To be really enjoying Boris Johnson's downfall Part 2 http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4459992-To-be-really-enjoying-Boris-Johnsons-downfall-Part-2

And on it goes.

@Florianus

You seem to be ignoring the relationship between the things you're worried about and who's job it is to be preventing those things.

He would stand a better chance of getting on with all the important things I listed if he didn't have to keep putting up with all this nonsense about parties. It is out of proportion.

Or perhaps if he was working instead of partying he'd have done a better job on the first place?!
DePfeffoff · 26/01/2022 11:54

Johnson never does any real work, that's one of the main reasons he has stumbled from crisis to crisis since he became PM.

Notonthestairs · 26/01/2022 11:54

Gaslighting tip: they fixate on irrelevant details. They make tiny distinctions that have nothing to do with the wider rules. Cake. Parties. Length of visit. All deflection.
It was an ILLEGAL GATHERING BY THEIR OWN RULES. They know that. You know that. The police know that... -Stephen McGann.

we do know from the fact that 118,9632 fixed penalty fines have been issued that many did break the rules.
Out of a country of 70 million, I'm struggling to describe that as "many"
The vast majority of people followed the rules at great personal cost and its so offensive to claim now that they were somehow unusual.

the80sweregreat · 26/01/2022 11:56

Flo, if you think that the current conservatives care a jot about the children missing from school when they voted against to continue the free school meals for them in the holidays over lockdown and only reversed it because Marcus Rashford held them to account , then your obviously a bit deluded. I doubt they even think about it to be honest.
I know that this is distracting us all from the key issues at home ( not to mention Ukraine ) but these things do matter to people who feel a bit duped that we were all obeying the rules imposed on us to stop the NHS being overwhelmed and to save lives , they broke it all to have a do or more , how many did they have ?
Even Pritti Patel MP told people to snitch on others , yet she did nothing to stop these gatherings , she must have got wind of them going ahead ?

Still , we will have to see what happens , might be fines etc only , I'm sure the Tory doners will pay it anyway!

SueGraysInbox · 26/01/2022 11:56

There are more important things to be worrying about, so why doesn't Johnson worry about them instead of dragging this out? He continually has undermined the law, wriggled out of genuine accountability for anything, is on the take, runs roughshod over the ministerial code and lies, so if this is the thing that sticks, fine. I do worry we may get even more influence from the extreme CRG lot though. If he had have got the big things right, fair enough, but he hasn't.

SueSaid · 26/01/2022 11:58

God, everyone has a friend who has worked with BJ and he is lazy and incompetent of course 🙄. I have a friend who has worked with him and said he is a great boss and very brilliant. That how it works?

'Drag it out, hope n pray Putin keeps up the tension in Ukraine or better still invades and Bojo will be there for the next GE.'

Such a terrible thing to be flippant about . If Putin invades then the bloodshed and destruction with he horrific.

Poor excitable Paul Brand on GMB this a.m, he thinks it's Watergate doesn't he.

Roussette:
It's not out of proportion

I don't think that parties and cake are more important than the education of our children, of dealing with the enormous threat of poverty hanging over us, or of avoiding the return of war in Europe, or the threat of the virus surging up again - even if you think parties are more important. So I cannot agree. It is ridiculous to get your knickers in a twist over parties and cake.

Did Priti Patel tell us it was 118,9632?

I am not sure if you are aware, but the Prime Minister had a birthday party having banned children from doing the same with their friends.

Nobody is saying that those of us who followed the rules were unusual.
ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 26/01/2022 12:02

It's not about parties and cake.

This is about the morals and decision making quality of the people who want to make the biggest decisions for our country.

It is entirely proportionate to make sure we have good leadership.

If they can't be trusted to make the right decision about following their own rules and / or they are stupid enough to think they can hide their behaviour they sure as hell can't be trusted to decide if we go to war or not.

DePfeffoff · 26/01/2022 12:04

Literally hundreds of reputable sources over several years have said how lazy he is. And we can all see for ourselves how utterly incompetent he is. So if you did have a friend who said that, they would be lying, delusional or very, very lucky.

Notonthestairs · 26/01/2022 12:05

I think breaking the law & then lying to Parliament in order to cover up are serious accusations to be levelled at anyone but especially to the Prime Minister.

It's not about cake, cheese, wine, suitcases , broken slides or any of the other flim flam that is used by Johnson supporters to deflect.

Do you think that, just possibly, the rule of law stands above all those issues, and that if we don't have the rule of laws then all those issues will become infinitely more serious?
Roussette · 26/01/2022 12:06

EXACTLY.

It's what it stands for.

Break the rules, you're more important than the general public
Have parties/get togethers when you want (19 at the last count?)
Delete all the info on your phone just in case
Keep quiet or you'll regret it
And so on

I just know that May and even Cameron would not have behaved like this.

VelvetChairGirl · 26/01/2022 12:06

I find these threads depressing because....

To be really enjoying Boris Johnson's downfall Part 3

and then we will get part 4, part 365.

he should have gone long ago, he should never have been PM in the first place this country is a fucking mess when 43% of it can land us with this shower having a 80 seat majority.

Cornettoninja · 26/01/2022 12:06

This is a distraction the UK does not need they did hold a party with Wine and cake and singing wether they thought they were above the law I don’t know, more likely they didn’t think, either way the punishment is a fixed penalty for the organizer

Agreed. I think I probably part ways with you at the point of conclusion though, this cabinet have proved themselves a ridiculous distraction and have (possibly) a thread of credibility left domestically and globally. Boris’s government are a liability and should do the decent thing and step aside, the kind of thing a good leader would not need spelled out to them.

itsgettingweird · 26/01/2022 12:07

And 3 minutes in and we've already had "can't comment.....vaccine rollout etc etc"

Roussette · 26/01/2022 12:07

Or sleeping with him

the80sweregreat · 26/01/2022 12:10

I don't care if they had parties at number 10 every single day PRE covid , fill your boots or whichever political party it was having these gatherings or work events , but doing it during a pandemic and when so many other people didn't or couldn't or had no choice to follow these rules ( arrows in tesco was one of the more ridiculous one I grant you ) just makes me mad.
Too many stories to not get a bit fed up and upset about it to be honest , even if others think it's all nothing or just fine because it was our PM breaking them all and yes, Sir if Kier Starmer or any other opposition person also broke the rules at his work event or anywhere else they should be investigated too of course , before anyone starts about this!
PMQs is on now ..

itsgettingweird · 26/01/2022 12:11

This is where Kier being a lawyer benefits him!

Imabouttoexplode · 26/01/2022 12:12

BJ is an absolute embarrassment. How dare he stand up in Parliament and treat it like a stand up comedy show. There are not enough swear words available for me to express my loathing for him.

UnconditionalSurrender · 26/01/2022 12:13

I think the whole out of proportion defence is an odd and not very sophisticated one. It's way past the time when that might have worked, takes people for fools, is not going to convince anyone and enrages them more. I suppose they have nothing left and they have shown themselves to be not very bright.

The question at this point is not whether Johnson is fit to be PM as he is clearly a liar and therefore not. Its what do we do when the major ruling party is still defending this. It's a huge problem.

SirChenjins · 26/01/2022 12:14

Boris really needs to rethink his mop head hairdo, because Keir continues to use it to his advantage and wipes the floor with him. It's actually toe-curling to watch Boris so out of his depth - like watching my son's football team beating another one 12-0.
