be in short supply. We've had an election, Brexit wrangling, covid, and our own government strangling its citizens fiscally.

The government has a duty of care to its citizens. I think he means well, but the treasury bodies are out of touch with the global and national realities.

They could tax the energy companies as they are doing in France instead of passing on the costs to consumers.
They could introduce a wealth tax, such as Gary Lineker is asking for, even though he would be one of those having to contribute.
I do wish people would stop pretending Sunak has no options. Of course he does. What we are living with is all the consequence of political choices.

Totally agree
JustOneCup · 04/02/2022 11:12

@Corcory

Sunak is the son of an immigrant Doctor and pharmacist. He got a scholarship. So not brought up to 'privilege' He is very bright. I think he meet his wife at Harvard. So she must be bright too. Not her fault she is the daughter of a billionaire.
Yes he must be extremely bright I wonder what attracted him to a billionaire’s daughter ….🤔
tiktokontheclock · 04/02/2022 11:15

Also, I wonder how his wife got in to Harvard 🤨
She's not bright. She's rich. Daddy's rich.

Absolutely fucking this.
the80sweregreat · 04/02/2022 11:22

Rich people telling us to be thrifty.
I don't think this will go well for any of them
Same with the Bank of England CEO too telling people not to ask for pay rises , he earns a fortune and can pay his energy bills.
None of these rises coming up affect these people that much.
It's not really envy ( not on my part to be honest although I'm not rich of course ) it's just being out of touch with ordinary people that has to be addressed.
Taxing these companies who don't pay them is not seen as the way to go by the conservatives.
Just tax us instead and make us pay more.

Well unless and until we get out of the habit of voting Tories in and expecting them to change, that's our future. Yours, mine. My DS, your DC.
user1497207191 · 04/02/2022 11:24

Perhaps now Rishi's arrogance and stupidity is starting to affect "normal" people, there may be more sympathy to the 3 million self employed/freelancers he screwed over with his arbitrary exclusions re the covid support schemes. It's yet another example of how he's completely out of touch and so arrogant that he refuses to listen to very valid criticisms of his plans. The thought that he may well be the next leader of the Tories and therefore the next PM is VERY worrying.

the80sweregreat · 04/02/2022 11:26

I know many people who will still vote Conservative. It's entrenched , even if they moan about them.
I've never voted for them , but my Dh and my family do and they are happy to be told their place and let the fat cats get away with it.
It is a mystery , but there you go.

Apparently the Bank of England Governor has told us plebs not to ask for pay rises whilst he gets circa £500k per year salary and a nice index linked pension. I think these people are trolling us.
