Going to an event, we were massively delayed in traffic getting to pils .They couldn't wait for us.
So when we arrived they were leaving and mil clocked our friend in pils old tux which dh had leant him, an old 80s thing.??

Dh served us done drinks by which point fil was calling dh saying if we didn't leave immediately we wouldn't get a space in the car park! When we got to the car park it was half empty.
Mil then questioned dh about the tux friend wearing as she felt it was actually fils old one and that was for dh not to give away.

If I tank a bottle of wine in less than an hour, I need to pee!

Cocomarine · 29/01/2022 06:49

Fair play to the OP for correct use of stationAry traffic.

The rest is gobbledygook.

grapewine · 29/01/2022 06:49

@Fridafever

This is definitely the poster that got upset with the in-laws withholding the fancy champagne. OP have you considered that you and DH could buy your own alcohol occasionally?
😅😅
twominutesmore · 29/01/2022 06:50

You sound infuriating. Who is 50 minutes late and then expects to relax and have a leisurely drink. They weren't rushing you out of the house because they didn't trust you in it, they were rushing you because you wanted a lovely relaxing start to an event you were already late for. How relaxed do you think they were, given the fact that you were so late? The car park call was just a polite 'hurry the fuck up.' Are you people who are often late or are you usually very punctual?

Tubs11 · 29/01/2022 06:52

I love that everyone is telling you that YABU but nope the 80 - 90% of us are wrong. Your in-laws were just being polite but rather than reading the situation and saying sorry we're late, shall we go and plonked yourself done for a drink under the pretence of needing to "relax". The tux thing is just weird and I totally understand where your mil is coming from, put yourself in their position

Tubs11 · 29/01/2022 06:53

SpringDaisies · 29/01/2022 06:55

Really wish I was at that drinks party now.

Examsrus · 29/01/2022 07:05

@SpringDaisies

Really wish I was at that drinks party now.
Are you also late and stuck in traffic? ;op
Workinghardeveryday · 29/01/2022 07:25

@TurkeyRoastvBubbleandSqueek
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 brilliant

Please please could someone send the link for the champagne thread? I could do with a good laugh.

@Hisanimalgrace oh my goodness!!! You must have been wankered last night! Hope you don’t have a hangover today. Get a mcds down you that will sort you out, you will be right as rain to do it all again tonight 😬

CJsGoldfish · 29/01/2022 07:34

This is definitely the poster that got upset with the in-laws withholding the fancy champagne
Ahhh? Makes more sense now 🤣

Hesma · 29/01/2022 07:36

Sorry but I don’t really understand

schoolsoutforever · 29/01/2022 07:39

No-one likes to be stuck in traffic but 50 mins should not constitute a need for relaxing or toilets in and of itself. It’s (obviously) not even a hour. If you had been stuck in traffic for, say, five or six hours you may have needed the loo but, even then, if I was late to an event nearby I would just nip to the loo and get going. I don’t get the need for a drink, after 50 mins in someone else’s house. I doubt mil didn’t trust you, I suspect she thought it was completely unnecessary and a little odd. I agree with her.

JazzHandsYeah · 29/01/2022 07:46

Yeah you were being very unreasonable.
But the good news is, your PILs will probably not invite you to a similar event in future.

FilthyforFirth · 29/01/2022 07:46

100% the poster who gate crashed a party and then was upset at not getting the good stuff.

Your poor PIL you sound quite batty.

Cleanbedlinen12 · 29/01/2022 07:58

The bit I think is odd is the op wanted the pil to say ,’have a drink and hopefully see you later’
Erm?

Overthebow · 29/01/2022 08:01

Why did you need to relax after a 50 minute drive? Surely you just go to the event. Did you bring any drinks to contribute to the pre-drinks or were you expecting PIL to provide them all?

StewPots · 29/01/2022 08:08

This thread is absolutely barking mad!

  1. YABVU. I hate lateness - yes ok, traffic doesn’t help but to then stop at theirs and have a drink when the house is in the same town as the venue… where they’re waiting for you?!?
  1. I get a quick loo stop but why do you need to “relax” after a 50 min drive?! I’ve been the passenger often in 10-12 hour drives, often with young DC in the back. THATS when you need to relax after a journey, trust me!!
  1. Perhaps MIL found it hurtful her husbands tux is being worn by someone she doesn’t even know, and it may have great sentimental value to her, not just be “some 80s thing”. Also who was the friend and why was he tagging along to what was clearly a family event?!?

You sound rude, entitled and I feel sorry for your mum in law.

Holly60 · 29/01/2022 08:15

@Hisanimalgrace

If my dc turned up with lots of people I might wonder what they could get up too in half an hour but unless my dc go massively off the rails id like to think I could trust them in my house, at least for half an hour?

And the old tux was either I imagine headed for dh or a charity shop.

Hang on…. So the tux was actually still at PIL’s house? It hadn’t been given to DH yet? So am I right in thinking your DH gave his friend a tux that was still hanging in FIL’s wardrobe without asking him first?
Lysianthus · 29/01/2022 08:20

Hilarious!
@TurkeyRoastvBubbleandSqueek is the (utterly brilliant) MIL.

This thread will either end up in Classics or get deleted.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 29/01/2022 08:22

Why on earth did you need to stop in their house for a drunk before going to the event?

Maybe MIL was worried that left in your own in the house you might all go through their wardrobes for more of their clothing to wear?

MIL should have insisted that your friend strip to his underwear on the doorstep, whisked away his suit and put it on eBay.

TheHumanSatsuma · 29/01/2022 08:24

@ButtockUp

Maybe try posting coherently?
👌
marpelier · 29/01/2022 08:25

Has it been confirmed that this is the poster that barreled in uninvited to a dinner at the in-laws and then "made eyes" at her Dh that she wanted more of the champagne?
Shock . Not really. Her poor DH. He rarely rates a mention.

TrashyPanda · 29/01/2022 08:30

Why did you need to “relax” after a journey that only lasted 50 minutes?
That’s a fairly normal commute to work time. Or does your employer let you lounge around for 30 minutes so you aren’t too stressed?

ToWhere · 29/01/2022 08:35

Brilliant Saturday morning thread Grin

Does "relax" equal "get pissed on free drinks at ILs house rather pay at the event"? Was the driver relaxing as well?

Tux handover before or after arriving at their house?

OldTinHat · 29/01/2022 08:35

@TurkeyRoast - absolutely brilliant summing up there!

This surely has to go into classics?! I haven't laughed so much in ages!
