To think Adele’s been shockingly unprofessional?

Adele was due to start a Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace this weekend and cancelled the entire thing less than 24 hours ahead of time, saying they weren’t ready for a number of different reasons.

FIL had bought tickets to the opening night for himself and MIL as a 40th wedding anniversary present, they had pretty much just checked into their hotel when she announced it wasn’t going ahead, and the cost of that and their flights is now money down the drain. DH and I and BIL and SIL were planning on taking them away for a family weekend at Easter but have instead offered to pay for travel and accommodation when (if?) it gets rescheduled.

I get that covid is fucking a lot of things up for a lot of people, but surely they could have faced reality a bit sooner? Even one more day’s notice would have saved so many people taking flights and checking into hotel rooms that they could have rebooked or been refunded for.

Overhyped and Diva

Her best performance? Singing acoustic at The Brits. I’d she was really arsed about her fans, she would get onstage with a guitarist, and sing a few songs - it’s does not have to be a massive gig .. something is better than nothing

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/01/2022 11:10

@Viviennemary

Can't see the appeal of Adele. But yes she is a spoilt selfish Diva. Not a thought given to her fans. All about the most important person in her little world. Herself.
This. Her songs are so bloody depressing as well!

I really do feel for her. We have all had those times when work is far too much to handle.

I had one of those days yesterday when I could quite easily have walked away but as I'm not a spoilt diva I got on with it rather than let my colleagues and customers down which is what most people do.

abigailsnan · 22/01/2022 11:10

Ops I feel for your ILs and think Adele is out of order cancelling with just 24hrs notice.
Hopefully your ILs can catch another show while in LV there are so many good ones,or even getting the local bus down to Freemont Street and watch the street groups & singers who are a joy to listen to when ever we go to LV this Street is the first place we go to visit for a good night.

justasking111 · 22/01/2022 11:13

Streisand went through panic attacks didn't do concerts for many years her albums still sold she didn't let down her fans.

Adele needs to step back lose the management who see her as a cash cow and just make music

ttcstinks · 22/01/2022 11:13

@crochetmonkey74

I totally agree with you OP . She could have one an unplugged style concert , I think its shockingly bad form. As a teacher, I worry what these last minute cancellations and dropping out of things are going to do to young people's understanding of responsibility and doing things that are sometimes hard so we dont let others down.
Completely agree
justasking111 · 22/01/2022 11:15

OH when I saw the Vegas two year gig I knew she'd flake out, she's done this at a party I read about

sunstripe · 22/01/2022 11:15

If she’d gone out on stage and performed simple shows and explained why I’m pretty sure most fans would have been happy with this - especially after paying a fortune for flights, hotels and taking time off work. People would have had a lot more respect for her - the show must go on and all.

The video and letting people know as such short notice was incredibly unprofessional.

I’d understand if she had covid and it sounds like it’s being used as an excuse. ‘…Things didn’t arrive’ doesn’t really cut it as a reason.

Seeingadistance · 22/01/2022 11:17

@HoneyFlowers

She sounds genuine in the video, it must be a huge task to pull off a show. Her fingernails freak me out a little though.
The nails are repulsive, and I don’t think she sounds at all genuine.
SofiaSoFar · 22/01/2022 11:18

in the end - everyone just wants to hear Adele sing.

Speak for yourself! 😂

crochetmonkey74 · 22/01/2022 11:19

I also think Caesars is such a massive machine it could easily have been " its unplugged so heres a merch voucher or a spending voucher for caesars" to say sorry.

Thewomeninthemirror · 22/01/2022 11:22

My friend and I had tickets for Wembley back in 2017. We had traveled miles to get there, I’d organised child care, hotel stays etc. it was the day she announced it. My friend was devastated, he was in tears. We still went, did some shopping and had dinner but the atmosphere around the stadium was terrible.

Juniper68 · 22/01/2022 11:22

Her body language says it all

crochetmonkey74 · 22/01/2022 11:23

@Juniper68

Her body language says it all
What do you mean? I'm interested in body language
MarshmallowFondant · 22/01/2022 11:23

@StCharlotte

As suggested by pp surely she could have done an "unplugged" show which would be amazing. I can't believe she couldn't find some a spare sound engineer and someone to guide a spotlight in Vegas...
Not just Vegas. Anywhere in the world. Adele isn't exactly so short of cash she can't fly in her own personal sound engineer from Hong Kong, Tokyo, Rio, Cape Town.

Excuses, excuses.

Honeyroar · 22/01/2022 11:24

What a mess! Poor people that have spent so much trying to see her. She ought to refund tickets and travel for everyone she’s messed about.

QueenOfTheHighCs · 22/01/2022 11:24

As a vocal professional, my money is on vocal damage. Again. You can laser off the nodules on the vocal cords but if you don't change your technique to a healthier one, they're just going to come back again. She'll need at least 3 months to have the surgery and recover fully.

UserError012345 · 22/01/2022 11:25

I don't feel for her.

Absolutely unprofessional. Could they have not drafted more people in ?

Malibuismysecrethome · 22/01/2022 11:25

Personally I would pay not to hear her sing.

I don’t think she is in the same league professionally or vocally as Celine Dion, Elton John, Shirley Bassey or Streisand. Her album sales are exceptional and maybe she should just do her music and albums.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 22/01/2022 11:26

She could have got on stage and done something less extravagant than the usual Vegas shows, there's definitely more to it. There's been a screw up somewhere. If it was a band cancelling due to illness, fair enough but Adele just needs Adele Confused

LakieLady · 22/01/2022 11:26

@ilovemybeachhut

[Hides behind seatee and whispers, I thinmk Adele and Ed Sheeran are okay but over rated] Shock
Me too! Wink

I wouldn't bother going further than my local high street to see either of them.

Sloth66 · 22/01/2022 11:29

Just been reading there were Apparently a lot of unsold tickets online, bought at inflated prices for profit. Also that she has stated she gets panicky performing live. This was a hell of a commitment to take on for months on end.

Frazzled50yrold · 22/01/2022 11:29

I'm not a fan and would be totally drained listening to even one song let alone a concert of Adele.
It's usually all about money in the same way as when Garth Brookes cancelled his Dublin shows because he couldn't get enough nights therefore not enough profit. These people are businesses not your friends regardless of how hard they cry in their emotional footage.

Omicrone · 22/01/2022 11:30

I do find Adele a strange phenomenon. Yes, she has a good voice, yes some of her songs are quite catchy, yes she is slightly different to other celebs with her 'salt of the earth' persona. But I still don't get how it warrants the absolute hysteria around her.

Her model of releasing an album then disappearing completely for years, then coming back into a huge media frenzy clearly works for her, but I don't fully understand the hype.

I thought 'Go Easy on Me' was totally 'meh' as well. Her newer single is slightly better.

See also Ed Sheeran, some catchy songs, seems like a lovely bloke, but most of the music just blurs into one. And yet he absolutely dominates the charts when he releases new music.

anniegun · 22/01/2022 11:30

Nevada has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the US. Covid cancellations are not going to be uncommon

KatherineJaneway · 22/01/2022 11:32

I would like to know why she left it so late. I suspect there were armies of lawyers involved considering the sums of money around this but it makes her look very bad.
