To be really enjoying Boris Johnson's downfall Part 2 http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4459992-To-be-really-enjoying-Boris-Johnsons-downfall-Part-2

And on it goes.

He seems to be visiting Penmaenmawr, but all the local press are focusing on his troubles in Westminster. Not 100% clear why he is there.

ConstanceL · 27/01/2022 14:28
@ConstanceL I noticed his behaviour yesterday & thought it more like a spectator at football rather than an MP in the HOP

Turns out he's Jonathan Gullis, MP since 2019 for Stoke in Trent
Previously he worked as a secondary school teacher in Birmingham. Jonathan was a Head of Year and was responsible for the achievement, behaviour and safety of over 250 students. He oversaw whole school attendance for Years 7 to 11 and was also the school trade union representative for the NASUWT.
How I ask myself did a teacher become one of Boris's bawdy boys? Surely, he wouldn't have let his students behave like that? So why did he think its fitting behaviour in the House of Commons?
Interesting that he was a teacher and trade union rep - I wonder if he had some kind of breakdown and somehow re-emerged as a braying Tory, it seems quite the about face to me!

merrymouse · 27/01/2022 14:29

Our masters green credentials come from telling the public what we need to do...

They come from being friends with Zac Goldsmith. The problem is that so many Tory MPs want nothing to do with net zero.

Blossomtoes · 27/01/2022 14:34

The trade union rep is interesting - did he think he was standing for Labour and got confused?

CSWife · 27/01/2022 14:34

All these bloody trips. He's behaving as if he's a member of the Royal Family, not a member of the House of COMMONS.

SueSaid · 27/01/2022 14:36

It is actually part of his job to visit businesses and such, much as that seems to infuriate some of you.
I think it's great he is leading by example not sat trembling at home awaiting Cummings/telly reporters latest 'scoop'.

itsgettingweird · 27/01/2022 14:37

One thing he doesn't do is lead by example Hmm🤣🤣🤣🤣

22itsallnew · 27/01/2022 14:38

@ConstanceL @Blossomtoes it seems he was privately educated himself and takes offence at the term white privilege so has that in common with a lot of his fellow Tory MPs

jgw1 · 27/01/2022 14:39

@Downnotdown

Boris is in north Wales today.

He flew up on the government newly-painted (at a cost of £900K) Airbus this morning.

So much for going green Boris Hmm

Being Green is for other people. Big Baby is far too busy eating cake and being important (but not responsible for anything) to be Green.

Another reason for getting rid of Boris and Carrie and their rewilding shite.

Knowing what laws his government have put before parliament has been part of every Prime Minister's job before Boris. Being responsible for the actions of the ministers they appointed has been the responsibility of every Prime Minister before Boris. Being responsible for the actions of their closest staff in No 10 has been the responsibility of every Prime Minister before Boris.

But now we have a Prime Minister whose job it is to jet around the country doing his clown routine, looking after the pot plants and wine cellar at No 10 and providing amusing interludes for the staff who work in No 10 to raise morale.

Blossomtoes · 27/01/2022 14:43

What example is he leading by going on an unnecessary visit to Wales in a private plane?

Oh, I get it - conspicuous consumption, complete disregard for the environment and entitlement. Not an example I want to emulate.

Go on, try and justify half a mill for Truss to fly to Australia? You probably can find something good / a spin on that one eh ? Good for the economy or some such nonsense when people can't afford to eat or heat their homes ( or even buy a cake to cheer them selves up ) and had UC taken away from them last year too by a man married to a billionaire with twelve houses. Your tories are so good at spending other people's money , whilst taking it away from everyone else. How much is it costing the taxpayer today for Boris to go to wales ? This thread isn't about all this originally but your undying devotion to this crowd is beyond belief at times .

Well hiding in the fridge & contrition was his strategy last week and when it didn't blow over he had to come up with another strategy which appears to be: come out fighting, dismiss it as rhubarb and show that I care about the rest of the UK as Scotland was snubbed last week he'd probably rather be at Perppa Pig World.

You think it's great he is 'leading by example' snort! God help us!

DePfeffoff · 27/01/2022 14:48

But he keeps telling us how he's too busy with Ukraine etc to waste time concentrating on irrelevant stuff like breaking the law, lying to Parliament etc. Yet he has time to dress up in the high viz jacket and gladhand his supporters. Hmmm.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 27/01/2022 14:50

Thought he was supposed to be focusing on the important things like Ukraine, COVID, Brexit fallout and cost of living? Wasn't that why we were all supposed to "move on" from parties? Yet here he is, dressing up in his high viz for photo opps.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 27/01/2022 14:50

Ha great minds @DePfeffoff!

longwayoff · 27/01/2022 14:53

If Mr Gullis has to voted with the issues attributed to him above then he's chosen a very ill-advised new job, as being a Tory MP is not likely to improve things. Ah well. He'll find out soon enough.

22itsallnew · 27/01/2022 14:53

He's just so used to having investigations looking into his dodgy behaviours behind the scenes that it doesn't distract him from his day tripping work nowadays. What he wants to do is distract the public away from the investigations.

longwayoff · 27/01/2022 14:54

Ffs. To voted? To deal with.

borntobequiet · 27/01/2022 14:59

leading by example

Some excellent jokes on this thread.

Arsewangry · 27/01/2022 15:00

Yea I really am enjoying watching it all unfold. I think the report will land very favourably on him though. The anticipation is killing me.

the80sweregreat · 27/01/2022 15:03

He did hide away the other week
Seems he likes to stick to the covid rules when it suits him ( even though he technically didn't have to isolate then as he is tripled jabbed , but I suppose it was probably better that he did this and it was his newborn daughter that was ill etc )
Now, its business as usual .. maybe all this ' I'm sorry ' stuff will make people forget what went on ? I won't but some might.
Plus wasn't there a climate change convention only last year , so why a private jet needed?
We are told to do this and that for the environment whilst they do the other!!
No wonder people don't take much notice

Florianus · 27/01/2022 15:06

So rather than nitpicking about that, let's move forward and note that you accept that he was disobeying the rules for which he as PM carried major responsibility.

No. The rules for which he held joint responsibility. As I keep saying, we do not have a dictator nor even a president in this country, so trying to glam up Johnson as some sort of star is a mistake.

Is that the conduct of a good Prime Minister, especially at a time of major crisis for the country?

Of course not. Why do you even need to ask?

DuncinToffee · 27/01/2022 15:13

Been out all morning, only got ambushed by rain sadly.

Saw this on the Guardian live blog

Labour are considering a 'humble address' motion to compel disclosure of the Sue Gray report in full

Humble address motions are binding on the government and if the motion were to pass - quite a big if, because it would require around 40 Tories to rebel - the document would have to be published.

Hmm will there be 40 'rebels'?
