sst1234 · 26/01/2022 21:50

If/when he goes. I know many would would prefer someone other than a Tory to do so but let’s be realistic. Out of the front runners in the cabinet, who would you want to replace him ant why?

OP posts:

How about the lovely Mark Francois?🐸( no toad emoji)

Mumrey · 27/01/2022 11:13

My cat - he has more brains and sense than the current cabinet !

Rosemaryandlemon · 27/01/2022 11:15

I think it will be Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak in the final 2 and the Tory party will vote for Truss.

greenlynx · 27/01/2022 11:15

I don’t think that Liz Truss got some harsh comments on this thread because she’s a woman. For me she’s just coming across as really cold emotionally about everything. I would never tell this about Priti Patel and I’m not her fan at all. Also Liz Truss came from a decent Labour supporting family so for me such a sharp turn in views always looked very suspicious. It’s my main problem with her.

Jjjayfee · 27/01/2022 11:21

The Downing Street cat!

TeloMere · 27/01/2022 11:21

I hate the way the media, and most of mumsnet it seems, are treating this whole party gate situation as entertainment, speculating, joking and agog to see what will happen next. So much air and online space is taken up with this.
There's no guarantee that a new Tory PM will be any better than the current one, it's possible that they will be worse.

And they'll have to hit the ground running to cope with the situation in Ukraine, spiralling cost of living and the pandemic.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 27/01/2022 11:23

it's possible that they will be worse

Can anybody be worse than lying Boris?🤔

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 27/01/2022 11:24

@LadyCatStark

I always think Grant Shapps comes across OK.
He's a proven liar who used various fake names to peddle get rich quick schemes on the internet - ideal.
user1497787065 · 27/01/2022 11:25

If only Keir Starmer would say what he would do rather then just slag off what Boris Johnson has done.

He has the perfect oppprtunity to market himself and his party and he chooses not too.

The media and possibly the Tory party itself will sink Boris on party gate.

Jeremy Hunt would be my choice but only as the best of a bad bunch.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 27/01/2022 11:26

What the fuck does that even mean?
I could "hit the ground running" and deal with that, especially surrounded by senior civil servants - it's not rocket science, it's a piece of piss. The hardest part of the job is not getting on the wrong side of your own party.

What do you want him to say exactly? Labour has made proposals to tackle the cost of living issues. Personally I am glad Starmer is "slagging" Boris - that lying piece of shit needs slagging.
3peassuit · 27/01/2022 11:29

Jeremy Hunt, Tom Tugendhut, Liz Truss. They’re about the best of a bad bunch.

AnnPerkins · 27/01/2022 11:34

Not Sunak. It might sound like politics of envy but I don't want a billionaire to be our PM. Nobody else from the Cabinet either, they all got there by supporting Boris and none of them has shown any competence, integrity or backbone.

Not Hunt, he's responsible for our lack of pandemic-preparedness and the NHS and teachers hate him.

I'm interested in Tom Tugendhat, he has a good knowledge of the world, he voted to Remain in the EU, he served in Iraq and Afghanistan and as Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee he could take over the handling of the Russia/Ukraine threat this afternoon and we would immediately be better off than we are now with Boris and Truss.

billycat321 · 27/01/2022 11:39

Dominic Raab, as deputy prime minister, would automatically and immediately succeed Boris

Yeah I mean - there are going to be LOADS of volunteers who want to lead us through the possibly of WW3.

"Right guys.. we are possibly heading in to a war with Russia who will stop our fuel lines, have a massive fuck off army that dwarfs ours, have waaaaaaay more tanks, guns, rockets, planes ect..who wants to take that on? Come on its a piece of piss, you will have loads of help of civil servants, you just need to be the figure head and take the blame if it all fucks up and people die....anyone...anyone...'

Have you not noticed how recently he is starting to get support back from senior Tories? How no one is really popping their little heads over the parapet? No fucker wants the role of being in charge of a possible war with Russia - would you?

Intheopinionofourexpert · 27/01/2022 11:39

It's interesting how many fans there are of Andy Burnham. He properly makes my flesh creep. Self serving and smarmy. And I hate the way he's tried to rewrite history to make himself out to be some sort of hero with regard to Hillsborough.

Why are people fans of Jeremy Hunt? I don't remember him being popular when he was health minister (or doing a good job). Baroness Warsi or Ken Clarke would be my pick if they'd have been eligible, or wanted it!

CoddledAsAMommet · 27/01/2022 11:41

What do people know about Huw Merriman? I heard him interviewed on the radio and thought he sounded intelligent and thoughtful before I realised he was an MP. I don't know anything more about him.

SuitcaseOfWhine · 27/01/2022 11:42

I don't like any of the cabinet. Definitely not Truss or Sunak. I see Javid is popular and I understand he's come from more humble beginnings, but still not that impressed.

I want someone who actually commits and delivers levelling up and can't see any of that with the current cabinet. At the moment it's just levelling down, including the middle classes. Equality needs to improve by raising everyone's living standards and not reducing everyone's down.

Their policies are batshit crazy at the moment too. The announcement today has really not been thought through and is desperate. It's like someone hand delivered 10 kilos of cocaine to number 10.

Loveisthere · 27/01/2022 11:44

Tom Tugendhat top man well respected in the commons by all parties . Jackie Weaver gets a vote but definitely not Jeremy Hunt although to be fair nobody could be worse than Boris

tiredanddangerous · 27/01/2022 11:45

My 12 year old. She's quite politically minded and she'd clearly do a better job than Boris. Don't think she'd be up for joining the Tory party though.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 27/01/2022 11:48

Don't be silly - we aren't "going to war" with Russia.
Ukraine isn't in NATO, so we have no obligation.
We'd be mad to engage in conventional warfare with Russia.

Notoironing · 27/01/2022 11:51

Liz Truss

Right now in the situation we are in ...yes I can think of quite a few.

Yes he has told lies and been found out but it was over cake and rescuing animals ffs.

He delivered on Brexit in six weeks - Yes there are still issues but he ripped the plaster off and delivered it when every one else were still crying and trying to reverse it.

He secured our vaccines before anyone else did in the EU and that is fucking massive - and he needs credit for that our vaccine roll out efficiency has been incredible.

He refused to put us in lockdown over Christmas against the dementors (sage)advice.

If Labour where in then they reversed Brexit which would have been a massive blow for democracy. I would have never voted again and I was a long standing labour voter.

They wouldn't have secured the vaccines

We would still be in lockdown and lives and businesses destroyed. Mine included.

They would be turning blind eye to what Russia are doing and the impending threat to our country because they are all weak - apart from gob shite AR who is an embarrassment and does not represent me as a single mother

Self ID would be in full swing.

He needs to stay - for now.

Mountaingoat12 · 27/01/2022 11:54

If it’s Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak that’s good. They are both dire. There is no way the Tories will win the next election. Ben Wallace seems to be the only current cabinet member not to have smeared himself in the current sleaze. He says things that make him sound competent.

Rabb, Patel, Dorries - just so, so awful. The problem is anyone with any sort of moral compass got kicked out by Boris due to not wanting to bring the destruction of Brexit.

'Don't be silly - we aren't "going to war" with Russia' exchange Russia for Germany because this is what was said just before the war with Hitler.

However , I can tell you have zero knowledge of what is happening so I will let you get back to scrolling on your phone.
