To think Adele’s been shockingly unprofessional?

Adele was due to start a Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace this weekend and cancelled the entire thing less than 24 hours ahead of time, saying they weren’t ready for a number of different reasons.

FIL had bought tickets to the opening night for himself and MIL as a 40th wedding anniversary present, they had pretty much just checked into their hotel when she announced it wasn’t going ahead, and the cost of that and their flights is now money down the drain. DH and I and BIL and SIL were planning on taking them away for a family weekend at Easter but have instead offered to pay for travel and accommodation when (if?) it gets rescheduled.

I get that covid is fucking a lot of things up for a lot of people, but surely they could have faced reality a bit sooner? Even one more day’s notice would have saved so many people taking flights and checking into hotel rooms that they could have rebooked or been refunded for.

YANBU. There has been quite a few articles about this hinting that we aren’t getting the full story. I wonder what has really gone on?

I read about poor ticket sales and unease about the staging, I think there’s more to it. I agree it’s far too short notice, and unfair on people who are travelling especially.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 22/01/2022 15:55

@Hollyhead

YANBU if she’s really that talented she could just do a pared back version - even just her and a few musicians.
Eric Clapton's Unplugged album was hugely successful. He was even forgiven for doing an acoustic version of Layla

Reading reports in the news that she’s now telling fans to go to the merchandise store to buy her overpriced branded tat pick up their free gift bag Hmm

insancerre · 22/01/2022 16:19

@DaggerIsle
Oh you won’t be disappointed with the cure
Once he gets going Robert Smith has to be dragged off the stage

GellerYeller · 22/01/2022 16:21

Not defending the handling of this at all- apparently she has told fans by DM it's not just a shop, there's a memorabilia display. No comfort to them I'm sure. Worth noting that most venues take a cut of merch proceeds. It's a big issue for small bands apparently as live shows and merch is the bulk of their income not streaming or physical sales.

DaggerIsle · 22/01/2022 16:22

@insancerre I can't wait. I don't go to many gigs and the ones I do always end up awesome.
Can't go wrong with The Cure.

jamandmarmaladethesecondcoming · 22/01/2022 16:24

has she gone bankrupt maybe?

DrSbaitso · 22/01/2022 16:29

@jamandmarmaladethesecondcoming

has she gone bankrupt maybe?
I doubt it, but if so, wouldn't she need the money more than ever?
Hertsgirl10 · 22/01/2022 16:37

Her video performance with the tears was better than any performance Iv seen of hers. Even that was unprofessional.

Blackbird2020 · 22/01/2022 16:46

Is her PR pushing her to make these DMs and FaceTime calls? I’m guessing it pushes the authenticity of the ‘crisis’, but surely they must know it’s a risky strategy that could backfire (A ‘rich beyond your dreams’ celeb crying, against the backdrop of ‘hard working single mum who saved every penny and took all her annual leave to get to Vegas’ story. Not a good look.)

Surely just put your money where your mouth is and work out some kind of do-able compensation scheme that would have some real benefit to every person who had their ticket cancelled.

NameChangesforNoman · 22/01/2022 16:51

Her PR would absolutely not push her to do that. It was professional suicide and felt like a real snap decision.

Blackbird2020 · 22/01/2022 16:53

A free gift bag and a drinks coupon as compensation, when this lady has a net worth of at least $220 million…. absolutely disgusting.

She could put her hand in her own pocket and it still wouldn’t make a difference to her life… she will earn millions $$$ over her lifetime from royalties….

Honeyroar · 22/01/2022 16:59

Seeing as she is so famous for her simple concerts with audience interactions I don’t understand why she couldn’t just sit and sing acoustic and do a small scale gig. She’d have gone down as a legend. But apparently that only happens when the bbc are there and the audience is full of slebs! Instead she’ll be remembered for letting her fans down big time.

And those nails remind me that I really need to get my dog’s claws clipped!!

Yes, the Adele 'Covid Concert', really small scale as she just couldn't let her fans down. It would have gone down in history probably!

Blackbird2020 · 22/01/2022 17:07

You can see it now… Insta full of the contents of the gift bag…. Adele biros and other gimmicky crap Grin

Tabitha005 · 22/01/2022 17:35

I think Adele's having her 'peak L.A. moment' and she's comes across as very insincere and bang out of order for cancelling at such short notice... it may not be entirely 'her' fault - lawyers, management etc - but I think she's definitely suffering from an excess of the Big I Am since she's been lording it up Stateside and thinks her fans will suck up any amount of disappointment she dishes out and still stick by her.

Darbs76 · 22/01/2022 17:38

I think it’s a risk you take in a pandemic

InFiveMins · 22/01/2022 18:09

I don't understand why she couldn't have just gone on stage and sang anyway? I have no idea of the logistics of getting a superstar like Adele to a venue safely but surely they had contingency plans in place in case something like this happened? She could have done a smaller show? I'm sure her fans would have been just as pleased to at least have heard her sing.

Personally I don't buy the COVID excuse - how convenient. I think the show wasn't ready and/or she couldn't be bothered.

Honeyroar · 22/01/2022 18:16

I had Adele as a passenger in first class when I was cabin crew. Her manager massively wiped her arse for her. She’s probably not the most capable/adaptable star I’ve met.

Teenagetrouble · 22/01/2022 18:17

There will be someone eventually who spills the tea on why this has happened - there will be too many people involved for there not to be a leak somewhere

PugInTheHouse · 22/01/2022 18:21

I totally understand that these sort of shows are very last minute quite often but I just don't buy it as an excuse with her. She is predominantly a singer who just stands and sings. If her band has covid then in 5 days times they'll be fine, they should be isolating in their hotel rooms separately to ensure they're OK ASAP. They should know their stuff so rehearsals shouldn't be an issue.

Chuechebache · 22/01/2022 18:21

I would not have rebooked for the show.Ticketholder can voice their (justified) anger in not buying a ticket.it is unacceptable and very unprofessional.that woman needs to be taken down a peg or so!

WiserMe · 22/01/2022 18:27

Seems to me she thrives on drama.
She's so miserable and so are her songs

DrSbaitso · 22/01/2022 18:30

Can you elaborate?
Honeyroar · 22/01/2022 18:37

She had a major sweary meltdown at me because I asked if she needed a landing card. Said someone had told her she fucking didn’t and now I was telling her she bleeding did and how was she fucking supposed to know!! (I’d only asked her politely like I had every other passenger). Her manager just took the form off me and said she’d sort it. She was meant to be a nervous flyer, so that might have added to it, but she certainly never made my list of favourite celebrities!!
