To think Adele’s been shockingly unprofessional?

Adele was due to start a Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace this weekend and cancelled the entire thing less than 24 hours ahead of time, saying they weren’t ready for a number of different reasons.

FIL had bought tickets to the opening night for himself and MIL as a 40th wedding anniversary present, they had pretty much just checked into their hotel when she announced it wasn’t going ahead, and the cost of that and their flights is now money down the drain. DH and I and BIL and SIL were planning on taking them away for a family weekend at Easter but have instead offered to pay for travel and accommodation when (if?) it gets rescheduled.

I get that covid is fucking a lot of things up for a lot of people, but surely they could have faced reality a bit sooner? Even one more day’s notice would have saved so many people taking flights and checking into hotel rooms that they could have rebooked or been refunded for.

@RedToothBrush i never mentioned being pregnant affected her vocal cords 😂
And how is it a sexist comment, dont be so ridiculous.

I mentioned it because it could be likely.

MiloAndEddie · 25/01/2022 07:14

Peter Kay also didn’t cancel with 24 hours to go and it was all in this country so people far less affected by expensive travel and hotels

MaxNormal · 25/01/2022 07:26

DH works in the industry and she's a nightmare apparently. People that worked on her previous shows were made to line up and thank her for the work!

WeAreTheHeroes · 25/01/2022 07:47

Agree about Coldplay being amazing live - and that's just from seeing them at Glastonbury on the telly. I'd never thought much of them before if I'm honest, but it was brilliant and changed my view of them.

queenofarles · 25/01/2022 09:21

Coldplay are amazing , Fix you performed live in Paris is one of the most beautiful performances by any band. violet hill was very understated and cleverly covered all the mess that was going on at that time from wars, politics , religion, the unofficial video was brilliant, making all these politicians look like clowns . Grin

threecupsofteaminimum · 25/01/2022 10:01

I think she's unprofessional, she could've done the shows, she only needs a microphone.

justasking111 · 25/01/2022 13:57

She's not the brightest bulb in the box like Elvis the management can manipulate with ease. Ditto with Elvis looking back

Her ex husband would have been an asset but she didn't like that

justasking111 · 25/01/2022 14:01

Google Simon Konecki he was intelligent could probably see the manipulation going on which was his downfall

sweetbellyhigh · 26/01/2022 06:46

@Pikaso

Oh fuck off Rebecca, he did not say that
This is my favourite post out of all Mumsnet. Thank you 🙏

No to Adele, no to Coldplay. Both artists who had something when they first started and have completely sold out. Great
music should be about integrity, and using sound to express human emotion in a way other mediums can’t. Money, and a focus on commercialism completely dilutes that.

I can think of many great artists who have achieved great longevity and stayed true to themselves. P J Harvey is one. Think ‘new’ music is really, really lacking right now. I’m looking more to composers like Nils Frahm, Mica Levi.

I’ve always though music loses something when it becomes too audience friendly. It should be honest, and commercial music is often dishonest.

WeAreTheHeroes · 26/01/2022 13:06

That's a blinkered view in my opinion. There's nothing wrong with giving people what they want rather than challenging them or ploughing a self-indulgent furrow no one else is interested in.

Verv · 26/01/2022 13:28

One of my colleagues was going to see her this weekend in Vegas.
On hearing the news came out with "F it, im seeing Lionel Richie, prefer him anyway"

About sums it up really.

Greyhop · 26/01/2022 13:41

I strongly feel that music, art, literature etc should not be about ‘giving people what they want’. Absolutely not.

Greyhop · 26/01/2022 13:44

If you watch someone like Kurt Cobain perform, you can see it’s genuinely coming from his soul. He had a huge problem with his music becoming so popular and the demands of his record company.

Mia184 · 26/01/2022 13:51

Here is another opinion on the cancellation - it is from the NY Post though: pagesix.com/2022/01/25/adele-couldnt-get-through-rehearsal-without-sobbing/

It IS a pity when a ‘niche’ (for want of a better word) artiste sells out. However it’s their choice as to whether they want to stay true to their art, or chase money. Can’t blame them for choosing the latter. If they have enough of a following they can leave and start their own record companies.

‘Popular’ art, music, literature has its place. I go to niche gigs regularly (I don’t know what genre it is so CS be say), jazz bands, classical music. I’ve read James Joyce’s Ulysses
That doesn’t mean I don’t want some upbeat pop when cooking/exercising. Or that I don’t enjoy a couple of thrillers/romances to unwind…

Againstmachine · 26/01/2022 16:48

The parents can still go there's plenty of fantastic things to do in Vegas, and other shows to see, I don't get why you would go just to see one thing.

The crying was pathetic.she isn't really losing out.

That said Adele is overrated her music and performance there is nothing up with it, it's just middle of road nothing that for me puts her up there.

peaceanddove · 26/01/2022 17:26

Right, so according to the New York Times she had a bust up with her boyfriend, so threw a tantrum and cancelled everything.

Classy. Very classy.

It's all commercial though and always has been. The books that get published are the ones publishers think there's an audience for and therefore profits to be made.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 26/01/2022 18:33

Or wait nearly 5 years and there will be a song about it.

BoodleBug51 · 26/01/2022 18:52

Whatever the reason, I think she's committed career suicide with this.

She's lost any credibility as an artist with it.
