Driving the wrong way down a one way street? (Diagram)

NC for this as I'm embarrassed if I'm driving the wrong way down a one way street every day.

The attached road sign is what the angry drivers see when I am coming the other way. They wind their windows down and yell at me that it's a one way street. This happens most days.

I think the sign means they need to turn left at the top of the street and the street itself isn't one way.

There isn't a no entry ⛔️ sign when I drive from my house and down this street.

AIBU to drive this way? I've been shouted and sworn at so many times I'm starting to think the sign must mean the street is one way.

Diagram also attached.

Sorry Op I think you’ve been driving down the wrong way on a one way street. There doesn’t appear to be double dashes at the end that would indicate cars are expected to the way where you would be pulling off the road onto the intersecting road.

SoupDragon · 26/01/2022 17:29

I think it looks like a one way street.

OneWayDriver · 26/01/2022 17:30

From Google maps. No arrows on the road.

What signage and marking are there at the entrance to the road where the other driver entered (ie beyond the edge of the bottom centre of your diagram) ?

Whitney168 · 26/01/2022 17:30

You've name changed OP, tell us the street name and town so we can look at Google Maps.

EnterFunnyNameHere · 26/01/2022 17:31

If there is definitely no "no entry" sign at either end, then that bit of road is two way, and thw sign they see heading up on your diagram is telling them they cannot turn right (towards your house) they need to turn left and go around the square.

I think at least! Google Street View grabs would be helpful!

Pudmyboy · 26/01/2022 17:31

Near where I live there is a road which is 2-way traffic up to a point then just past a t-junction becomes one-way, it is very confusing as it was originally a 2 way road all it's length then was changed, I think as a traffic calming/management thing as where it is 1-way there is a school: and it was changed to help flow of traffic at school times.
Anyway what I mean by all of this is that road signs are confusing though they are not meant to be!
Council, or do you know a driving instructor or traffic warden who can clear it up? Any local facebook community?

mrbeanisatwat · 26/01/2022 17:32

You live near me Grin

mrbeanisatwat · 26/01/2022 17:32

And yes it's one way. You're driving the wrong way down it

FleeceNavidadFromTheSheep · 26/01/2022 17:33

If it is one-way, there will be a one-way sign at the beginning where the shouty drivers are turning into it.

RandomLondoner · 26/01/2022 17:33

If the road were one way there would be no-entry signs at the first corner OP goes around to get onto the road in question.

pencilpot99 · 26/01/2022 17:33

It's a two-way street. There is nothing indicating that isn't the case. There's a lots of streets like this near where I live (Cotwolds, old towns and villages with narrow roads) that are 100% definitely two-way. Just because it's narrow with no lines painted on it doesn't make any difference.

RandomMess · 26/01/2022 17:34

I think the no entry/one way signs are way further back, like around another bend or two.

Pudmyboy · 26/01/2022 17:34

@OneWayDriver

Aha! you have answered it via Google maps! (just a thought: RAC/AA or such, if you are a member: cna they give advice on this sort of thing?) Though not needed as you have shown it is not one-way. Maybe print out that bit of the map to give shouty drivers? (Joke!!)
EnterFunnyNameHere · 26/01/2022 17:34

Ps all the posters saying its too narrow to be 2 way - there are LOADS of 2 way streets in the UK way narrower than that Grin Haven't you ever had to duck in between parked cars to get down a stret with oncoming traffic?!

FAQs · 26/01/2022 17:36

@OneWayDriver can you add the parked cars from your picture on to your fabulous diagram that might help?

Zazdar · 26/01/2022 17:36

Looks narrow, there's no lane division,

It's a lot wider than the two-way, lineless road outside my house.

choosername1234 · 26/01/2022 17:38

What are the road markings when you get to the end of the road? Is there a give way line/sign or a stop line/sign? This will tell you 🛑

It looks to me as if you've been driving the wrong way

titchy · 26/01/2022 17:38

@Nemorth

The street is too narrow and has no road markings to be a two way street.

I'm pretty sure, especially with lots of other drivers telling you, that it is a one way street.

Plenty of narrow roads are two way streets! One near me is one car width wide! I agree with you OP. There's nothing to indicate it's one way. The road signs for shouty traffic just tell shouty drivers in that direction what they need to do - nothing to do with drivers from your house direction.
Theluggage15 · 26/01/2022 17:40

Where I live there’s loads of roads without lines down the middle, they’re still 2 way.

titchy · 26/01/2022 17:41

Agree for absolute clarity we need a photo of what drivers see when they enter the road from the other direction.

SamphiretheStickerist · 26/01/2022 17:41

I live on a high street. Main road into a market town. It has no white lines, cars parked on one side only, and is too narrow for two way traffic, with or without the parked cars. Yet it is a 2-way road, the only road buses and delivery artics can use.
RandomLondoner · 26/01/2022 17:42

If it's a one way, there needs to be a way to tell where OP enters it, an indication (official or not) at the end is of no use to anyone.

Even if it's meant to be one way, if there are no explicit signs saying so, it isn't.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 26/01/2022 17:43

Reminds me of Hove.

Looks 2 way to me in the absence of signs - it's a shame so many people are so ignorant of actual road signs and markings.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 26/01/2022 17:44
