To think Adele’s been shockingly unprofessional?

Adele was due to start a Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace this weekend and cancelled the entire thing less than 24 hours ahead of time, saying they weren’t ready for a number of different reasons.

FIL had bought tickets to the opening night for himself and MIL as a 40th wedding anniversary present, they had pretty much just checked into their hotel when she announced it wasn’t going ahead, and the cost of that and their flights is now money down the drain. DH and I and BIL and SIL were planning on taking them away for a family weekend at Easter but have instead offered to pay for travel and accommodation when (if?) it gets rescheduled.

I get that covid is fucking a lot of things up for a lot of people, but surely they could have faced reality a bit sooner? Even one more day’s notice would have saved so many people taking flights and checking into hotel rooms that they could have rebooked or been refunded for.

She runs the risk now of being uninsurable

justasking111 · 22/01/2022 14:21

She's surrounded by leeches

Soontobe60 · 22/01/2022 14:22

@Mumoftwoinprimary

From what she has said roughly half her team has Covid. Presumably they all came down with it one at a time so it started with:-

Jack’s got Covid - it’s ok George can do his bit.
Fred’s got Covid - ok Susan can do his bit.
Now Susan’s got Covid- ok Lucy can do her bit and Sarah can do Fred’s bit.
Now Lucy’s got Covid…..

Presumably they suddenly hit a point where it just couldn’t happen. So I do have sympathy.

But…..

in the end - everyone just wants to hear Adele sing. The pyrotechnics or whatever she was doing are undoubtedly fun but it is all about the singing with Adele.

And it doesn’t take much of a crew to sit her on a stool and get her to sing.

She could give everyone a choice - come now - it’ll be basic but I’ll be singing. Or money back. Or tickets to a new date.

I suspect most people would come now. And then boast for years about how they got a “more intimate, more personal” Adele concert!

All it needed was 1 person to press ‘play’ on a backing track, and Adele to sing. Sure, that wouldn’t be as good as a live band, costume changes and all the fancy stuff you get with a Vegas show, but it would still have been Adele singing!
Trilley · 22/01/2022 14:25

@Justilou1

Really? How would she perform? Half a band? Playing the tambourine? Did you watch the thing? She hasn’t got the crew she needs because half of them has COVID. The rehearsal schedule has gone to fuck as a result also. The VERY strict isolating protocols around this would mean that it would have been stop and start all the way through. All performance industries are fucked at the moment. Adele was shattered and she was at least brutally honest.
That's why you rehearse and isolate with understudies and under-understudies and have a big potential replacement crew, so that there's always someone ready to step in at short notice if necessary. All over the country performers are working that way.
LostFrog · 22/01/2022 14:27

I completely agree. If she had covid fair enough but literally everyone else involved should be replaceable. Money can’t be any object surely. And the entire run has been cancelled, not just the first few dates.
I agree with PP that the teary video was cringe.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 22/01/2022 14:27

Any excuse to post this. Bill Bailey’s song for Adele - starts 2mins into clip

Justgettingbye · 22/01/2022 14:28

I think she bottled it tbh and it was all excuses

Oblomov22 · 22/01/2022 14:30

Her announcement was shockingly unprofessional. I'd be furious if I'd paid a lot to travel and see her, accommodation costs etc.

Sportslady44 · 22/01/2022 14:31

foul mouthed boring chav who cares more fool those who paid.

RedToothBrush · 22/01/2022 14:33

Come get your free gift bag, in my store (which amazingly i did get to open on time)

This of course, isn't a marketing ploy to try and shift more stuff that might go to landfill when the residency is binned...

Butteryflakycrust83 · 22/01/2022 14:34

Sorry but none of you know what you are talking about.

This will have had nothing to do with Adele.

Its basically impossible for promoters to get covid insurance, which means that they have to postpone rather than cancel and lose everything.

Check your tickets, and always take the insurance.

And maybe think twice about travelling so far got a gig during pandemic for an industry thats on its knees.

Ellowyn · 22/01/2022 14:35

I know very little about this woman but from what I do know it seems the only nice thing about her is her voice.

The silly woman was giving drink vouchers to underage fans to make up for canceling her show. That is against the law in the U.S. It's called Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.

You have to be 21 to drink here.

Theluggage15 · 22/01/2022 14:36

As people keep pointing out , if the issue is covid and delivery delays as she claims, that doesn’t explain cancelling the whole season. The only thing that explains that is her not wanting to do it.

She clearly doesn’t like performing live so just be a recording artist but stop letting people down. She has a lot of past form for this and for saying she’ll reschedule but then never does. My daughter tried to get Hyde Park tickets, I’m glad she didn’t manage now as presumably Adele will duck out of that too.

Tours are run on a tight budget. Cancelling a week of shows can make the whole thing financially unviable.

Again, please, stop talking about something you have no knowledge of.

GlasgowBirthdayCake · 22/01/2022 14:40

If it is mental health related or anxiety, wouldn’t it have been better for her just to say so? People would understand that better than saying she’s not ready.

Ah yes, of course. It's the fault of the people who paid quite a lot of money to go and see a singer they really like.

Or, she could just be an unprofessional, second-rate, over-hyped performer who's been caught with her knickers down (metaphorically) and is trying to garner sympathy with crocodile tears.

As has been mentioned up-thread, other performers have churned out professional shows on-time and as-advertised in Las Vegas recently, so what's her excuse ?

Theluggage15 · 22/01/2022 14:51

I’ll say what I like thanks @Butteryflakycrust83.You’re not in charge and I don’t think you have any more idea than anyone else. It’s not a tour for a story, it’s a residency - big difference.

The crew could have easily been replaced and insurance generally covers all contingencies, including part cancellation. Cancelling a couple of shows would not make the whole thing financially unviable, how ridiculous.

OhWhyNot · 22/01/2022 14:51

We would certainly know if it was a mh issues

She is very LA now she has changed outpouring of personal pain is applauded it’s not something to be dealt with personally

It’s covid. It was a risk put the plan was a comeback album and tour and it’s backfired

Should have been better thought out but then it wouldn’t have been such an event and that sadly is what is leading the way not talent or love of music

Theluggage15 · 22/01/2022 14:51

*for a start

GellerYeller · 22/01/2022 14:52

I have a question for those in the know. The insurance that places such as Ticketmaster try to sell you at the time of purchase: what does that cover?
If the event is cancelled you get a refund regardless and if it's postponed there's a period you can get refunded otherwise they hold your tickets for the new date.
Presumably situations like being out thousands on flights and hotels like those in Vegas now aren't covered by any kind of policy?

Postdatedpandemic · 22/01/2022 14:53

OK @Butteryflakycrust83 so why didn't she just make a video saying that she was postponing due to Covid making the residency financially unviable?

bonfireheart · 22/01/2022 14:53

When she released her new album, radio 1 was behaving like Jesus himself had risen. She has an amazing voice but calm down.

SantaClawsServiette · 22/01/2022 14:54

She seems like she's been kind of a mess for a while now, and I don't think she looks like her health is very good either.

FrippEnos · 22/01/2022 14:55

Butteryflakycrust83

Yup fine

And maybe think twice about travelling so far got a gig during pandemic for an industry thats on its knees.

Lets try and twist this so its the fans fault.

Moonface123 · 22/01/2022 14:55

Its more likely stage fright . She said she often throws up before performing, she suffers panic attacks.
I would imagine her greedy manangement are gutted.
I doubt she will agree to do big shows like this again, she prefers much smaller venues.
