People who go on local Facebook groups and post this sort of thing

272 replies

OrangeIsTheNewRed · 29/01/2022 17:52

Does anyone else eyeroll at people who go on local social media groups and post things like:

'Anyone else spot the 11 police cars, ambulance and helicopter flying along x road just now? I hope it's nothing serious?!?!'

And

'I found a bank card outside the bank on the high street 4 days ago and I am keeping it safe. If you have lost one pm me and I will ask you questions to check if it's yours.'

And

'I'm sure that the parents of the teenagers in the chip shop will be really proud of the language their little darlings were using just now!'

Etc.

I know I could just leave the groups but they are useful for things like plasterer recommendations and checking when the tip is open and who is the best tree pruner in the area, etc.

It's not just be who finds this annoying, is it?

@WorriedGiraffe

What’s wrong with returning someone’s bank card to them?
Just hand it in to the bank like a normal person
momls20 · 30/01/2022 00:54

And people selling/recruiting for Avon/body shop/ Ann Summers Blush

BrightYellowDaffodil · 30/01/2022 00:59

@iklboo

We've got one bloke who puts things on to sell like he's on QVC:

'Do NOT miss out on the amazing offer! You'll wonder how you lived without this amazing gadget in your life!! In a stunning burgundy & silver colour, this must have piece will be a stunning centrepiece in any trendy, modern kitchen!!!'.

Brian, it's a fruit bowl.

I'm going to miss the self appointed Covid marshals. They finally had something juicy to get their teeth stuck into. Wonder what they'll latch onto next

Oh don’t worry, they’ve still got their own version of the covid rules to “enforce”. Been to Tesco twice in the same lunar cycle? Spoken to a neighbour for more than 20 seconds at a distance of fewer than four furlongs? Thought about leaving the house for the sole purpose of wantonly enjoying yourself? Mavis has got your number.

Pat123dev · 30/01/2022 01:01

Glad it's not justy town that have 'missing' cats that are actually are just off for jolly and know exactly where they are and should be.

Twofurrycats · 30/01/2022 01:11

Missing cats, lost dogs, wandering ferrets feature a lot on our local one. There was a spectacular row when someone claimed a ferret that wasn't their's.
One of my favourites was a series of found items that traced the path of someone's cracking night out. Keys found near pub a, bag of clothes pub b, handbag pub c, phone pub d, driving licence pub e. No one could contact her as she had no phone and was locked out. Eventually located sleeping off the mother of all hangovers on a friend's sofa.

figuringoutmylife · 30/01/2022 01:17

We live in the same city! lol

The cat sunbathing is a very regular occurrence. Often the same cat! He leads quite the life!

GreenClock · 30/01/2022 01:30

“can anyone recommend a cleaner?”

Try one of the 500 existing threads on this topic, the most recent of which was started two days ago. You’ll find some names I’m sure!

Frozenlikeablockofmarble · 30/01/2022 01:33

My local Freegle group, while generally exempt from local Facebook and Next Door group madness, also has some gems.

Someone posted that they were offering two house numbers as they weren’t right for their house, would split if people wanted a single number. They had 73 and they wanted 37.

Yes. Two single numbers . . . I had to read it several times to see if it was really as daft as it looked! Every time I went back it was still shaking my head more than a year later

Hawkins001 · 30/01/2022 01:37

I understand your perspectives op, but to me it's part of Facebook

margotnotrobbie · 30/01/2022 01:40

@BoredZelda

Ours is mainly for people looking for the Hermes delivery person and complaining about fireworks.

If a dozen police cars are rushing past, of course people are curious.

Omg I feel like you live in my area. Is it the 10:30pm fireworks bang that goes off every nightGrinGrin
stinkycheeseman · 30/01/2022 01:54

That reminded me, I saw an awesome little cat fella at least 100 yards from home today must post and see if anyone has lost him

Nyfluff · 30/01/2022 01:57

FROZEN are you sure they didn't just want a different font or different sized digits?

stinkycheeseman · 30/01/2022 01:57

My daughter lost her glasses in a local park and Facebook local reunited them. So not completely rubbish

VivienneDelacroix · 30/01/2022 01:59

Ours is full of people complaining about the number of new builds and lack of local infrastructure to support the extra people. There's a bloke in the new builds who enjoys winding them all up by posting about how wonderful life is on the new build estate. It's vicious on both sides and utterly bonkers.
Also lots of Brexity crap and some dullard who posts awful jokes several times a day.

ImprobablePuffin · 30/01/2022 02:36

@Tigresswoods

Ooh we have a weird local recurring theme I bet you all have?!

There's a bloke with a heavily tattooed face who just stands outside a shop all day, every day. He's doing no one any harm but he does obviously look a bit suspicious.

At least weekly dialogue about him. What a nice guy he is. Speculation on his mental health. Calling out anyone who dares judge him for standing on a street corner all day doing nothing.

Bor-ring.

We have the exact same thing but with a man who dresses like a monk.

Ours is full of roadworks ones and temporary traffic lights

Chocaholic9 · 30/01/2022 03:19

@Pumperthepumper

The cat ones are the absolute worst ‘I’ve found this poor starving neglected cat in my garden, poor thing absolutely wolfed down the three tins of tuna I gave it. Any idea who its feckless owners are?’ and a picture of a perfectly normal cat looking pleased with itself.
This made me laugh out loud.
Grasping · 30/01/2022 03:48

All these posts about just returning the bank card to the bank. We are miles from any bank! There’s a bank card post every week on ours - very useful

ExcaliburBaby · 30/01/2022 04:22

Imagine my joy at seeing a photo of my (pampered beyond belief) cat one morning with a post from someone round the corner clearly hoping to bloody adopt him! He’s a greedy bugger who roams the streets looking for food/fusses and won’t keep a collar on. He’s got a loving home - get your own bloody cat!

LankylegsFromOz · 30/01/2022 04:27

In my local FB page recently, a mum gave a shout out to 2 local teenage boys who noticed her little boy didn't want to use the skate park because he was worried they were there. They introduced themselves, took him under their wings for an hour or so and showed him how to do tricks on his scooter.

I loved that post 🙂

Grasping · 30/01/2022 05:09

We have a homeless person who randomly turns up in our village. I love the posts from the ‘thoughtful residents’ who have kindly given him a single bus fare back into the city Grin
Lots of replies saying how kind and generous when it’s obvious they just want to shoo him away

Twinklights · 30/01/2022 06:58

Yes to the cat ones!! Always get the fear my cats going to turn up at the vets/on the local page because he was relaxing in someone else’s garden when he comes in late.

Half the reason I stay on the page!

BobHadBitchTits · 30/01/2022 07:16

Someone posted a photo of a cat saying they were taking it to the vet the next time they saw her because she was small.

It was my cat. Sat on my drive. She was small because she was small. There was nothing wrong with her!

Just leave the cats alone, people.

SartresSoul · 30/01/2022 07:21

This is pretty much all our local community page is. Occasionally get someone claiming he saw teenagers scoping out local houses or cars, he’s recorded it so if you get burgled he has footage of them. You know, local Inspector Clouseau’s. There’s probably a lost bank card every other day. Yesterday it was all about storm Malik with people posting pics of fallen trees.

Whatwhywhenwhere · 30/01/2022 07:29

Where I live, someone ALWAYS knows why there are 8 police cars and a helicopter though so you can get the news faster. It’s not always reported either.

Oblomov22 · 30/01/2022 07:30

Our FB page is great. And does have all such questions.
