Here's mine:

Otrivine nasal spray is an absolute saviour! I only discovered it last year and I've had some absolutely horrendous colds made better by using this stuff. It completely clears your nose within minutes. I went from not being able to breathe through my nose at all, to being able to sleep through the night with my airways clear. Amazing.

Would love to some other good medicine cabinet tip offs!

@IsThisAkissingBook you can buy promethazine over the counter in chemists, often branded as phenergan for travel sickness / sleep / allergies. You should check with the pharmacist if you take other meds though.

Actifed would be on my list. Like sudofed but better. Dries up runny noses and clears blocked noses.

Also piriton cream for bites / stings.

justasking111 · 23/01/2022 23:45

Maalox for acid indigestion wakes me up in the night one glug and I'm back to sleep in no time

concernedalot · 23/01/2022 23:47

piriton liquid or tablets for allergies and or hayfever or weird reactions (everyone should have some of these in their cupboards just in case- thinking insect stings, drug reactions etc0
Sudocrem - the cream of the gods, helps mini lacerations, excema, weird red bits you're not sure about but a bit of sudo on it
Night nurse - it's the gift of the gods. Got a bit of a cold, can't sleep? this will push you on your way, not to be used regularly though. Helped me massively through covid
Vaseline - any dry sore bits or sore wounds or cuts to keep them moisturised this does the job
calamine lotion - great for itching, though mainly chicken pox, keep in the fridge for extra bonus of the cool
eucalyptus/vicks always great for colds, sinus congestion
lemsips when you're in full on cold verging on flu symptoms

MrsDamonSalvatore · 24/01/2022 00:27

Volterol gel. Brilliant!

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 24/01/2022 00:59

@DilemmaDelilah

Definitely sudocrem - also really great for chub rub. Bronchostop for annoying tickmy coughs. Cetirazine hay fever remedy - just half a tablet gives me an excellent night's sleep - and seems to work for the next night too. (Disclaimer - this is NOT what they are meant for but it works for me)
I wish cetirizine did that for me Grin I take 4 a day
Thelnebriati · 24/01/2022 01:03

I had dental traumas last year and I dont know how I would have got through it without Orajel dental anasthetic.
I also had a wierd reaction to an insect bite during the mini heatwave, and thankfully had some antihistamine tablets and cream.

ozymandiusking · 24/01/2022 01:25

TCP great for cuts grazes stings spots, Sore throats. Use 1 capful of tcp to 5 parts warm water for gargling.
Voltarol gell
Arnica
Buscopan (IBS)
Cystitis crystals takes the sting away, before access to antibiotics
E4 creme Great for sore bottoms ( after curry) type things, dry skin.all sorts.

dipdye · 24/01/2022 01:36

Sinus medicine is great for headaches. Not sure if that's relevant here

RavenBrooke · 24/01/2022 01:52

Superdrug own brand migraine tablets.

L-lysine 1000mg for coldsores. I take one everyday, very rarely get them now unless I'm really run down/stressed. Highly recommend if you get them often( I once went 3 months with never ending coldsores, this is what sorted it out)

Fybogel sachets, started suffering from constipation during pregnancy, dc nearly a Yr old still have to take a couple of these a week. Works really well when I take them though.

4head balm for headaches. Don't help with the headache, but am addicted to putting it on every night. 😁The menthol on my forehead just feels soothing...

Gilead · 24/01/2022 01:57

Oragel is brilliant for teeth and ulcers.
Also rose salve for dry skin and sore patches.
Buscopan peppermint for stomach cramps.

Midlander88 · 24/01/2022 02:01

ORS / oral rehydration tablets - for hangovers!

GromblesofGrimbledon · 24/01/2022 02:07

Benzoyl peroxide (acnecide) keeps painful cystic acne at bay.

Olbas oil because I'm a permanently snotty person.

Metanium nappy rash cream. Baby doesn't suffer with nappy rash thank goodness but the occasional redness is gone overnight with the tiniest smear of this stuff.

Sterimar saline nasal spray does wonders for stuffy nose baby.

Finger strip bandages- long plasters specifically for cuts on fingers. Love them!

When I suffered with a throat infection on holiday in Italy it was possible to get a sort of soother sweet over the counter that had a numbing agent in it. My god I loved them. Got me through the holiday. I wish you could buy something like that in the UK.

Nat6999 · 24/01/2022 02:10

Beconase, stops bunged up noses with colds.
Sudacrem
Night Nurse
Loperamide tablets
Vicks Vapourub
Germaloids Cream brilliant for sore bums with diarrhoea.
Witch Hazel, I nick this to use as a toner.

Yarnivore · 24/01/2022 02:10

Tiger Balm - for muscle aches, decongesting and for bites.

MrsMonkeyBear · 24/01/2022 05:12

Difflam Spray - not just for throats but great for kids with sore gums from teeth falling out.

Day/Night Nurse - day nurse as tablets and Night liquid

Burn gel - this is a work related thing but it's helpful

Rehydration drink sachets - not just for stomach bugs. I use it when I'm ill in any way

liveforsummer · 24/01/2022 05:18

Covonia throat spray, stronger than the diflam you have to ask for it over the counter but I used to be plagued with tonsillitis but not had it in years since I started attacking with this at the slightest hint of a sore throat. Anadin extra. Only shelf pain killer that is actually any good.

Dita73 · 24/01/2022 05:22

Motilium used to be brilliant for nausea but they discontinued it. Following what @Graphista said about Refreshers,a great tip to help nausea are the Love Heart sweets. No idea how they work but they do

ParadiseLaundry · 24/01/2022 07:12

For trapped wind and reflux - refreshers! I shit you not! Relieves the problem without causing diarrhoea the next day and far more pleasant than meds

Ooh, I've heard they're really good for heartburn too!

RonCarlos · 24/01/2022 07:45

I have a packet of Love Hearts in mine for trapped wind!

Caramellatteplease · 24/01/2022 07:52

Reusable cold/heat pack!
Migraine, cold pack. Bruising cold pack. Sprain cold pain. Muscle Pain hot pack. Toothache cold pack. If it feels hot or throws use a cold pack.

Arnica cream. Incredible for bruising

VitalsStable · 24/01/2022 07:56

@UncomfortableBadger

Peroxyl mouthwash - not just excellent for sore gums but I gargle with some each time I feel the faintest inkling of a sore throat and it disappears entirely overnight. It’s stopped several colds in their tracks for me over the years
You can make your own using hydrogen peroxide from the chemist. It's really cheap and you just mix it with water. Gets rid of sore throats and any sort of infection, ingrown toenail, whitlow infection and massive spots.
Vampirethriller · 24/01/2022 08:07

Brulidine cream, it's antiseptic and antibacterial and works through blood and pus if you've got a messy cut that won't stop leaking. You can use it on animals too. It's brilliant.

Maflingo · 24/01/2022 08:13

For anyone spending £5+ for a packet of feminax period pain - have a look at own brand Ibuprofen Lysine 342mg - Tesco and wilko definitely both do it for just over £1 a pack. I think boots does too but I recall it still being more expensive. Sometimes it is marketed as migraine relief, but it’s the lysine form of ibuprofen that is the magic!!
Helps me not just with period pain, but also the dizziness/nausea that I often get.

ShinySquirrel · 24/01/2022 12:13

MENTHOL CRYSTALS.

Yes, I am shouting. Because that is what they do to your head. We drop a tiny amount into a mug of hot water, and inhale. You don't need a towel over your head. You will see music and hear the stars, but your Olbas oil/Vicks resistant congestion will be gone.

Magnesium sulphate paste, for all the other reasons already mentioned.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/01/2022 12:17

Definitely otravine and anadin extra.
