For me, it was Paris. Not an AIBU, I know

Have been to Paris loads of times but most trips were quite a few years ago. Kept reading on here that it was grubby so was a bit wary when we went back a few years ago. I thought it was still fabulous. It's more impressive (to me) than London.

I was very underwhelmed by Oxford Blush. Still wonder if we missed something.

Pinetreesfall · 27/01/2022 21:53

Yes Paris and Rome for me too. Dirty places and not what I was expecting.
Essaouira too - strangest place ever - felt like I'd dropped onto a different planet!

MadisonAvenue · 27/01/2022 21:53

San Francisco. So many people told me how wonderful it was and I was totally underwhelmed.

Dublin too, I’ve been a number of times on cheap 30 minute Ryanair flights with my kids, just for a day out on a plane, and a couple of times with friends for overnight stays for concerts and I just don’t see what there is to get excited about there.

Hairyfriend · 27/01/2022 21:53

Sharm El Sheikh- scuba diving was mediocre compared to anywhere I've dived, local town/markets only had men (we barely saw a local women the whole trip) and they were creepy. Despite wearing modest clothing, I felt stared at and uncomfortable as soon as I went outside the hotel.

SunflowerSmith · 27/01/2022 21:53

Eden Project - an expensive way to walk around two greenhouses.

Scottish Highlands - miles and miles and miles of bleak nothingness with hardly anywhere to park up and walk the dog. Arisaig beach however is stunning.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 27/01/2022 21:53

Paris. Dangerous, threatening shit hole.

BlueFlavour · 27/01/2022 21:54

@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing

Naples. Definitely Naples.

No way. Just no way!

I was going to start a list of places that massively exceeded expectations just to say Naples! Shock

Completely agree. I thought Naples was magical. Also loved Edinburgh and Paris, so what do I know Grin
BlueFlavour · 27/01/2022 21:54

And Venice

FangsForTheMemory · 27/01/2022 21:55

Gibraltar. Very polluted, hideous food, nothing to do.

MrsAvocet · 27/01/2022 21:55

I agree with several of these.
Niagra definitely - like Blackpool but less tasteful.
New York left me fairly cold and the French Riviera was a bit disappointing too. (Admittedly I was ill on my holiday to Cannes though so I should maybe give it the benefit of the doubt and try again sometime.)

SiobhanSharpe · 27/01/2022 21:55

@Dinosauraddict

Naples. Definitely Naples.
Absolutely! Filthy dirty, and nasty vibe. Hated having to go out of the hotel, it felt so unsafe.
crazyjinglist · 27/01/2022 21:56

Yep, Paris for me too. I've been there a lot (though not for a while) and I don't agree it's a shithole, I just never loved it.

mnahmnah · 27/01/2022 21:56

Agree with Cornwall, and Cancun - tacky

Love Edinburgh!

The great pyramids were a little anti-climatic

username103842 · 27/01/2022 21:57

Reykjavik - Iceland
Alot of our trips got cancelled due to the weather. So we spent most of our 4 days wandering around the city and it got very boring.
The two trips we did do was a horse ride. My horse seem to hate me and despite it being aimed at beginners. One of the people on the tour kept asking to gallop so I spent most of the two hours clinging on to my horse for dear life.

The Blue Lagoon was a very hectic not at all relaxing experience. The changing rooms were so packed at one point a huge bottom ended up in my face. Then there was a power cut so I was freezing with wet hair trying to get dry.
I love holidays it's one of the few places I have wanted to leave.

JudyGemstone · 27/01/2022 21:57

Dubai must be one of the most morally and spiritually bankrupt places on earth.

The living epitome of the phrases ‘more money than sense’ and ‘just because you can it doesn’t mean you should’.

A monument to consumerism and greed built on modern slavery. Shameful.

FangsForTheMemory · 27/01/2022 21:58

@Hollyhead Bet you went to Menton or Cannes. Try the other end of the French Riviera. Busy, but with people swimming, boating, walking rather than 'nightlife'.

Aloha7373 · 27/01/2022 21:58

Brighton…

Shingle beach, run down buildings, people in crisis everywhere, highest rates of violence in the UK… depressing craphole!

fizzyfood · 27/01/2022 21:59

Stonehenge

IDontDrinkTea · 27/01/2022 21:59

New York was rather underwhelming. I’m glad I went but I wouldn’t bother again

fluffiphlox · 27/01/2022 22:00

Acapulco.

Momicrone · 27/01/2022 22:00

Winter wonderland

Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin · 27/01/2022 22:00

Paris. Also Nando’s, it’s okay I just don’t get the hype! 🤣

ISeeTheLight · 27/01/2022 22:00

Pisa

I loved Nice.

username103842 · 27/01/2022 22:01

@OfstedOffred

South Africa. We found the people we met there unpleasant.

It's a pity as I work a lot with people in SA now & they are all lovely, so I guess we just got unlucky.

Gosh where in South Africa did you go? I received the most amazing service I have ever received in SA. I met the most lovely people. I even still chat to them on social media occasionally.
bellaella18 · 27/01/2022 22:01

Mauritius and Venice.
