@Lavanderrose it was a surprise party and he knew nothing of it. he will get Sue Gray to lead an enquiry to investigate whether it was a surprise or not..

At this stage, if it transpired that he visited hookers during lockdown, he would probably say he had no idea they were hookers, he had no idea they were there, and he tripped and fell right into them (to put it crudely!). And will need Sue Gray to do another enquiry!

Seemslikeagoodidea · 25/01/2022 01:05

The whole thing has become a total farce now. I hope he goes soon, I've lost all respect for him and his cronies.

Anyone else think Cummings is building to a crescendo?

3Daddy31982 · 25/01/2022 01:13

I think I'd rather have spent lockdown at No 10. Seems a similar vibe to Club 18-30.

Wiredforsound · 25/01/2022 04:08

@Simonjt

It wasn’t a birthday party, they were just trying to branch out as the powerpoints were getting a bit boring.
Next cake please!

Ha, yes, like a frat house!

No wonder they were so slow at decisions on covid, they were working in a drunken haze.

Must all be very upsetting for the bereaved and those who lost their jobs etc.

I think he's definitely working to a grid, just like in the EU referendum.
RockingMyFiftiesNot · 25/01/2022 06:14

* 'Clavinova Do you think it is appropriate for the Prime Minister to be having birthday cake with friends whilst telling children that they cannot do the same*'

'They could meet up with five friends for a birthday party outside I believe - including private gardens from 1 June 2020. Zoos and safari parks could open from 15 June 2020...

If Boris Johnson ate birthday cake for less than 10 minutes at work - I'm not going to condemn him for that.'

I cannot believe that someone is so blinkered and heartless that they believe this is an acceptable response. No wonder Boris thinks he can get away with the most inappropriate (and some of it possibly at that time illegal) behaviour.

I'm not judging Boris for eating cake. I'm judging him for his hypocrisy & inability to lead by example, He's stuck 2 fingers up at everyone who has lost loved ones, lost money, their businesses, their mental health. And you still think it's defensible? God help this country.

@Zotter

the conservatives will always be the party of the sensible.

In 2010 the Condem coalition implemented austerity insisting it was necessary to reduce national debt after 2008 crash. It didn’t reduce the debt it grew significantly. IMF now say austerity was wrong decision straight after a crash, it stymies growth.

Wages in real terms have barely risen since 2010. Those with assets, not income, fared much better since 2010. Inequality is growing wider and wider. In 2009, the combined wealth of the UK's richest 1,000 people was £258billion. By 2020 they had £742billion* - an increase of £484billion. The number of U.K. billionaires jumped by 24 per cent between 2020-2021.

Meanwhile Conservative policies since 2010 have not addressed the inflated housing market affecting young people badly in many areas of U.K. There is also a continued lack of council housing. There have been cuts to disability benefits, social care and legal aid since 2010 due to govt imposed austerity too. Increasing fragmentation of NHS and lowest funding from govt % wise since set up over 75 years ago until 2018. Some increase with CoVid but not enough to make up for low increases.

I certainly can’t view what they have done since being in power this time as sensible.

If you are rich enough to have benefitted and also sufficiently lacking in empathy, then perhaps you think it is sensible?
@MarshaBradyo what are starmer's policies ? No manifesto yet
If you want to start a thread discussing the Labour party policies such as the removal of VAT on fuel feel free to do so. Although some posters might distract it by pointing out all the manifesto pledges Boris' government have failed to keep.

User135644 · 25/01/2022 06:47

@hayley037

There are many who still see Boris, and it is always 'Boris', as a friend. They act like they enjoy his company and are sympathetic to the difficulties of his job. It astonishes me but is testament to the brand strength of 'Boris'.

I honestly think these people are generally a lost cause, they probably support the Tories in the same way that people support football teams too.

They've been played for fools and won't admit it. At least not to others.
Roussette · 25/01/2022 06:49

Do you reckon Carrie will still fancy him when he's not Primeminister anymore?

Oh dear, I read this as ... will Carrie fancy him when he's not Pieminister anymore...

I assume that the interior designer was working in the building that day and I heard Keir Starmer say last week that he had no objection to spouses/partners being in the workplace

And did Keir say it was OK to attend a birthday party in, what I assumed was a restricted area (the Cabinet office).. did he say that? If so... I missed that bit. And the other 30, did Keir say that was OK?
Get on with you and your nonsense!

I’ll wait and see to decide

But yeh not going in to it on this thread will leave it re topic

If the man had any dignity he would have fallen on his sword by now...but he cares more about his job than what is best for the country....but almost worse is that the men I grey put him there and want to keep him there.. it suits them.to have a puppet .

Roussette · 25/01/2022 06:53

What worries me is... every decision he is currently making is to save his skin and stay as PM. Particularly with regard to covid.

I do not believe anything he says. We know for a fact he lies all the time. He does it in PMQ, he does it when interviewed, he skews the truth to make himself look good, and it's very worrying for the country because rationality has gone out the window.

Alexandra2001 · 25/01/2022 06:54

Don't need to spell out why it's bad but in schemes of things it doesn't compare to weak leadership when a dangerous war is brewing

Quite unbelievable.

Can just imagine as war in eastern europe breaks out and rationing/fuels shortages bite, you'll be the first to welcome Bozo having feasts and the heating on at 25C well the rest of us go hungry and cold.

Leadership is about setting an example, Bojo can't, he is in the wrong job.

But tbh the longer he stays and the more people like you and Clav support him, the more he damages the Con party :)

Exactly this. He's only lifted restrictions as he feels its the popular thing to do amongst his backbenchers. No harms in keeping them for another month of winter to help support the NHS

Its actually even worse than that. The restrictions needed renewing this week as Plan B was time limited to a month, but Boris knows he does not have the votes to get it through parliament again.
Similarly the overall covid law - isolation when infected and so on times out in March and he has already said he is too weak to extend it.

What fine weak leadership is being shown.

Roussette · 25/01/2022 07:04

It's a complete and utter shambles.

I dread to think what it's like within No.10. Because he presides over an 'anything goes' culture. We are above the law, do what you want.

I don't care if he ate cake. I care that the 30 people think it's OK to gather in a room like this. They know Johnson allows a party culture.

The fish rots from the head.

What baffles me is the complete lack of any strategy to deal with the continuing stories of parties. Where is the media strategy? They must know what parties there have been, so surely they should be ready for them to break, and yet the best they can do is wheel out Bone and Fabricant.
3Daddy31982 · 25/01/2022 07:12

I too had similar days at Uni. I wasn't leading the UK though...

3Daddy31982 · 25/01/2022 07:13

Sorry probably being thick what is bone and fabricant?

PermanentTemporary · 25/01/2022 07:14

Johnson is weak. Too weak to lead on restrictions like this, too weak to upset people by saying 'i know you organised this for me but you shouldn't have done it, it stops now.' Tbh the fact that people were organising events like this demonstrates how weak he is. He's a liar. People lie when they're not strong enough to deal with the truth. If I were in a room with Putin I'd rather have Starmer with me than Johnson. I'd in fact rather have Rayner than Sunak, though I'd like Starmer to be there as well.

Anyway, it's of course not up to us, the Tory Party is sorting out who runs the country internally.

Im2022 · 25/01/2022 07:14

Can Labour push for a GE now? When is the next one due in 2023? The one in 2019 was 6 months early wasn’t it?

3Daddy31982 · 25/01/2022 07:15

Ah the guy with the Boris coiffeuse?
