To wonder how you feel today if you voted for Boris Johnson at the last election?

It’s absolutely no surprise that Boris is behaving in this way but I cannot actually believe that we have a prime minister like this. He is utterly morally bankrupt. If you voted for him how do you feel now?

OP posts:

@Narutocrazyfox

No matter what the Conservatives do, they're still better leading the country than Labour would be. Its a depressing thought, but there it is. I'd vote Conservative if there were an election tomorrow, but it would be simply to keep Labour out.
How can you possibly say that? How could anything be worse than this?
MarshaBradyo · 31/01/2022 19:45

@Clumsyvolcano

I expect in reality many tory voters including some on here feel like total mugs who were conned and lied to, however, it’s well known that many people will never admit to having made such a big mistake and so will tell themselves all is rosey, deflect blame or resort to whataboutery as an act of self preservation so I don’t think you will get the answers you seek, OP.

Admitting you are wrong and have been stupid is very hard to do.

I would never vote for that bunch of self serving, privileged Toffs as long as there is breath in my body.

I think people will more likely swerve thread as it’s just insults etc if you answer.

I voted Conservative. I'm cynical enough to think that most politicians are an odd bunch. Some verging on corrupt, some utterly useless, many with no idea of living outside the bubble of Westminster. I actually quite Keir Starmer but I'd never vote Labour as I don't agree with high taxation and the big state.

As for Boris, he broke the impasse on Brexit. He seemed almost able to charm Merkel slightly. But he's chaotic, lazy and seriously lacking a moral compass on some things. I loathe his bluster and deflection.

Do I want him to go? In some ways, yes as far as Partygate is concerned. But I'm also worried about the disruption of a leadership challenge during the pandemic. I really don't want to backpedal to re-debating Brexit nor have a lockdown promoter like Gove. I'd take Sunak but not the pain of the leadership contest.

If Boris rediscovers his true "conservative" values, I think the party, and by extension the voters, might give him a temporary stay of execution. But he has to apologise properly, stop breaking his own rules and deliver.

@Itsnotdeep

How am I defending him. I said he has been disappointing but I dont feel guilty

Next election I may well vote Labour but it depends on the policy at the time.

I won't vote for a party that doesn't recognise women for example.

feb21 · 31/01/2022 19:53

Ummm not sure what you want me to reply to that... I do have a degree from a top 5 university plus I'm a chartered accountant but am I a gammon? Or do I need a doctorate or PhD to qualify as educated?

feb21 · 31/01/2022 19:57

I'm also intrigued by how quickly any Brexit/Conservative threads turn into offensive and personal insults. It doesn't exactly encourage open debate.

And no, I don't think "all" Labour voters are "thick", "on benefits" or anything else rude. I respect their right to vote differently to me without needing to insult them.

Itsnotdeep · 31/01/2022 19:58

No, I'm not sure I'll vote labour next time for that reason @whenwillthemadnessend . I certainly won't vote conservative though. I'm not quite sure that I'll be able to use my vote and that upsets me. (Although I'm in, er, Jeremy Corbyn's constituency and he has a huge majority anyway.....).

Clumsyvolcano · 31/01/2022 19:58

@MarshaBradyo quite possibly, but people have massive egos and it’s very rare that someone admits they are wrong when it comes to big things like this.

I cannot believe anyone can still defend him, he is an absolute sociopath to put it lightly. I’m gobsmacked, honestly. He might well go down in history as the worst PM Britain has ever seen, yet people are on here saying ‘But Corbyn…’ it’s laughable!!

Abhannmor · 31/01/2022 20:02

Evil Labour Party forced me to vote for the most useless government ever. It is with a heavy heart that I will do so again and again ad nauseum. There.Smile

@Dillydollydingdong

I'm bored with the whole issue of Partygate. I don't care whether Boris had parties - it depends what you call them. I call them work events and I don't understand how the addition of cake turns them into parties. Let's just get on with more important things - including the 100,000 Russian soldiers currently threatening the Ukraine.
What about the addition of a DJ & a suitcase full of booze? Unless you work in a nightclub that’s not a work event
Twillow · 31/01/2022 20:04

Can't believe some of the things I'm reading on here.

Yes but he sorted out Brexit.
Hahahaha.....

Yes but look at the covid vaccinations sucess.
In our tiny United Kingdom, the death rate is amongst the highest in the world.
155,000 and rising.
Guess how many deaths China has recorded (and ok, the figures might be disputable but as a ballpark starting point given that it's not going to be possible to conceal hundreds of thousands of additional deaths): are you ready for this.... 4,636.

I'd rather have him than Corbin (sic)
Some questionable history given, but undeniably a man of principles and good intentions towards the voting public. Not a cronyist. A man who has dedicated his entire life to politics for the good of others, rather than making money or keeping friends well-funded.

I don't mind if they have a drink.
Are you having a laugh? How about trying this at your place of work tomorrow and see how well it goes down?

The revelation of the drinking culture at no 10 was the thing that shocked me the most in Gray's report. I was not at all surprised about Johnson's lies, which have been a feature of his entire career even before politics. To cling on to power in the face of this is astonishingly arrogant - many before have gone for much less.

DH's brother was a chef in the House of Commons back in the 80s.

He had some stories about the wine drunk at lunches and after work... and apparently the wine cellar was one of the best in the world.

Bit naive to think that only Boris has started the booze flowing.......

drybird · 31/01/2022 20:04

The alternative being JC .. I'm fine with it. And Sir Keir the backstabber is certainly not someone I'd consider supporting either.

Wintersun · 31/01/2022 20:07

Thick gammon? I have a degree, professional qualifications and I’m not even white.
Tories seem to be quite ethnically diverse. Just look at the current cabinet. Labour have never even had a woman leader.

Franklin12 · 31/01/2022 20:07

Corbyn was totally out of his depth. He and Abbott, McDonnell etc certainly weren’t all there. Abbott in particular seemed completely out of it when being interviewed yet she gets in time and time again. It’s almost like it you are a Labour supporter you would vote for a brick - no wait....

McDonnell is a Marxist. That would have been good for the UK.

I think Johnson will survive this because Labour have Starmer and Raynor. Raynor in particular is clearly a nightmare. Has she told anyone she was a single mother at 16.

That's not really an excuse though, is it? Boris has been condemned for now moving the element into no 10.

A left-wing Farage.

It's well known, she does not conceal it.
What is your issue with that?
Back to the 1800s with you this instant!

Bit naive to think anyone but Johnson set rigid restrictions in a pandemic and then proceeded to defy them. It’s not about the booze.

Muminabun · 31/01/2022 20:11

Bad error about the parties. Everything else great. Will vote Tory again.

Boris also described his party as "the party of the people". Proper Animal farm that - some people are more equal than others...
TomPinch · 31/01/2022 20:15

Johnson would make a good Squealer too.

Oof I love how picky and defensive some posters are.

It's clear what the OP means....

Exactly. LOL
