To be really enjoying Boris Johnson's downfall Part 2 http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4459992-To-be-really-enjoying-Boris-Johnsons-downfall-Part-2

And on it goes.

It's splitting hairs. If the PM gets involved it's going to be 'prioritised'. And the word 'priority' is in one of the emails by the way.

Cornettoninja · 26/01/2022 13:32

Everyone I know in the nhs

Solid pointless second (third,fourth?) hand anecdotal evidence there. ‘Everyone I know’ is second only to ‘some of my best friends are…’

Roussette · 26/01/2022 13:33

truth Yes, why bother?

Defend some of the good Tories, and there are some. Defend a Minister who's done a good job.

But to defend Johnson is just completely embarrassing. I don't get it. It's putting yourself on the same level as him and his character and god knows who would want that.

Florianus · 26/01/2022 13:36

@Blossomtoes

Whilst Labour Mp Lloyd Russell Moyle gets castigated by the Speaker and is asked to withdraw his remark for saying I'd rather be led by a lawyer than a liar

It’s that parliamentary convention nonsense. They can call each other anything they like except a liar. Such bollocks.

As I said yesterday, it is easier to get someone removed from parliament for calling a member a liar than it is to remove a liar (not an original observation, I hasten to add).
DanaCScully · 26/01/2022 13:36

The culture of an organisation starts with its leader. If the leader is a liar and rotten to the core what does that say about the rest of the government?

jgw1 · 26/01/2022 13:39

@truthfullylying

The email says he authorised their evacuation? I'm missing the bit where they were prioritised Hmm pretty weak technicality to try to wriggle out of that one
It comes to something that all the Prime Minister and his fans are good at is wriggling.

Come to think of it I wonder if the robins in the garden are trying to find a worm that could make a good Prime Minister if we need a new one.

Cornettoninja · 26/01/2022 13:40

@truthfullylying sunk cost fallacy, contrarian leanings, paid. Loads of reasons I can think of, none of them great tbh.

It amazes me that people can think that the strength of popular view shouldn’t matter, that’s the basis of democracy surely? Whether you agree with it or not.

I didn’t agree with leaving the European Union but the majority who answered the referendum did therefore that’s what happened.

merrymouse · 26/01/2022 13:42

He had his interior designer round for cake. They sang happy birthday.

People were not allowed to sing at funerals.

Florianus · 26/01/2022 13:43

@longwayoff

Liz Truss is rolling out her new, 'take me seriously, I'm a statesman', voice to show she's a serious contender for PM. She sounds like Thatcher lite. I suppose that's her intention. Shudder.
In my very first job (many decades ago) there was a female head of HR (who sang tenor in the Bach Choir) who used to teach the receptionists that they must always address customers in a deep, rich contralto, as nobody takes notice of girls with silly squeaky voices.

(Sorry about the diversion, but I have never forgotten the comment)

AdamRyan · 26/01/2022 13:43

And if he had had any political nous he would've known to avoid falling out with Cummings. But sadly he has none.
Someone with political nous would have spotted the risks inherent in putting Cummings in their core team in the first place. You reap what you sow.

Roussette · 26/01/2022 13:46

And let's not forget Elizabeth Holmes, Theranos. One of the biggest scandals in USA of late... (brilliant podcast out there, she's just been convicted)
She lowered her voice by about 3 octaves to sound ummm... important and business like

Florianus · 26/01/2022 13:49

@DuncinToffee

His answer to Starmer's question if he could confirm he will publish the full report as he receives it doesn't bode well

PM: when I receive it of course I will do exactly as I said

Laura Kuenssberg says she now thinks the report will be published in full, but that the supporting evidence will not be published for fear of blighting the careers of junior civil servants. Not long to wait to see if she is correct.
Florianus · 26/01/2022 13:53

I suspect that it is more than just Cummings. The latest bombshell (about the Afghan animal rescue) apparently came from a civil servant in Zac Goldsmith's office. It sounds like many civil servants are against the PM (years ago they were not supposed to reveal political affiliations, but that seems to have gone by the board).
truthfullylying · 26/01/2022 13:53

It amazes me that people can think that the strength of popular view shouldn’t matter, that’s the basis of democracy surely? Whether you agree with it or not. IMO not one single MP really thinks that public opinion does not matter. They are just desperatelysaying anything to save their collective bacon now.

AdamRyan · 26/01/2022 13:55

It sounds like many civil servants are against the PM (years ago they were not supposed to reveal political affiliations, but that seems to have gone by the board).
It could be the fact he's a bad boss or they dislike him rather than political affiliations.

Cornettoninja · 26/01/2022 13:56

@truthfullylying it wasn’t MP’s I was talking about tbh.

truthfullylying · 26/01/2022 13:57

It sounds like many civil servants are against the PM (years ago they were not supposed to reveal political affiliations, but that seems to have gone by the board) Being opposed to lying and corruption is not a political position, it is an ethical position. Civil servants, like everyone else, have always been allowed to have ethical positions.

Anyway wrt The latest bombshell (about the Afghan animal rescue) apparently came from a civil servant in Zac Goldsmith's office it was not leaked was it? It went to a committee I thought?

Chucking mud at civil servants is just another desperate tactic to deflect, minimise, bullshit.

longwayoff · 26/01/2022 13:58

Interesting florianus, I wonder how far up the greasy pole she would be if she'd Thatchered her voice earlier in her career. It certainly helped Thatcher who sounded like a battling fishwife before her vocal makeover.

Findingapath · 26/01/2022 14:07

So perfectly summarised
itsgettingweird · 26/01/2022 14:09

Anywayyyy, BJ wiped the floor with whiny 'but party!' Starmer. Again

Say what you like about Boris. But he didn't wipe the floor with him in the slightest. He didn't even manage to get a complete sentence out.

I always listen to wait for Boris to defend himself properly. I voted for him!

But the more the heat him the more I realise he's not the right person for the job anymore.

itsgettingweird · 26/01/2022 14:10

@JaniieJones

'There were enough work events then , all of them work events ? If the Sue Gray report said it was all work events then they wouldn't need the police involved would they ?'

No I'm not suggesting they all were but the 3 person zoom brief Christmas quiz plus cake in the office seemed to be.

If there was a rave in the basement at 1am that doesn't seem like a work do, no. Were any ministers actually there? We'll have to wait and see.

But Boris himself admits the cake was a gathering for his birthday organised by Carrie.

It's a sad position when your defending him for things he's admitted Grin

How nasty
22itsallnew · 26/01/2022 14:16

Do you recall the Tweet the official Civil Service tweet on 24/05/20:

Arrogant and offensive.

Can you imagine having to work with these truth twisters?

Quite.

itsgettingweird · 26/01/2022 14:17

My local councillor is a Tory. But nothing like a Tory! He was also my sociology lecturer at uni Grin

I think he sits Tory because here people vote for the party.

But he does good. He's very aware of social politics and very aware we are in a very split socioeconomic area.

He's secured all sorts with regards public transport and services. Retained the age 60 free bus pass when the council wanted to go to 65 due to later retirement.

But right now Boris isn't showing that their party has people like that. They aren't showing the good the karts can do locally. He's just showing a corrupt government who's prepared to lie to save their own skin.

Figgyroller · 26/01/2022 14:20

Every NHS worker I know spent lockdown lunches having to eat outside (generally shivering) eating food from home. @JaniieJones do you actually KNOW any NHS workers?
