To think Adele’s been shockingly unprofessional?

Adele was due to start a Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace this weekend and cancelled the entire thing less than 24 hours ahead of time, saying they weren’t ready for a number of different reasons.

FIL had bought tickets to the opening night for himself and MIL as a 40th wedding anniversary present, they had pretty much just checked into their hotel when she announced it wasn’t going ahead, and the cost of that and their flights is now money down the drain. DH and I and BIL and SIL were planning on taking them away for a family weekend at Easter but have instead offered to pay for travel and accommodation when (if?) it gets rescheduled.

I get that covid is fucking a lot of things up for a lot of people, but surely they could have faced reality a bit sooner? Even one more day’s notice would have saved so many people taking flights and checking into hotel rooms that they could have rebooked or been refunded for.

@100problems you've missed the point, which is that artists of the calibre of Adele don't do it because they need to pay the mortgage! Of course she doesn't "need to work".

She has been performing, composing her own music, doing studio and live work since her teens. Over her lifetime so far it can become a tread mill and a trap that someone like her will find hard to escape from. So she's committed to shows because she's probably been in denial about how hard she finds it. The photos of her lately are very telling. She looks ill.

@LuckyAmy1986

Do people really still think she's down to earth? I think she lost that years ago! I don't get the appeal at all. She's a talented singer, but so, so overrated IMO. There are so many better singers out there!
People think she's down to earth purely because of the way she speaks. Sort of a less classy version of Gemma Collins.
MrsTrumpton · 22/01/2022 12:00

Don't want to link to the Daily Fail, but they're running footage of her crying as she FaceTimes fans to apologise – but tells them to visit her branded gift shop at Caesar's. She also offers a free drink token but has to retract because they're underage. 😳😳😳😳

WorstXmasEver · 22/01/2022 12:02

She should cover people's expenses.

MrsTrumpton · 22/01/2022 12:04

To be fair, re: my last post, they are also giving out gift bags to fans.

500k a show… unless she is on her deathbed or just had an immediate family member die then she gets herself out there. Sorry but this mental health excuse generally is wearing thin. It’s not just the fee, it’s the amount people have spent traveling to see her. Have a bit of respect for them.

UnsolicitedDickPic · 22/01/2022 12:05

I was meant to see Adele at a concert quite a few years ago now & she cancelled just as we were checking in to the hotel to see her that night. Think she has form for cancelling at short notice.

DanbyDale · 22/01/2022 12:05

I could have called on a few local headteachers to help her.

They and their staff have rearranged and reorganised extensively and without any budget, to keep schools open.

Pat123dev · 22/01/2022 12:08

Yanbu. Unless she had covid herself, I can't see how they couldn't bodge something together. It would still have been good.

£500,000 a night she was set to make!!!

RevolvingPivot · 22/01/2022 12:09

What's Avril got to do with this 😂😂

HelloFrostyMorning · 22/01/2022 12:10

I thought Adele had been told to cancel the show because of covid. Confused

It wasn't her choice surely?

100problems · 22/01/2022 12:10

Thank you @daisychain01 I got the point perfectly. But thanks anyway.

Carrienova · 22/01/2022 12:10

Half a million pounds per show just for Adele, let alone the rest of the profit being made, could probably have covered a few back-up staff/reserves/understudies....

DrSbaitso · 22/01/2022 12:11

@RevolvingPivot

What's Avril got to do with this 😂😂
She's another massively overrated singer?
100problems · 22/01/2022 12:11

@HelloFrostyMorning she's cancelled the entire run.

HelloFrostyMorning · 22/01/2022 12:11

Why it was cancelled seems irrelevant though, as people are proper fucked off.

HelloFrostyMorning · 22/01/2022 12:11
@HelloFrostyMorning she's cancelled the entire run.
OMG HAS she? Shock

HelloFrostyMorning · 22/01/2022 12:12

Awww, I proper love Avril Lavigne. Sad

Carrienova · 22/01/2022 12:12

Also I would have been extremely cross if I had a ticket to see her self-indulgent me-me-me tears and sobbing.
A serious apology without the poor-me crying would have been better received.
And get rid of the claws.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 22/01/2022 12:12
@daimbarsatemydogsbone clue - of course there is insurance. It’s one of the highest costs for live shows.
Not to cover the outgoings of fans there isn’t

HobgoblinGold · 22/01/2022 12:13

To cancel so late would suggest there's more going on behind the scenes that has been made public.

Dontgetyerknicksinatwist · 22/01/2022 12:17

@Moneypennysfreedomfund

She’s a drama queen and copious articles about her detract from

Pinocchio PM
Cost of living
Turds in waterways
The Dover car park for lorries
And a lot more

It is unprofessional, other artists have had bigger reasons to cancel shows but performed anyway ( Tori Amos played straight after a miscarriage - now that IS a reason to cancel) . I get the sense Adele is an attention seeking drama queen who has cost many of her most ardent fans serious money.

You’re right of course. And the fact that this has garnered more attention than those other stories shows just how careless and fickle society has become. People will start to care more but only when the reality sets in and these things start to affect them personally. We all need to wake up to what’s going on. People are going to die and families made homeless because of the cost of living crisis. Working people are now having to resort to going to food banks to feed their children. Old people will die off in higher numbers because many of them won’t be able too keep warm in their homes or have enough food to eat. Meanwhile the government is doing feck all. This is a national crisis and all I’ve heard so far is talk of random £500 payments to help people. Sorry but that’s not good enough and doesn’t solve the root cause. Sorry I know it’s off topic but I don’t think we should be focusing on multi millionaire celebs right now.
Thirtytimesround · 22/01/2022 12:18

Have you seen the Katy Perry documentary? Her marriage was crumbling and she got off a painful phone call with her then husband and she was sobbing as she stepped on the platform that would take her up onto the stage and she stiod tall and went up and sang her heart out to the people who’d come to see her.

Cancelling with 24 hrs notice for any reason other than singer has a medical problem? Not cool.
