To think Adele’s been shockingly unprofessional?

Adele was due to start a Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace this weekend and cancelled the entire thing less than 24 hours ahead of time, saying they weren’t ready for a number of different reasons.

FIL had bought tickets to the opening night for himself and MIL as a 40th wedding anniversary present, they had pretty much just checked into their hotel when she announced it wasn’t going ahead, and the cost of that and their flights is now money down the drain. DH and I and BIL and SIL were planning on taking them away for a family weekend at Easter but have instead offered to pay for travel and accommodation when (if?) it gets rescheduled.

I get that covid is fucking a lot of things up for a lot of people, but surely they could have faced reality a bit sooner? Even one more day’s notice would have saved so many people taking flights and checking into hotel rooms that they could have rebooked or been refunded for.

She chose to put out a filmed apology where she cried. She could have filmed a few more takes and did one where she was poised and professional without all the drama.

Mistymoors · 22/01/2022 09:59

@Nitgel your comment made me laugh! reminded me of my mum ringing the burger restaurant I had a Saturday job in and telling ‘Mr Wimpy ‘ I wasn’t well ! * alcohol induced

SensiTreev · 22/01/2022 09:59

Maybe she needs to go for the immersive digital concert experience like Abba? However, she seems a bit dim and so overrated, there'll be otter artists successful exploring this avenue.

ADialgaAteMyDog · 22/01/2022 09:59

@BalloonSlayer

A friend was due to see her a couple of years ago (didn't think it was as long ago as 2017 but perhaps it was) but the concert got cancelled, it was one of the last of the tour.

Due to this, had I been wanting to see Adele in Vegas I would definitely have booked one of the earlier performances, because I don't think she has the staying power to see out a long season. But now she is cancelling the start!

She will soon just be regarded as unreliable and people won't risk booking at all for fear of her bailing on them.

I'm sure she's cancelled more than this and 2017. My friend loves her music but refuses to see her live as she's been cancelled on twice. I knew she wouldn't go through with this set of shows!
MarshaBradyo · 22/01/2022 09:59

I had no idea where she was from eg US etc, her speaking voice sounded different to what I expected

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2022 10:01

Thing is, people say people wouldn’t fly to Vegas to see her but fact is they would if that was the only place she was performing

Would they though? A ten hour flight and all that £££ during a pandemic? You would have to be some sort of mega fan to consider it.

BoodleBug51 · 22/01/2022 10:04

I think she's realised that her voice isn't up to it - she's been plagued with vocal issues throughout her career and she doesn't have the sort of voice that can endure live singing. Especially over 24 dates.

She should never have committed to it in the first place. She should stick to what she knows, which is recording dirgeful self indulgences about her poor poor life Hmm

3luckystars · 22/01/2022 10:04

Sorry I take back what I said, she DOES have a history of cancelling. She is not in the right business so.

Justilou1 · 22/01/2022 10:04

Really? How would she perform? Half a band? Playing the tambourine? Did you watch the thing? She hasn’t got the crew she needs because half of them has COVID. The rehearsal schedule has gone to fuck as a result also. The VERY strict isolating protocols around this would mean that it would have been stop and start all the way through. All performance industries are fucked at the moment. Adele was shattered and she was at least brutally honest.

emuloc · 22/01/2022 10:04

I think she is overhyped, and just an average singer. I think that she has treated her fans shoddily. Why cancel all the dates?

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 22/01/2022 10:06

@AlphabetStew

OMG I didn't realise it was cancelled at such short notice! That is awful. Is there any way of getting some of the costs back? Adele(s insurance) really should be helping out massively here.
What Insurance do you imagine she has for this? (Clue - there isn’t any)
peaceanddove · 22/01/2022 10:07

I think it's pathetic. These Vegas shows are huge, multi million dollar events. They spend months preparing and rehearsing for them relentlessly. Adele's show should have been complete weeks ago, and since then it should have just been rehearsals and rehearsals and rehearsals.

They simply don't throw these shows together last minute. So losing some crew members to Covid over the last week, or two, should be neither here nor there.

Basically she just hasn't been arsed to prepare or rehearse for quite a while. It's pathetic and incredibly unprofessional and she should be ashamed.

Correction: some kind of mega fan, who hasn't been previously burnt by one of her other cancellations.

If you have been done for it before, then why would you risk it again, if you thought the excuse was weak?

Anna10309 · 22/01/2022 10:07

The right thing would be for her to refund people on a portion of flights and expenses paid. She will lose alot of fans after this.

WhosThatBehindTheFlask · 22/01/2022 10:10

It's the cancelling of the whole shebang that spells out bullshit to me. Last minute delays are understandable and so I could see this meaning the first week or so might need to be cancelled. But all 24 shows?

No way. This is something else. Whatever it is, I wouldn't trust spending big money on Adele live in the future.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/01/2022 10:10

i think the fuss about adele has been overtaken by the news of the death of meatloaf - in my mind it has anyway
she should get over herself

sweetbellyhigh · 22/01/2022 10:11

Yes I'm sure that with your years of experience of being a global superstar you are well placed to critique the management of this 🙄

Or

You could listen

And learn

DestroyerOfHouseplants · 22/01/2022 10:12

@AlternativePerspective

Apparently Harry Styles has done similar. Has cancelled an entire tour and told his fans they can have priority tickets for the replacement one. Except that instead of 8 tour dates there are now only 3.
We are in this particular boat and you can only get priority tickets if you are an O2 customer.

Yeah cos theres no professional musicians who you would have as an understudy for such a huge $$$$$ show that you would have under protocol. And stripped back shows are dreadful and never appreciated by mega fans. And this affects multiple shows over multiple weeks.

Honestly it disturbs me how many people buy into this drivel and don't think that a huge vegas show shouldn't be well planned and have contingency in place...

Isaidachangewoulddoyougood · 22/01/2022 10:12

While I get that it’s disappointing - I don’t think a holiday in Vegas is anything to be sniffed at. There’s plenty of other things to do

VivX · 22/01/2022 10:13

Flaky, insincere and over-dramatic with ridiculous crocodile tears. And apparently with terrible management too.

"We weren't ready"?! What the heck?
Everyone involved with that no-show needs to pull themselves together or choose a new career.

thecatsthecats · 22/01/2022 10:14

To put it in context, in Vegas, they build entire hotels and casinos in mere days because as soon as they're up, they can be making millions. It's worth it.

If a city is always prepared for a show, it's Vegas.

Either they didn't have any sort of plans for contingency, or there are big lies going on here. And if I were Caesars, I'd be furious!

CPL593H · 22/01/2022 10:14

I'm not a fan but from what I've heard/read, she is not a natural live performer and doesn't actually enjoy it, so no chance of her doing "a piano and a mic" type pared back performance where you are utterly exposed.

If this had to be cancelled, it should have been done at an earlier stage and the whole thing shows disrespect for her fans. Screams 'diva' to me, I'm afraid.

Isaidachangewoulddoyougood · 22/01/2022 10:14

@daimbarsatemydogsbone clue - of course there is insurance. It’s one of the highest costs for live shows.

Applesonthelawn · 22/01/2022 10:15

@Eesha

Adele actually really gets on my nerves these days, she's gone all Hollyweird generally and actually I think her music feels so dated.
Agree totally with this. One trick pony, poor business sense.
