For me, it was Paris. Not an AIBU, I know

Naples - just unsafe.
Marseille - same as above.
Florence - didn't get all the hype.

zafferana · 27/01/2022 22:02

Dublin
Australia

I had high hopes for both as everyone RAVES about them, but Dublin was grotty and dirty and Australia I felt like I'd flown to the far side of the world for a place that mainly looked like a 1980s shopping centre. The wildlife is amazing and the beaches are pretty stunning, but apart from that I was really disappointed.

Itonlytakesonetree · 27/01/2022 22:02

Disney whichever it is in Florida.

MountainAshley · 27/01/2022 22:02

Bondi beach. It was shit!

Cheeseandlobster · 27/01/2022 22:02

Costa Rica. It was beautiful. The people were amazing and the food fabulous. But my god it was so unbearably hot and humid. I was dripping with sweat constantly and I was so hot I couldn't eat. And I love food more than anyone I know. I also got a weird bug where I was shaking and had diarrhoea. It's the only place I have ever been on holiday where I lost weight. I wish I had loved it more as it was stunning and a once in a lifetime holiday.

And Egypt. I hated most things about that place and I never felt safe the entire time

Jessica60 · 27/01/2022 22:03

San Francisco. A tourist was shot outside a cafe we were in. Homeless everywhere. Unfriendly people. Too many hills.

thefirstmrsrochester · 27/01/2022 22:03

Yy to Cancun and Cornwall.

Venice.

Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin · 27/01/2022 22:04

Oops misread destination as meaning holiday destination and not a place, but been disappointed with both Paris and Nando’s. Both okay, but don’t get the hype!

topguntopgun · 27/01/2022 22:04

South Africa (specifically Capetown)...people there are unpleasant and inherently racist and elitist

Puffalicious · 27/01/2022 22:04

Sydney. All fur and no knickers. Melbourne knocks socks off it.

Paris - MontMarte is wonderful and I love the galleries but everything else a bit blah.

It's the people and vibe in Dublin that makes it special. That and the best bookshop ever (I'm keeping it secret).

Edinburgh is fabulous if you know where to go to avoid tacky tourists.

Adore, adore, adore Rome. I must have been 6/7 times. Was due to take teen DC Sep 20, Covid cancelled it and I WILL get to go this year.

PP who said the Scottish Highlands- are you insane?!

Cheshiresun · 27/01/2022 22:04

Monaco/Monte Carlo, such a boring place, nothing happening and couldn't understand what all the hype, as I perceived it, was about, far too built up, not very pretty.

Agree on Dublin, all I remember is Guinness everywhere, dirty buildings and rip off taxi drivers.

IMO

Fireflygal · 27/01/2022 22:04

Naples - industrial place that reminded me of Southampton.

Paris - fine as a city but don't get the 'romance" vibe.

Xero · 27/01/2022 22:04

Naples is a the first place that came into my head. Pickpocketed within minutes of boarding a train.

Blackpool is another with overpriced b&bs.

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 27/01/2022 22:04

I agree with Niagara Falls. The Falls themselves were amazing but the town is a tacky dump(at least on the Canadian side) . Luckily I had been prewarned so we had only booked one night there and then got the bus to Niagara on the Lake a little town about 20 miles away which was just beautiful.

I also dislike Dublin. I have to visit quite frequently as we have close family there so I have found a few places I like but as a city it's very touristy and overpriced.

Zandathepanda · 27/01/2022 22:05

Paris - grey, noisy and dirty
Hong Kong - all the maids living in cardboard boxes on the street on a Sunday (‘family day without the maid’).

SpiderinaWingMirror · 27/01/2022 22:05

Port Merion

Phrenologistsfinger · 27/01/2022 22:05

Stonehenge! Normally my kind of thing but over hyped, overdeveloped and a bit of a dark vibe to me.

Glorieta · 27/01/2022 22:06

Andorra- full of cheap electrical shops and high rise hotels

Not a city but an attraction - Aphrodites grotto? In Cyprus - smelled piss and full of litter/ beer bottles not magical in the least

Kuachui · 27/01/2022 22:06

cornwall. new York. devon. london

zeddybrek · 27/01/2022 22:06

Paris and Dubai. I just don't get Dubai.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/01/2022 22:07

Rome is another one I loved - an amazing, breathtaking sight around every corner.

Brighton - I agree about the city itself, but I really love the beaches just outside the city. The pebble beach (it’s not shingle) is one of the things I really like - no sand to get everywhere Grin

madisonbridges · 27/01/2022 22:07

Dublin. Admittedly the weather didn't help but it was just grey with closed down shops. I was expecting a real buzz with a cool vibe...as the magazine articles sell it. And it was so flipping expensive.

Stoic123 · 27/01/2022 22:07

Another vote for Dublin.

Pisa too but then hopped onto a train to Lucca so all ended well.

Workyticket · 27/01/2022 22:07

Alton Tower (and all.other theme parks tbh)

Hours and hours queuing for 4 or 5 three minute rides. Shite.

Crayfishforyou · 27/01/2022 22:08

The Lake District. Seriously expensive.
