It's okay to wear clothes then return them for a refund

Kay Burley on Sky News mentioned an article in one of the papers covering what happens to clothing purchased online and returned (not sure which retailer). Apparently they go to a big warehouse to be sorted and are given a 'sniff' test - to which KB said "c'mon, we've all done it"

AIBU to think that the majority of people don't order clothes, wear them, then return items in a smelly state for a refund? I have never done this unless the item has developed a fault after wearing it - and I've definitely never returned clothing smelling of sweat or anything else.

YABU - it's perfectly okay to wear something then return it for a refund, even if it's not faulty - it's one of life's perks.

YANBU - the majority of people don't do a KB!

I did this as a poor teen in the 90s. In those days everything stank of smoke so I’d hang them on the line to air them before returning.
I wouldn’t dream of doing it as an adult though

Nope, scummy & underhand thing to do unless the item was genuinely faulty. Not fair on the next person who buys the garment or the retailer.

@LoisLane66

No it is NOT OK. What I do is go to the store, find the item I've seen online and try it on in my size. I can see the real life colour, feel the material and see how it fits. Then I order it to be sent to my home. There is now no need to try at home and send back but if you're one of those despicable individuals who actually order to wear then send back...it says so much about your attitude, none of it good
What? Why? Why not just buy it from the shop if you like it rather than going to all that extra effort, contributing to lorries on road, pollution, packaging etc. Mind boggled.

I know someone who refuses to buy anything second hand but buys everything online

I buy all my stuff from eBay or charity shops-at least I know my stuff has been worn before-she honestly thinks her stuff comes straight from the retailer and has never been worn until she receives it

Wearing then returning something that you’ve worn (not just tried on) is pretty low

Doesn't make the slightest bit of sense to me, either?!

I was getting deja vu when I saw this thread, until I noticed it was a resurrected micro-zombie [grin[

I like micro-zombie.... reminds me of the Monty Python plague sketch "I'm not dead yet!"

No, it's disgusting and dishonest. I once had a last minute invitation and had to buy something without having time to wash it before wearing. As the fabric began to warm up it released the most vile stench of BO. I was mortified !
