wont pay for damage to my jeans

I actually needed new pants, so I bought 3 new pairs of mostly otton jeans that were the same on sale from a warehouse getting rid of old stock. The jeans are all one shade of blue so any marks would be obvious. I could've got cheaper jeans but I thought I'd treat myself. They no longer have the jeans in my size but are selling them or something similar on the original website for a similar amount.

Dog of a relative unexpectedly jumped up on me and scratched as soon as I got in the door. I didn't expect them to because last times I've come in they've not done that and I've gone in loads of times. I've had these jeans 2 days. The jeans haven't been torn but are damaged. You'd have to look at them to see the scratches. other marks they've made I'm not sure if it'd come out in the wash. This has effected the aesthetic of the jeans and they don't feel as special. They haven't had holes ripped in them so relative is refusing to replace them

@Gwenhwyfar haha pisser. Attacked indeed 😂

KittyKattyFosterMummy · 21/01/2022 15:58

It's OK for animals to attack in their own homes then?

Well there's an over-reaction, the dog didn't attack anyone, it jumped up! Massive, huge, ginormous difference! Grin

Gwenhwyfar · 21/01/2022 15:59

"Highly doubtful as the dog didn't tear her jeans."

Scratched and left a mark so how would it have been if she were bare legged? And why does anyone think it's OK for their dogs to do this?

And scratched. Didn't just jump. And the dog shouldn't be jumping on people who don't want to be jumped at all. Not the dog's fault, but he should be trained by his owner.
AllThingsServeTheBeam · 21/01/2022 16:00

@Gwenhwyfar

So if you'd been wearing a skirt, the dog would have torn your actual leg? Dogs shouldn't be jumping on people and scratching them!
Torn it all the way to an artery! She's lucky to be alive I tell you!!
WiddlinDiddlin · 21/01/2022 16:02

Is there any actual damage?
Was mother in law expecting you, did she let you in and fail to stop dog jumping or did you let yourself in and dog jumped unexpectedly?

I think trying to claim a full price pair of jeans when you actually have no idea if the jeans you bought at discount price ARE actually damaged is pretty silly.

JohnKettleyIsAWeatherMan · 21/01/2022 16:02

Pretty simple. You're correct. Don't go round to houses with dogs if you're so dam precious!

Correct about what? That it's reasonable to expect people to wear old clothes around other people's dogs?!

Just wow.

Twolostsoulsswimminginafishbow · 21/01/2022 16:02

All this shit for less than twenty quid a pair. Bench are hardly designer even at full price.

ChonkyDonkey · 21/01/2022 16:03

@Fairylightsongs

I feel a bit bad for the op. The jeans were clearly special to her, she normally gets supermarket jeans and if she was in need of new ones, likely doesn’t buy clothes often or habe much disposable income, so she was delighted with her jeans, and felt she had a good brand for a change, and was proud to be wearing them.

Then the dog scratched them, and she’s upset because they were important to her.

Lots of us have been skint before, and it doesn’t matter if these were less than twenty quid, it was something special to her, and now they are marked.

The issue here is they were really important to her, so she’s upset they are damaged, hence the car analogy. For her, the jeans are a big deal.

Thank you Fairy, my thoughts exactly.

There have been so many sneery shitty replies on here.

ReadySteadyTwins · 21/01/2022 16:04

OP, you sound utterly ridiculous.

Utterly. Ridiculous.

SirSniffsAlot · 21/01/2022 16:05

Without wanting to stick the boot in - honest - it really is worth considering if the jean quality is worth replacing them. If quality is something you want from your jeans (no judgement: we all want different things from different clothes).

Sorry to be a downer, but in years of being jumped at by multiple dogs of varying sizes and breeds (rescue) I have never had a pair of jeans damaged. Muddied, occasionally entangled, skin bruised through the fabric but never jeans permanently damaged.

And I am wearing pretty cheap jeans Grin

(fingers crossed this means your jeans will wash up well)

mamaoffourdc · 21/01/2022 16:05

All this about £19 Jean - a massive TWIT TOOWOO in your face!

NettleTea · 21/01/2022 16:06

BUT ITS RUINED THE AESTHETICS!!!!!

seriously. even my ASD 21 year old couldnt be more precious than this

KittyKattyFosterMummy · 21/01/2022 16:07

You're right, it shouldn't be jumping up, but it's hardly "attacking" now is it?! And the scratch would have been accidental due to the dog having claws which could be sharp.

Just out of curiosity @HRMtheQuern, what breed of dog was it?

NettleTea · 21/01/2022 16:08

especially as it seems to be hurt feelies we are talking about. Not damage. a scratch, so potentially a slight lifting of a thread or two, or deviation from the colour, that you can only see if its pointed out to you, and is no more than likely to happen when going about your day to days after a week or so or a couple of washes - what if a button or zip rubs up against them in the machine during the spin cycle.

Jesus.

KurtWilde · 21/01/2022 16:08

@Spreadingtheword

Did you put the jeans on your house insurance OP? You might be able to claim.
Proper chuckled at this 😂

Well it would've probably scratched and left a mark in the exact same way...

I agree with this tbf, some of the comments laughing about them 'only' being £20 are pretty tone deaf
SirSniffsAlot · 21/01/2022 16:12

It's unfair but the primary trainers when it comes to dogs jumping are other people, not the owner.

Lots of dogs don't jump their owner but jump everyone else because they have learned that everyone (enough people) gives them attention when they do so.

Only when the owners stop focussing on training the dog to stop this specific behaviour - and instead start to get firm with guests/others in the street about how they greet the dog, does this tend to change.

None of which stops the owner keeping the dog on a lead and at a distance when guests turn up. Physical prevention can be as effective as training Smile.

Gwenhwyfar · 21/01/2022 16:13

"Well it would've probably scratched and left a mark in the exact same way..."

So it would have cut or bruised her? That's an attack then surely.

deathofastrawberry · 21/01/2022 16:13

🤣🤣🤣 thanks for the laugh, this sounds like a case you'd see on Judge Rinder. I can hear the theme song in my head.

IMO jeans look better with a bit of wear and tear. You could scratch and tear them up a bit more for the 'distressed' look. Especially as all 3 pairs are the same... might give you a bit of variety!

LegoNinjago · 21/01/2022 16:13

Somanysocks · 21/01/2022 16:14

@ExtraOnion

All the mad dog owners will be on soon, telling you that you should be grateful that the dog jumped up on you …
Yes I hate it when dogs ignore me

Dogs jumping on people is the fault of the people not the owner? What?
