Anyone watched this… I can’t bring myself to watch it, but it’ll be coming to cinemas shortly.

What is the best milk substitute you have tried? Specifically when added to tea, I don’t mind the substitutes in cereal but my tea tastes grim without milk.

I won’t watch it because I’m gutless- detest animal cruelty, but what else is this? Sad

I don’t think I could watch it.

I use the Alpro My Cuppa plant milk in my brews, it tastes lovely and doesn’t split or go lumpy either.

Cardboardf0x · 29/01/2022 18:20

I haven't drunk cows milk for about 20 years. I'm not vegan. I just can't bring myself to drink it. I also don't eat beef.
Sainsburys own brand Oat milk is fabulous in tea. I buy 3 cartons a time!

Me too. Cracking for making mashed potato as well.

Intrigued by Sainsbury's own oat milk! We use Oatly barista as it doesn't curdle in strong coffee.

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/01/2022 18:35

Just buy premium organic milk and don’t have too much?

Suzi888 · 29/01/2022 18:49

I do usually buy organic but I can’t do it anymore. It just sickens me, that poor animal, the look in her eyes is haunting from the image. I wouldn’t put a dog or cat through that, so why a cow.

I can’t bring myself to watch the film either, so if I’m happy to drink milk I should watch it and be happy with the suffering involved, right? Know where my food comes from etc.

I would happily spend a lot of money on a happy cow, that got to keep their children with them (weren’t eaten) and didn’t mind being milked. I’m not sure that’s a thing… and I’m not sure they want all those all those babies either.

I’m not vegetarian, I don’t check things for animal products.. I don’t eat cows, pigs or lambs though.

My eggs come from a farm up the road, can see the chickens running about.

I shall give the other suggestions a go-thank you all. I saw an ad for that alpro my cuppa earlier I think.

Sorry should say happy to pay a fortune for the milk from the happy cow!

We've switched to oat milk which tastes yummy, comes delivered by our milkman in glass bottles and seems to cope ok in hot drinks.

Very very expensive though so we've cut down too to try to mitigate the increase!

BiscuitLover3678 · 29/01/2022 19:00

Oat is the best.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 29/01/2022 19:07

Thank you for this. I did not realise this was how we got milk. I feel physically sick now. I do use almond milk alot but have never found a good alternative for tea. I was not overly impressed with the alpro cuppa but perhaps I need to persevere. I will try to remove dairy from my diet after this.

I don't eat much meat and try to get free range and organic but might consider going vegetarian.

Any other good suggestions for tea,I do love my cuppa.

Itsrainingatlast · 29/01/2022 19:08

I gave up dairy a couple of years ago.
I’d agree that oat milk is best substitute, but it’s not quite the same. Ultimately I’ve stopped drinking black tea and now drink peppermint tea during the day and fruit teas in the evening.

usernameshistory · 29/01/2022 19:10

Alpro soya is actually quite good in hot drinks. Almond milk too but a bit more watery.

ilovemybeachhut · 29/01/2022 19:11

Milk is stolen, would humans deprive their babies of the food that has been produced for them?
Before anyone flames me [I'm not bothered anyway] Animals have no say in how so called humans treat them, I'd chose animals over humans any day.
Everyone should see thisn docu.
Well done to those who are making the choice to go the right thing an trying dairy free. Respect.

OldTinHat · 29/01/2022 19:16

Milk in any form, vegetable, animal or mineral (!) (apart from cheese) is vile 🤢

FlamingRoses · 29/01/2022 19:17

Plenish oat milk. It’s the only one that just oats, water and sea salt without all the added grossness like sunflower oil and thickeners!

angelalansburysteapot · 29/01/2022 19:25

I don't drink cows milk, nor do I eat beef. I'm not vegan but I do eat a largely plant based diet for mainly environmental reasons.

Hypothetically speaking though, if everyone decided to switch to oat/plant based milks indefinitely, what would then happen to cows? They wouldn't be bred anymore as there would be no need for them. Would they eventually die out? Or would they continue to reproduce instinctively?
What would be the reason for them - genuine question.

The same could be asked about sheep & pigs if we evolved into a largely vegan population (highly unlikely but still..)

ISmellBurnings · 29/01/2022 19:26

I like skimmed milk because I don’t like milk and I can’t find a plant milk that tastes like it. Soya is disgusting, I hate almonds and coconut and oat milk tastes like oats and I don’t want that taste in my tea.

I’d swap if I could find something that I can’t taste.

ClaymationHeartsStillBeat · 29/01/2022 19:28

I've been drinking sweetened soya milk for over 20 years now. Cow's milk is no end of awful. can't do it. As such all my kids have been brought up on breast milk (mine) and then moved over to no milk or soya when they wanted it. (milk is for infants!).

Tesco own brand sweetened or Alpro tastes fine in tea. Asda was fine from what I recall.

Cam77 · 29/01/2022 19:35

Cheese is the thing I would struggle with most. Is there any vegan cheese worth a try or does being vegan realistically mean giving up cheese full stop?

NoLongerTroels · 29/01/2022 19:37

I use Soy milk for hot drinks, tastes fine, I get store brand Aldi/Lidl/Asda unsweetened. I like Almond just not the idea it uses so much water and comes a long way.
I still eat cheese occasionally as I haven't found any none dairy substitute that makes nice cheese.

StarlingsAreAmazing · 29/01/2022 19:37

The meat and dairy industries are fucking brutal. But we are more disgusted by someone kicking a dog than slitting our dinners throat.

COL1N · 29/01/2022 19:41

I drink Oat milk for this reason but 2yo DD loves cows milk- any suggestions for a milk alternative kids will enjoy?

Lovemylittlebear · 29/01/2022 19:41

Oatly barista is lovely in tea.

Cheeses - yesss finally found some good ones after trying them all 😂

Sainsbury’s do some nice ones - they do a vegan Camembert that I love and they do a smoked applewood cheese in a block or grated. Vegankindsupermarket has a cheese section that’s worth a visit and some of the glass jars of cream cheese are delicious. X

Lovemylittlebear · 29/01/2022 19:41

Oatly do a nice chocolate milk that my kids like x
