To think Adele’s been shockingly unprofessional?

Adele was due to start a Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace this weekend and cancelled the entire thing less than 24 hours ahead of time, saying they weren’t ready for a number of different reasons.

FIL had bought tickets to the opening night for himself and MIL as a 40th wedding anniversary present, they had pretty much just checked into their hotel when she announced it wasn’t going ahead, and the cost of that and their flights is now money down the drain. DH and I and BIL and SIL were planning on taking them away for a family weekend at Easter but have instead offered to pay for travel and accommodation when (if?) it gets rescheduled.

I get that covid is fucking a lot of things up for a lot of people, but surely they could have faced reality a bit sooner? Even one more day’s notice would have saved so many people taking flights and checking into hotel rooms that they could have rebooked or been refunded for.

Those saying she's been made to do things by her management company, well then she needs to remind them she's Adele and threaten to change management company and they'll soon pipe down.

Moonface123 · 22/01/2022 14:57

Same for Peter Kay and stage fright, he also cancelled and never rescheduled.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 22/01/2022 15:00

@Butteryflakycrust83

Sorry but none of you know what you are talking about.

This will have had nothing to do with Adele.

Its basically impossible for promoters to get covid insurance, which means that they have to postpone rather than cancel and lose everything.

Check your tickets, and always take the insurance.

And maybe think twice about travelling so far got a gig during pandemic for an industry thats on its knees.

I’m willing to wager that these shows never get rescheduled

I mean is it really money down the drain? Vegas is great fun and there's tons of other shows they need to cop on and just make the best of it. She's very unprofessional but I have little sympathy for attitudes that they might as well fly home now Grin

Pretty sure he cancelled as his mum died.
Flowertailbird · 22/01/2022 15:02

I watched it and just thought ffs get over yourself woman. Crying like that on a video just made her look stupid and to say 'the show ain't happening ' so flippantly with her bear claw nails flying about the screen was beyond annoying.

MondayYogurt · 22/01/2022 15:05

Yeah, lame. Although I'm curious how on earth your FIL managed to get hold of first show tickets - rarer than hens teeth.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 22/01/2022 15:06

Gawd cus there’s nothing else to do in Vegas what a shame

DeliriaSkibbly · 22/01/2022 15:07

@GellerYeller

I have a question for those in the know. The insurance that places such as Ticketmaster try to sell you at the time of purchase: what does that cover? If the event is cancelled you get a refund regardless and if it's postponed there's a period you can get refunded otherwise they hold your tickets for the new date. Presumably situations like being out thousands on flights and hotels like those in Vegas now aren't covered by any kind of policy?
Getting insurance to cover direct losses (eg the price of a ticket when the show is cancelled and refunds aren't forthcoming) is fairly straightforward.

Insurance to cover losses incurred because of that is much harder to get because the amounts can quickly spiral out of control, and it's very difficult to say what losses have truly been incurred as a consequence.

For example, the cost of the plane tickets might seem an obvious item, but did you literally fly to (in this case) Las Vegas solely to watch Adele and then fly home again ? Probably not, so you received a benefit (ie a holiday) even though you didn't see Adele.

jamandmarmaladethesecondcoming · 22/01/2022 15:09

Or has Covid and furlough/job losses have meant Asele has not sold enough concert tickets

Whatever the reason, if you know 2 weeks before you go live that you are not ready then you announce it to give fans notice.

Last minute is not good enough.

People will have booked time off work for this and they won't get their annual leave back.

A bit of professional courtesy...

PinkSyCo · 22/01/2022 15:13

It’s awful that people have had their money wasted, but at the end of the day Adele is a human being not a machine and we have no idea what’s going on with her mentally or otherwise behind closed doors.

Seemslikeagoodidea · 22/01/2022 15:15

The fact she's cancelled the whole run of shows makes me think it's more likely to be issues with her voice/stagefright, rather than staff shortages due to Covid. Also, I think she could have given more notice, and perhaps only cancelled the first few shows, then simplified/stripped down the stage act to make it possible to do the other concerts. That way fewer people would be disappointed and she would take the pressure off herself a bit.

Sadly, for all her down to earth demeanour, she seems to have become a bit of a drama queen.

Goldfishbowls · 22/01/2022 15:15

COVID has really screwed up the entertainment business. Maybe the back up plans for replacement crew and deliveries fell through last minute? For the fans out in Las Vegas it’s going to be an expensive cancellation for them and really disappointing but these aren’t normal times.

GellerYeller · 22/01/2022 15:18

@DeliriaSkibbly thanks that is helpful to know!

jamandmarmaladethesecondcoming · 22/01/2022 15:22

If she has mental health issues then i am genuinely sorry but she/her advisors coulf have announced this 2 weeks or even a week ago.

I think then the fans and also for her own sake the news would have been slightly easier to accept.

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 22/01/2022 15:23

@VashtaNerada

I agree. I was thinking she could offer people a choice of rebooking for the full show or coming anyway and doing an ‘evening with Adele’ type thing where she chats, sings with minimal backup etc. For a fan that might even be more special! I can’t imagine paying all that money to go all the way to Vegas for that to happen.
This is exactly what I thought Vashta, although I think the scaled back gig should have been offered as well as I refund or rescheduled ticket. Plus she's presumably a billionaire, putting some money where her mouth is would have endeared her more to me than all the weeping and wailing.
NameChangesforNoman · 22/01/2022 15:26

The fact she went out there with that video has to be against good advice from her PR team so I suspect that she’s not been the best team player and that’s been part of the reason it’s all fallen apart.

Aphrodite31 · 22/01/2022 15:31

She could just have sat on a broken chair and sung and would have been respected for that.

What she's done is bollocks.

It's actually kind of a disgrace.

I think she could still just get out there and sing. Nothing fancy needed.

sweetbellyhigh · 22/01/2022 15:34

I watched it.

I am sure she went against any professional advice because it was a mess.

I think she just seemed extremely tired and emotional, and that it came from a good place.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 22/01/2022 15:37

I watched it and felt my inner Nan try to break free.

To think Adele’s been shockingly unprofessional?
rwalker · 22/01/2022 15:40

Piss poor as if they couldn't see this coming should o had plan A.B and C in place .
If it meant that much to her sure they could of done a short acoustic set ( which she has done many times ) .

Twattergy · 22/01/2022 15:40

I'm lucky enough to have heard Adele.sing, just her and a piano for a small studio performance.(this is about 11 years ago). It was stunning and I don't get why she couldn't have at least done a shorter show like that, and made a positive of it.

RedToothBrush · 22/01/2022 15:41

The tour was announced on 30th November. Tickets went on sale on the 7th.

Omicron was already 'a thing' by then.

It was NUTS to go ahead even at that point.

DaggerIsle · 22/01/2022 15:45

Totally beside the point but I can't get over those ticket prices...
I just spent 70 pounds on The Cure tickets. Most I've ever spent on a gig but one of my favourite bands since I was a child and it was my last favourite band to see live.

Floisme · 22/01/2022 15:47

I am reminded of Jessie J at Glastonbury 10 years ago: singing from a chair with her foot in a pot.
Similar solutions were available to Adele surely? This is supposed to be a creative industry.
