For me, it was Paris. Not an AIBU, I know

Lived in Paris. Can confirm it's a shithole.

Mambles · 27/01/2022 22:14

Dubai - all style and no substance, we've been a couple of times and I find it tacky.

recycledcat · 27/01/2022 22:15

Absolutely love Paris and Rome - not sure where it says places have to be "clean" to still be amazing cities to visit.

Most overrated - Barcelona - was a day trip but felt soulless and very, very dull.

Puffalicious · 27/01/2022 22:15

Oh God yes, Miami is so boring and bland!

TatianaBis · 27/01/2022 22:15

New York. It's basically Brixton meets Canary Warf with a bit of Hyde Park. And it smells.

MrsBerthaRochester · 27/01/2022 22:15

Dublin. Dirty and I saw a LOT of used syringes. Plus every single pub we went into not one person cracked a smile.
Edinburgh. Its so full of tourists and students thats it rare to bump into a Scottish person! Also saw used syringes on Princes street.
Glasgow is a far cooler city.

Pearl Harbour. Had wanted to visit for a long time. Didn’t move me at all. Still don’t know why.

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 27/01/2022 22:16

@HeronLanyon

The Grand Canyon. I can’t really explain this but I honestly was underwhelmed. Not sure why.
I was too. It was wide and deep and ...so what? The world is full of chasms and gorges in varying degrees of depth and width. I don't understand what was so special about that one.

We got a helicopter there and I was much more impressed when we flew over the Hoover Dam.

Notimeforaname · 27/01/2022 22:17

Las palmas , Gran Canaria. Went for a few days at the end of holiday, felt unsafe. Loads of crazies around.

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 27/01/2022 22:17

@Puffalicious

Belfast is a FABULOUS city: the people, the music, the pubs, the history. Amazing for a weekend trip.
This is so true. People should go there not Dublin. I love most parts of the Republic but Dublin is not great.
Puffalicious · 27/01/2022 22:17

MrsBerthaRichester of COURSE Glasgow is far cooler, that goes without saying. It very much has it's own personality, not a tourist trap. I do like Edinburgh but I'm Glaswegian and love my city so much.

skipperjonce · 27/01/2022 22:18

Rome - dirty, crowded, noisy shit hole.
Naples - see above but add dangerous
Bondi beach - scummy dirty and overcrowded
Surfers Paradise - only If you’re a 17 year old surfer on spring break desperate to snog a few girls and throw up in a doorway
Dubai - just fucking terrible in every way
Cornwall - crowded, expensive and wet. All beach car parks full by 9am

united4ever · 27/01/2022 22:18

Regarding Naples, one person's filthy, crumbling shithole is another person's gritty charm. I like it. Bit like Barcelona before it got gentrified around the time of the Olympics. Then there is the pizza, seafood and coffee to die for.

AuntyBumBum · 27/01/2022 22:18

Giant's Causeway. All I can say is that the people of Antrim have a vivid imagination.

MaggieFS · 27/01/2022 22:18

Waikiki. High rise hotels built up to the beach front. Narrow beach and it turns out the sand is all imported! Loads of poverty one block back from the sea front.

Agree with pp on Paris too. I don't get it. And it smells of wee.

Also agree with pp's description of Marmaris, but I wasn't aware it was well thought of in the first place!

Catswhisky · 27/01/2022 22:18

@ZeusandClio

Nice. Disgusting shithole. Monaco and San Remo were great though, but Nice is horrid.
I loved Nice but hated Monaco.

Clearwater in Florida

SwishSwishBisch · 27/01/2022 22:19

I always assume people who don’t rate Naples are those plastic tourists who expect everything to be picture perfect and Insta worthy. Naples is a glorious, vibrant mess of a city. I absolutely bloody loved it, but it’s not for everyone.
Also, Edinburgh is wonderful but I am biased because I live there Grin but what makes it wonderful probably escapes most people who just come up for the Fringe or Hogmanay.

Most overrated for me is LA. Nice pockets here and there but it’s just too bloody big to get any real sense of identity.

Glugglejug · 27/01/2022 22:19

LA is awful.
Whitstable is an utter shit hole that I couldn’t wait to leave.
Melbourne - everyone raves about it and insisted I must go when I was travelling in Australia. I didn’t really like the city (but I did go on a tour of some of the Great Ocean Road which was worth a visit). Overall I preferred Sydney.
Brussels is a terrible city too. Really really boring.

On the other hand, I absolutely loved Dubai in a horrified-fascinated way!

SSMH · 27/01/2022 22:20

@Dinosauraddict

Naples. Definitely Naples.
Agree with this! DH wanted to go for a few days before we went to the Amalfi Coast and I really didn't like it! We went to Pompeii though which was amazing so silver lining
Notimeforaname · 27/01/2022 22:20

I always laugh when people are disappointed by the dull Irish weather, what were they expecting? 🤣

LiveFromNewYork · 27/01/2022 22:20

New York for me too. Liked Boston more.

tillytoodles1 · 27/01/2022 22:20

Paris is dirty and expensive.

heyitsthistle · 27/01/2022 22:20

Los Angeles and San Francisco. I'd be happy to never set foot in either city again.

Hopikins · 27/01/2022 22:20

Guernsey... I found the scenery and beaches in Dorset far nicer.
